Last season, Scott Parker was depicted as a Churchillian figure, taking West Ham United's half time team talks and single-handedly leading the quest to keep the Hammers in the Premier League.
Of course it wasn't all that cut and dry, but in the end Parker toiled and harried to no avail as West Ham were relegated on the penultimate weekend of the campaign, relinquishing a 2-0 lead to Wigan and suffering defeat at the DW Stadium.

It meant so much to everyone. Fulham fans before the game seemed nervous. I don't know what the Rangers fans were thinking but they were loud and excitable. This was them back in the big time. "We hate it when our friends become successful" sang Morrissey. "And if they're Fulham, that makes it even worse.

After a largely inactive summer, a late spending spree sanctioned by new owner Tony Fernandes has done wonders for Queens Park Rangers' squad by giving Neil Warnock a much deeper and talented pool of players to work with.

This new-found quality in the team has turned QPR from a likely relegation candidate to a side that can perhaps push into the mid-table region and cause a few upsets along the way.

After reading what I classed as quite hostile comments from Oliver Holt regarding Stevie Taylor's antics trying to distract Paddy Kenny the thought crossed my mind, why is NUFC always a target for the media, and football fans in general? Are we deserving of the abuse we get? Is the problem created by the Toon [.

According to Jim White, Sky Sports News presenter, the talk of last night's game against QPR was all about Joey Barton. Barton, who had been handed the captain's armband would turn out to be the least of Newcastle's worries as a total of six players made their debuts for QPR.

The London club put Newcastle on the back foot right from kick-off as Taraabt and Wright-Phillips were running the show.
