MLS Notes: Heck out at Red Bulls, SKC signs La Masia product and more

Soccer By Ives at related • 0 views

Not all the news coming out of Red Bull Arena these days involves major player signings, as the club's front office has reportedly made a significant change.

According to the New York Post, Chris Heck is out as Red Bulls president of business operations. The club has come under fire for its ticket pricing and attendance numbers, and the scheduling of mid-day, mid-week games during this summer also drew the ire of players, fans and pundits, something that fell under Heck's umbrella.

Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed that the club is looking to loan out Michael Essien following the midfielder's exclusion from the UEFA Super Cup squad but insists that Arsenal isn't a possible destination.

Speculation has been rife in the last 24 hours that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger favors a season-long loan for the 29-year old Ghana international but Di Matteo has made it clear that the Blues won't let him move to North London.

Chelsea continue to hemorrhage money after announcing a loss of £67.7million for the financial year ending June 30, 2011.

That is only a slight drop decrease from the loss of £70.9million in 2010, as Chelsea struggles to fall in line with UEFA's new financial fair play rules.

Since Roman Abramovich took over Chelsea, the blues have now lost a combined £620million.

Tottenham v Chelsea - The other midfield battle.

A Chelsea Fans Blog for Chelsea Fans at related • 0 views

With Luka Modric and Juan Mata taking most of the attention ahead of this one tomorrow night it's important that we do not forget the other midfield battle that will take place around them. Last week against Sunderland, Sandro and Scott Parker patrolled Spurs' midfield while Meireles, Frank Lampard and Oriol Romeu patrolled Chelsea's.

Are Chelsea now underdogs for Spurs on Thursday?

A Chelsea Fans Blog for Chelsea Fans at related • 0 views

It's a fact that I think will divide opinion amongst Chelsea fans, Spurs fans and even football neutrals right now. Chelsea had a hoodoo over Spurs for years and called their patch "three point lane" but you have to admit we can't call it that anymore can we.

Spurs (no matter what your bias is) have done great under Harry Redknapp considering that some of them didn't want him!

ROMEU: Does he fit into RDM's plans? Should he?

Two players have suffered at Chelsea since AVB was sacked for one reason or another and they are Oriol Romeu and Daniel Sturridge.

Both lost their places in the team Sturridge had to settle for a place on the bench under the stewardship of RDM.

However, for Oriol Romeu the situation appeared to be very different.

Tonight a jubilant and confident Chelsea travel to Anfield to take Liverpool in the Premier League with a chance to close the gap on Newcastle, Spurs and the Arsenal on the final day of the season as the race for the top four hots up!.

It's a long shot for Chelsea, but after some interesting results this weekend, the door has been left open again and we HAVE TO take the chance to get three important points.

QPR v CHELSEA (FA CUP) - Who plays?

Saturday afternoon is without question a huge game as we take on QPR in the FA Cup at Loftus Road. We all know the story that has made headlines from the previous game and the same story will remain the focus on Saturday.

It will be a time for cool heads, for composure and for assurance on the pitch for those players wearing that Chelsea shirt.

Let's be honest here, and I have said it before, the whole situation with the transfer saga of Gary Cahill has us all wondering what the hold up could be. I cannot remember Chelsea agreeing a fee with a club and then literally taking weeks to conclude the terms with the player. It's a sign that times are a changing at Chelsea, or have they already?

Chelsea 1-1 Fulham - No surprise really!

A Chelsea Fans Blog for Chelsea Fans at related • 0 views

I have said it's no surprise that we drew 1-1 in this one really based on our performances of late. We pick ourselves up for the big games like Newcastle, City and Spurs in the league but for some reason our performances suffer against the likes of Wigan and now Fulham!. In saying that I mean no disrespect to both those sides and to Fulham especially as I don't think Fulham fans thought they would come away with anything after being stuffed 5-0 at home to United.

MATA v MODRIC : Who will come out on top?

A Chelsea Fans Blog for Chelsea Fans at related • 0 views

It's common knowledge that Chelsea offered ridiculous money to try and sign Luka Modric back in the summer and Spurs stood firm and resisted our advances. You have to hold your hands up to them and say fair play to them really. Levy backed his manager, stood by him and look how well they are doing this season so far.

Wigan 1-1 Chelsea: Can you honestly believe we drew this?

A Chelsea Fans Blog for Chelsea Fans at related • 0 views

I simply cannot believe the fact that we have let two important points slip away for two reasons. First of all the calamitous error from Petr Cech to simply gift Wigan their equaliser and secondly the use of our substitutions during the game.

We came into this one on a high after three real important wins against Newcastle, Valencia and City and being honest should have really taken the game to Wigan and got this won early doors.

Well that was better wasn't it. The game was over at half time and it was much more like the Chelsea performance we should be seeing week in, week out. Whether or not other sides would be as generous as Wolves were is another thing, but for once Chelsea took full advantage.

AVB had said prior to the game that there would be no dramatic changes to the side from Leverkusen and he made just two changes.

The game was Peter Vermes' 100th in charge of KC. That ties him with Ron Newman for the second most games coached for Sporting KC.

It was also Vermes' 50th win in all competitions as a coach. He is the 3rd coach to reach that mark for KC.

Oriol Rosell became the 7th youngest player to ever appear in a game for Sporting KC at 20 years and 25 days.

Today in Spain, word came out that Barcelona B player, Oriol Rosell, has requested and received his release from his contract with the club. Pre season has been disappointing to say the least. The performance at Brighton at the weekend was a disaster and although it's far to early to be judging people, it was still an eye opener.

With Juan Mata and Oriol Romeu back in training today, things will really take shape this week as RDM prepares the side to take on Manchester City at Villa Park in the season's curtain raiser.

OLYMPICS = A pain in the arse!

I have to say that these Olympic games are going to be a real pain in the arse aren't they!. Not only in London will we have to put up with the traffic issues, but we will also have to be without the likes of Juan Mata, David Luiz, Daniel Sturridge, Ryan Bertrand and Oriol Romeu.

I understand that taking part in the Olympic games is massive for anyone but with some important games to begin with and the focus being on making a good, solid start to the new season, we could be without these players for a couple of games!
