Ottawa Seeks USL Addition in 2012

Ottawa, Ontario has announced that they will be added to the United Soccer Leagues First Division for the 2012 season as the Ottawa Fury. The deal with the USL is however conditional that they upgrade the proposed Frank Clair Stadium at Lansdowne Park to their standards.

USL owners threaten to start own league unless they get more say

Bill Beacon of the Canadian Press is reporting that owners of teams in the United Soccer Leagues First Division are prepared to start their own league next season unless they get more say in how USL-1 is managed and run, Montreal Impact president Joey Saputo said Tuesday.

The eight-club Team Owners Association, angry that Nike passed them over last week to sell the league to a corporate owner, NuRock Soccer Holdings, announced they would "explore other options.

I suppose the dream of a MLS club in Ottawa is over, for now at least. Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG), along with their partner Ottawa Fury owner and CEO John Pugh, announced today they have applied for a United Soccer Leagues First Division (USL-1) franchise.

The team would play and be based at a proposed new stadium at Lansdowne Park.

Canuck to help coach St Leo women

In an effort to expand St Leo University's recruiting into both Canada and internationally, the school has added Quebec native Annie Hamel. A graduate of the University of Maine, Hamel has also served as a graduate assistant at her Alma mater for a season after her 2004 graduation. USF women start preseason with a win

Last season the USF women struggled with producing goals, but were able to open their exhibition schedule with a 2-0 win over Jacksonville University. All the scoring occurred in the second half, starting with a goal in the 52nd minute from the Bulls' Canadian connection. Two University of South Florida underclass women are getting a shot at cracking the Canadian National Team lineup in a series of three friendly matches with the USA.
