CARSON, Calif. -- Cameroonian midfielder Franck Songo'o stole the show for the Portland Timbers
as the trialist set up a pair of goals to help lead the Timbers to a 4-1 win against the Los
Angeles Galaxy on Tuesday in the first MLS pre-season match for both teams.
Manchester City are weighing up a sensational £60 million move for unsettled Manchester United
striker Wayne Rooney in a deal which will shock British football. Rooney is at the centre of a
bitter row with United boss Sir Alex Ferguson after the Scotsman axed him from the team to face
Blackburn Rovers at the end [.
The 25 best goals of the year you won't see on Match of the Day video
special!
This year has been a cracking one for special goals from Wayne Rooney's spectacular overhead
kick against Manchester City in February, to Robin van Persie's stunner against Everton just a few
weeks ago.
Kenny Dalglish has hailed the Liverpool fans that made the trip to Wigan for the support they
showed controversial striker Luis Suarez in his side's 0-0 draw on Wednesday night.
Liverpool had released two club statements since the FA announced Suarez's eight-game ban for
"misconduct" towards Patrice Evra, and the players warmed up in 'Suarez 7' t-shirts as a show of
support.

Wigan Athletic Liverpool - Premier League 21st December 2011
Ali Al-Habsi put in yet another man-of-the-match performance for Wigan as the Latics built on
their draw with Chelsea and win against West Brom by picking up a priceless point against Liverpool
at the DW Stadium.

Not a bad way to start the morning: Almeria target man Henok Goitom's insane overhead-kick
against Sabadell in the Spanish second tier on Sunday evening, a goal which was outstanding for two
reasons.
Firstly for the technique, agility, spacial awareness and immaculate execution on show and
secondly (and Spanish football fans will back me up on this one) for the fact that Goitom usually
doesn't display any of these traits and is generally completely useless in front of goal.
The holiday season is upon us, and while some already know what they're receiving or are giving
someone else, there are many who are still drawing a blank.
For many a Manchester United fan, the ideal gift outside of getting to meet their United
favorites or having a chance to step out onto the pitch at Old Trafford would be primo match
tickets.

In which Gualberto Mojica plays a nifty one-two with Oriente Petrolero teammate Roberto Galindo
before teeing himself up and sending a fine overhead kick into the far corner to round off his
hat-trick during his side's 4-1 thrashing of Guabira in the Bolivian Apertura last night (skip to
the 54 second mark).

When the French Football Association announced its men's and women's Ballon d'Or finalists for
2011, the usual suspects were all accounted for — with one American in the mix.
The La Liga trio of Lionel Messi, Xavi and Cristiano Ronaldo are set to contend for the men's
award, while Marta, Homare Sawa and Abby Wambach will vie for the women's prize.

In which Roma striker Pablo Osvaldo smashes a frankly rather awesome back-stick overhead kick
past a rooted Julio Sergio in the Lecce goal, only to see it incorrectly ruled out for
offside...
Galling.
We imagine Mr Osvaldo may have been slightly narked by that one.
It was a disappointing night for Liverpool's youngsters in Portugal as they lost 5-1 to Sporting
Lisbon in the NextGen Series.
With qualification for the next stage of the competition already ensured, Rodolfo Borrell's side
set out with the aim of trying to be the first team to beat the Portugese outfit in the competition
so far.
Wayne Rooney put on an accomplished display in central midfield as Manchester United overcame
Otelul Galati 2-0 to go top of Group C and one step closer to qualification. An early goal by
Antonio Valencia followed by an own goal by Cristian Sarghi were decisive with the games main
talking point being Wayne Rooney neat [.
There's a certain retro feel about the Premiership this year, what with Norwich and QPR knocking
about on the shop floor. It's like the mid-nineties again; a more innocent time when Trevor
Sinclair, Darren Eadie, Les Ferdinand and Ruel Fox could justifiably call themselves king. (Well,
perhaps not the last one.
The New England Revolution were unable to finish the season with smiles on their faces as they
again conceded a late goal to draw Toronto FC 2-2 at BMO Field this afternoon. The Revs leave
behind the worst season in franchise history, setting team records for fewest wins and most goals
conceded.
Nick Soolsma got Toronto started early before the Revs took the lead with goals from Monsef
Zerka and Milton Caraglio.

Manchester City defender Micah Richards still has nightmares about Wayne Rooney's stupendous
overhead kick winner at Old Trafford last season and has vowed to ensure it never happens again. In

It's not often we feature action from the Blue Square Premier such is our remit here on Pies,
but when it's this good we'll gladly make an exception.
Submitted for your perusal is Jason Walker's sweet sweet goal for York City against Grimsby at
the weekend a pretty slick bout of passing (considering we're talking about the fifth tier here)
followed by a sublime, post-clipping overhead kick.

Mario had a funny old day on Saturday; telling the Villa fans to shut-up on several occasions,
raging at Yaya Toure for a slightly misplaced pass, being kicked in the kidneys while prone by said
Yaya Monster for said rage, tracking his man back into his own half!
Manchester United's failure in picking up three points this weekend isn't being wasted by their
rivals as Manchester City leapfrogged Sir Alex Ferguson's team in the top of the league table,
while Chelsea also closing in.
Roberto Mancini's team continues their winning run by beating Aston Villa 4-1 with Mario
Balotelli inspiring the victory, while the Blues demolished Everton 3-1 at Stamford Bridge closing
down their gap into just two points with Man United.

Starting with Samir Nasri, David Silva and Edin Dzeko on the bench and still winning 4-1 is
surely the epitome of "strength in depth", and at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, Manchester City's
diamond-encrusted squad showed why they are real title contenders.
Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli continued his run of form with another goal, and this time
it was a beautiful overhead kick against Aston Villa. The Italian scored his fourth goal in his
last four games for City. The goal, ...

Despite only flying in from international duty in Mexico just 26 hours earlier (though he didn't

Brazil on Wednesday evening opening his account with a truly beautiful, angled overhead kick.

This weekend saw a couple of blinding overhead kick scored across the continent, with Eren
Derdiyok and Julio Baptista both netting with rather sublime acrobatic efforts question is, which
one was better?
Exhibit A: Eren Derdiyok, BAYER LEVERKUSEN vs Wolfsburg
Scoop, rotate, fire.
A stunning late comeback from Malaga maintained their position at the top of the La Liga. The
Andalusian side were briefly knocked off the top by Valencia, but they defeated Getafe 3-2 to
reclaim pole position on Saturday.
Getafe led 2-1 in the 88th minute remaining courtesy of goals from Pedro Leon and substitute
Nicolas Fedor Miku, either side of Ruud van Nistelrooy's equaliser.

Not quite his finest work (more on that shortly), but Eran Zahavi certainly has an eye
for the spectacular marking his first league start for Palermo since joining from Hapoel Tel Aviv
over the summer with a pearler from the edge of the box with just 15 seconds on the clock.

Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Liverool Premier League 18 September 2011
On the evidence of this game, it is 'Arry Redknapp's Spurs side which are looking more like top
four contenders than Liverpool. Kenny Dalglish's side were totally outplayed on Sunday by a
Tottenham side inspired by impish schemer Luka Modric.
Easy win for Under 21s England Under 21s secured a comfortable start to their European Under-21
Championship qualifying campaign with a 6-0 win over Azerbaijan at Vicarage Road. There were three
standout goals from the young Three Lions. Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury, newly loaned out to
West Ham, scored a nice overhead kick; Jordan Henderson [.

Barcelona beat Napoli 5-0 to win their 36th (out of 46) Joan Gamper Trophy at the Camp Nou last
night, a match that saw Cesc Fabregas notch his first goal in blaugrana after starting up front in
Leo Messi's 'false 9′ position duly opening the scoring by nudging home Adriano's cross.

This video is doing the rounds at the minute after appearing on MARCA's website a couple of days
ago and, as yet, no-one has the foggiest just who is the dashing hero responsible for this
quick-thinking overhead kick from over in what we like to refer to as 'the FIFA 99 crossing
zone'.
When the rumour that Berbatov's departure from Old Trafford was imminent took flight,
we witnessed perhaps the biggest love-in that the striker has had since he joined the club. It was
so great that you wondered whether Berbatov had hauled us to the title single-handedly, and felt a
bit sorry for James Collins.
In front of another record setting crowd, Barcelona was stunned as Mexican side Chivas de
Guadalajara beat Barca 4-1.
It all started great for Barca when David Villa scored in the third minute. Gerard Pique sent a
long pass to an open Villa, who fired a shot past Chivas goalkeeper Luis Michel.
Overhead, Yossi. Not into head Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun discovered where an overhead kick
gets its name from in a friendly against Hong Kong outfit Kitchee. It turns out that to be any use
it has to go over your head. Blasting the ball straight at your own face does not have the same
effect.
By Chris Wright
Chelsea wrapped up a comfortable 4-0 friendly win over Hong Kong side Kitchee earlier today,
though Yossi Benayoun's frankly awesome TKO overhead kick botch is the only highlight you'll need
to see...
