It hasn't exactly been the best of weeks in the land of Chels. This QPR dust-up seems to be
lingering, and the fallout only now taking shape. As such, the FA have charged AVB over his
incendiary comments pertaining to the officials, and John Terry appears to be in the midst of
another wrangle with the authorities after the internet decided he was guilty of saying some shit
to Anton Ferdinand.
The Guardian for this gem:
Chelsea's David Luiz will carry on touching his team-mates 'for luck'
The not-so-invisible touch
But how does this fine piece of headline writing show up on NewsNow, you ask? Even better is the
answer.
I figured out why the club haven't been taking these CPO protests seriously. They're too busy
bidding for young talent in 45 minute stretches. Yes, yes we are. More, after the jump.
Worth his weight in gold?
Well, this came out of left field. According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have succeeded in
securing the signature of MK Dons starlet Oluwaseyi Ojo.
Chelsea appear on the verge of snapping up Real Madrid's 15-year-old prospect José Ángel Pozo.
Color me surprised. More after the jump:
London calling
So it would seem that our quest to sign every young prospect in the world continues. After a
summer of snapping up bright talent, AVB and company appear to have the engine churning once more-
with their eyes directed in the way of Madrid and one of their starlets.
Hey, it's Michael Ballack. Long time no see.
Welcome back
Michael Ballack was highly admired around these parts during his time at Chelsea. We, like Carlo
Ancelotti, felt he deserved a short-term extension with the club. I, for instance, offered the
following after learning of the announcement of his departure in early June 2010.
Ignore Rudy and the Barca v. Madrid love-in. Check out that little nugget in the bottom left
corner of the cover. That's what we need to be concerned with.
Juan on Juan
While today's front of Marca focused on this small matter of a Spanish Super Cup,
rightfully so, there was some information on a potential bid from Chelsea for Valencia winger Juan
Mata.
If you take the press at their dubious word, then Ron Gourlay claims we're to add two additional
pieces to the mix in the next fortnight. Some are suggesting these signings are Courtois and Romeu-
while others are speculating there are in fact two other players on the horizon. Personally, I'm
thinking this is more likely the former rather than the latter.
"At skysports.com we have a reputation for the honesty and integrity of our reporting."
Apparently not.
Mad as hell
Terry Modric 'disrespectful'
That was the headline via Sky this morning after they had pried a quote or two on Luka Modric
from England's Brave John Terry while he was on the move in Asia.
There you have it folks, our first official signing of the summer window comes just as the lads
begin preseason preparations in Malaysia. More on Mr. Thibs after the jump:
What he said.
To be frank, and not Jim (ha) this one came out of left field. I don't believe many of us in
fandom had any inkling we were in the market for a keeper- let alone a young prospect that could
likely start for many major squads in most countries.
A quick summary of the latest headlines and more after the jump:
This way to London
So, the first bit of news many of you came across this morning was that Mr. Falcao has decided
to re-up his contract with Porto for an additional two years, thereby taking his buyout clause from
30 million to 45 million Euros.
Yeah, we're kinda psychic I guess.
I need a favor, broseph..
We did this. Or so I'm convinced.
True or not, it's rather vindicating to see the latest rumors put Capello in yet another bind
with regards to his captain issues, or lack thereof. It seems he's run out of second-string leaders
to masquerade as top dog, so he's decided to finally give it back to England's Brave ahead of next
weekend's vital fixture with Wales.
In keeping with the theme of introducing new 'segments' to the blog, I present to you the 'Rumor
Roundup', wherein we'll try to tackle the nonsensical banter that floats across the wire as often
as we can. This week, we look at comments given to Sports Illustrated by FIFA Agent Carrie Baird,
regarding all things Chelsea.
Admittedly, I'm not over this one yet. The wound continues to smart the day after the wreckage,
and I'm left with a sense of grief and despair. Grief over the notion that we've now lost twice to
those Northerners, and despair over how porous of a performance we displayed given our newfound
reinforcements and 'momentum'.
