This could be the year. Couldn't it?

Spurs musings from JimmyG2 23 October @ 06:23 AM EST
As self appointed President of the 'Enjoy it' campaign and the 'This could be the year' Fellowship I look on with a certain detachment at our new friends in the media who are climbing aboard the Tottenham bus. Hanson, Lawrenson, even Lee Dixon and of course ex players like Lineker and Ossie Ardiles who touchingly still refers to Spurs as 'we'. Click to continue reading...

From another era - interview with former Toon player!

Newcastle United Blog - NUFC news, blogs and debate. 05 October @ 04:10 PM EST
Back in the day, when all I had to worry about was hiding my hickies in a rollneck top, Jolly Ranchers were poisoning us with water melon boiled sweets and a young Take That were barely a twinkle in the eye, a young man was trying to make his way in the hard knock world [...] Click to continue reading...

Villa and Ardiles Decision: A Lesson for the US Bid

Major League Soccer Talk 24 September @ 09:55 AM EST

Both Ricky Villa and Ossie Ardiles spent time with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Villa featured prominently in the 1983 NASL side alongside among others, Brian Kidd, Nene Cubillias and Ray Hudson. Villa was such a hero among Argentine fans, I can still hear the cries of "Villa!" from the stands at Lockhart Stadium over a quarter century later.

Preston - Spurs Carling Cup Preview: Giovani’s Chance

All Action, No Plot 23 September @ 07:54 AM EST

Well we can call off the missing person's search. Head down to Deepdale tonight and you're likely to be treated to rare glimpses of Giovani and David Bentley, last seen being surreptitiously airbrushed into the background as 'Arry's favourites went through their pre-match warm-ups. There has been some clamour for Giovani's inclusion in recent weeks, and after the two woeful attempts by 'Arry to compensate for the absence of Modric, it would really warm the cockles tonight to see the Mexican put in a virtuoso performance on the left.

Newcastle United - News Roundup - 14 August 2009

Newcastle United Blog - NUFC news, blogs and debate. 14 August @ 02:00 AM EST
Poor old Chris Hughton deserves a fair bit of credit for quietly taking over a job he doesn't want and just getting on with it. Ashley's dumped him in it a few times now but Hughton simply remains unruffled, appearing to treat his frequent calls to stand-in as manager of one the most media-exposed teams in [. The clue is in the title - the first all-action book on Spurs is imminent, and all lilywhite fans are most warmly invited to pitch in.

A list of 20 fans' favourites is being compiled, and frankly, for a team as steeped in history as ours, there just ain't enough room for everyone. Some names effortlessly pick themselves – true Lane legends such as Blanchflower, Perryman, Mabbutt, Greaves and Bill Nick.

The most embarrassing moment in LFC history?

Liverpool Kop 09 April @ 05:11 PM EST
Quite possibly! Okay - perhaps it's not quite as bad as Ossie Ardiles and "Tottingham's" cringeworthy collaboration with Chas and Dave, but it's close.
Incredibly, this reached number 3 in the singles charts in 1988. I still remember bopping along to this in my brand-spanking new shell-suit, thinking it was the coolest song in the world. Click to continue reading...

The merry-go-round begins

Hasta El Gol Siempre 10 December @ 08:47 PM EST
The Apertura is over, then, and immediately the game of managerial musical chairs has started. Diego Simeone leaving Estudiantes was probably the least surprising development, whilst elsewhere Ossie Ardiles has walked out on Huracán. Gustavo Costas, recently relieved of his responsibilities at Racing, is set to take on a foreign posting. Click to continue reading...

An unsurprising loss

Hasta El Gol Siempre 08 September @ 07:24 PM EST
After the week Huracán have had - losing their unbeaten record last weekend in La Bombonera, followed by the loss of their manager on Tuesday - it wasn't too surprising that they couldn't lift themselves in front of a home crowd, even in front of their new manager Ossie Ardiles. Gimnasia took advantage of the situation [...] Click to continue reading...
