The schedules are set for Madison United's 19th annual President's Cup indoor soccer tournament,
which will feature a record 88 teams playing Feb. 18 and 19 at Keva Sports Center in Middleton and
BreakAway Sports Center in Madison.
The tournament kicks off at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 18 at BreakAway, and the final games of the opening
day will kick off 12 hours later over at Keva.
Looks like Mr. Backe has some decisions to make come opening day in Dallas. With a surplus of
forwards and central midfielders, it'll be interesting to see what formation and personnel makeup
the starting XI. With so many options and possible configurations at his disposal, how will Backe
manage his depth?
Soler Swag for days
After what can only be described as a highly disappointing season in 2011, the Red Bulls, and
more importantly their front office, certainly had their work cut out for them. A roster filled
with so much talent but woefully underachieved had to be revamped somehow. And it was Erik
Soler's job to fit together the right pieces to assert New York as a top team once again.
Novara - Chievo 2:30pm - Fox Soccer A chance to see Michael Bradley in action, with 12th-place
Chievo traveling to bottom club Novara. In 20th-place, Novara have won two games this season, both
at home including a shock result against Inter Milan on September 20th. Chievo and Novara met on
the opening day of the season, drawing 2-2.
They say that lightning doesn't strike twice but both Equatorial Guinea and
Gabon scored late goals in their matches to make the last eight of the African Cup
of Nations.. Then again many experts said that Equatorial Guinea and Gabon shouldn't be hosting the
African Cup of Nations as neither country has any real football pedigree.
So Long Timmy! The long-running transfer saga involving New York Red Bulls central defender
Tim Ream appears to have finally come to an end this afternoon, with the BBC reporting that Bolton
Wanderers have secured a UK work permit. There had been considerable doubt about Ream's
qualifications for a visa, as he had only played in a total of two competitive fixtures for the US
Men's National Team.

Tyler Polak's impressive resume should help ease his transition to the pros. (Photo Credit: Andy

If Tyler Polak finds himself in the starting line-up on opening day at San Jose, the 19-year-old
should hardly be caught wide-eyed. The New England Revolution's second round draft pick has already
faced Major League Soccer competition in a meaningful match and trained with several professional
clubs.
Greg has been to the zoo and is mightily impressed with the larger beasts. You might say we are one
ourselves these days. Court cases loom but Wolves are up first. Either change the wallpaper or

Tottenham went level on points with second-placed Manchester United in the Premier League pile
last night, after goals from Aaron Lennon and Benoit Assou-Ekotto (a 30-yard stonker he doesn't
score often, but when he does... etc, etc) afforded Redknapp's rabble a comfortable 2-0 win over
Everton at the Lane a 14th victory from 20 league outings.
To say that Landycakes has been less than spectacular since returning to Everton on loan is a bit
harsh. That said, they have failed to win with him in the lineup. Actually, they have failed to win
a lot of times with their current lineup... just saying. Defender... let me repeat that, defender,
Assou-Ekotto and Lennon both hit their mark as Spurs win the opening day makeup, 2-0.

Centerback Gale Agbossoumonde and goalkeeper David Bingham have been forced to withdraw from
United States Under-23 national team camp with undisclosed injuries ahead of today's opening day of
training at the Home Depot Center, according to U.
Brad Evans was certainly a hit at Friday night's Q&A session at Official U.S. Soccer Bar Tim
Finnegan's Irish Pub, answering questions and sharing stories for more than an hour about rising
from a club player in Arizona to the U.S. National Team.
The local fans were particularly interested in his thoughts about player development in the state
and how more kids can reach the elite levels in the sport.
Injury-plagued Queens Park Rangers midfielder Kieran Dyer may not feature again this season after
breaking down during a reserve team comeback.
The 32-year-old limped off with a recurrence of the foot injury he suffered minutes into his QPR
debut against Bolton Wanderers on the opening day of the season.
Day five of our SPL Advent. Peace and goodwill to all me. It's a time for stout Hearts.
Somebody suggested that I could fill every day of this SPL Advent writing about Hearts.
And so I could.
The stories just keep coming.
On Thursday we got the news that the club had paid the players their November wages.

After an uneven 2010 season, Danny Califf was a player reborn in the Union's second season.
It's more than three months to opening day, but Dave and Mark are back to share all the RBNY
Offseason news. The SR boys look back at the end of the 2011 campaign, outline MLS' competition
changes for 2012, and review roster comings and goings. Then Red Bulls defender Stephen Keel joins
us to share the state of the club at the end of the season, as well as his off-season training
regimen.

Editor's note: At the end of the 2010 season, we posted a series of raves "Raves" about our
favorite Philadelphia players. They need not be the team's best players, but they're guys and gals
we like. Over the next two weeks, we continue the series again with some of the PSP writers and
contributors favorite players of 2011.
Now the reason I am asking this question is to do with balance in our side. As we all know until
the Blackburn game the other week, we hadn't keep a clean sheet in the league since the opening day
of the season against Stoke.
It looks like AVB has addressed the situation by taking Jose Bosingwa out of the side and replacing
him with Alex and moving Ivanovic to right back.

Portland's debut MLS season may have come to a halt but the misty-eyed memories and
goosebump-inducing flashbacks live on in Portland Timbers, We Adore You. A no-narration
documentary chronicling JELD-WEN Field's inaugural MLS match, the seven-minute film drips with both
tasteful camerawork and nostalgia for the recent past.

Battered, bloodied, and fairly rubbish. No matter. Chelsea still manage to hold on for a
much-needed win at Ewood Park, 1-0, over a Blackburn Rovers side that probably deserved a
point.
In the week that marks Sir Alex Ferguson's 25th year in charge of Manchester United, Alan Hansen
has remarkably claimed that our manager has him to thank for our success.
On the opening day of the 1995/1996 season, the former Liverpool man famously claimed that
"you'll never win anything with kids.
I am asking the question here because of our poor defensive displays of late. In my previous post
where I have asked you to give your opinions on what you believe is our strongest back four, and
this follows on from that.
We all know Roman wants to see attacking football and being honest AVB has delivered fantastic
football at Chelsea.
After watching what happened on Saturday, what happened against United and the fact that we haven't
kept a clean sheet in the Premier League since the opening day of the season against Swansea I
would love to hear what you the Chelsea fan reading this believes is our strongest back four.
For the majority of this season we can pretty much name our starting line up in the Premier League
and that's a defensive line of:
Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole.

When Manchester United signed 20-year-old goalkeeper David de Gea for £20m you could more or
less predict what was going to happen. His first mistake would be magnified, he'd get ripped apart
in the press and would be under the spotlight from then on.
So, the script had been written and de Gea complied, letting in two soft goals against City at
the Community Shield at Wembley.
Arsenal moved into the top half of the Premier League table for the first time since the
opening day of the season with a nervy 2-1 win over Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium.
Robin van Persie scored after just 29 seconds to give Arsenal the lead, but Sebastian
Larssonlevelled for the visitors just after the half-hour mark with a trademark free-kick.
Liverpool welcome Manchester United to Anfield in the first match back from the international
break, with the Reds looking to continue their string of recent successes against Alex Ferguson's
side. The hosts have won each of the last three meetings on Merseyside, and with a win tomorrow
they could climb within three points of the current leaders.
Nemanja Vidic hasn't played for Manchester United since the opening day of the season against
West Brom.
Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have all played their part in defence since, but
after playing 90 minutes for Serbia this week, Sir Alex Ferguson is wondering whether Vidic is
ready to start against Liverpool tomorrow.
Liverpool v MANCHESTER UNITED: Nemanja Vidic could feature for first time since opening
day
Sir Alex Ferguson faces a major selection dilemma over whether to recall skipper Nemanja Vidic
for Manchester United's trip to Liverpool.

The A-League is back - the Young Socceroos have played their World Cup - so how many of our young
guns are flying around the league on the opening day of the season? Or come to that the next group
of Young Socceroos?
Steven Lustica - hard to believe a Young Socceroo couldn't get TWO full games with the Gold Coast
over the last two seasons, walks into a four year deal with Hadjuk, has played a number of crucial
games in the centre mid position already.
Before Sunday night Juventus' start to the season hadn't been anything to write home about.
Laboured performances against Siena, Bologna and Catania had eroded some of the optimism born from
the opening day's 4-1 thrashing of Parma. The Vecchia Signora took five points from these games but
their displays were arduous: plenty of heart, but little fluidity or panache.
Michael Regan/Getty Images (Bleacher Report) Gary Cahill opened the season on a high by scoring in
Bolton Wanderers 4-0 defeat of Queens Park Rangers on opening day. His brilliant strike was one of
the best of the opening weekend as far as taking advantage of a scoring opportunity.
However, since that match the Trotters have gone down hill suffering three straight losses and
pushing them down the table.
Clive Brunskill/Getty Images (Bleacher Report) An official poll on Liverpool FC's website has
Stewart Downing as the fans top choice for best new signing so far. The former Aston Villa man has
been impressive in his opening four games for the Reds.
His play on the wings has shown just how much the Reds needed a genuine wide attacking in recent
seasons as they have seen their play be much more open than the narrow play attacking style seen in
the later days of Rafael Benitez.
Michael Steele/Getty Images(Bleacher Report) Chelsea head into the final day of the transfer window
with the intent of splashing some major cash. Their chase for several top internationals from
around continental Europe is heading down to the wire, and with so little time left, there is no
telling what will happen next.
While the football world has spent the opening period of the Barclays Premier League season
purring over the form of the Manchester Clubs, Chelsea have slipped firmly under the radar and have
almost been written off as title contenders.
It is true that both United and City have been the most impressive of the frontrunners so far
and played the best football, but a quick look at the league table shows Chelsea tucked nicely in
third place just three points behind the Manchester rivals.
