US defender Oguchi Onyewu has joined AC Milan on a three-year contract. A big deal, since no
American has touched Serie A ground in 13 years - plus it's not everyday ay player joins AC Milan.
The last one to play in Italy was Alexi Lalas, who played for Padova from 94-96.
Milan acquired Onyewu from Standard Liege in Belgium.

After a summer of speculation about where he may wind up, Oguchi Onyewu has signed with one of
the biggest clubs in Europe.
Onyewu has signed with AC Milan, joining the Italian giants on a free transfer. Milan announced
the signing on its club website.
A standout for Standard Liege over the past five seasons, Onyewu left the Belgian club after

After much speculation and interest from over a dozen clubs, US and Standard Liege defender Oguchi
Onyewu has just signed a 3-year deal to join AC Milan. He will be the first American to play in
Serie A since Alexis Lalas played for Padova from 1994-1996.
Gooch's move to Milan makes much sense when one considers that the Rossaneri's ageing back line was
overdue for renewal, especially given the retirement of longtime great Paolo Maldini.

American midfielder Danny Szetela and his Brescia teammates have a chance to earn promotion to
Serie A if they can get past Livorno in a home and away playoff.
The first leg will be played tomorrow on June 14 in Brescia with the return leg on June 20 in
Livorno. In the Italian playoff scheme, away goals do not apply so if tied on aggregate goals, the
higher seeded team (Livorno) is be promoted.
