It's hard to say exactly how BT Sport's television coverage of the Premier League will fare next season, but one thing is for sure: Manchester United's Robin van Persie will be part of the promotional package. The Dutchman took to Facebook yesterday to say he was "having fun at the BT Sport shoot" and attached [.
One thing which has always intrigued me is how players actually responds to happenings related
to the club. Would it be the same as the way fans view it? Even among fans, it can be a varied
perception. Some will stand behind one viewpoint while others will be behind a different one.
News today that Arsenal have joined Manchester United and Chelsea in an attempt to sign Newcastle
midfielder Cheick Tiote, and that's according to talkSPORT but we have no idea how true this report
is. Cheick Tiote in action at Swansea last season One thing is clear, and that is that Cheick, who
turned [.
When I look at the league table I get a shudder down my spine.
Of course S*urs sitting higher than us in the league table contributes to that shudder massively,
but what really causes that horrible feeling is that we sit outside the Champions League
places.
Now don't get me wrong, the thought of that lot finishing above us is indeed truly horrific.
Wherever Arsenal finish in each competition this season, one thing that is almost certain is the
continuation of the attention paid to Robin Van Persie as supposedly the Gunners' main source of
success. Despite the Dutchman's colleagues performing equally as well in their own right, the solid
displays of other squad members are sometimes overlooked.
The names of two goalkeepers feature heavily this morning and while some papers are suggesting
that Spurs will make an improved bid for French international Hugo Lloris, others are claiming that
any approach for Jack Butland will be rebuffed.
Some papers were suggesting that Tottenham were going in for both Lloris and Butland in an
attempt to overhaul their ageing keeper list at the club.
There's a decent chance Cyprus will have more representatives in the CL quarters than England
after next week.
Absurd, no?
One thing is at least assured: Cyprus' lone Cinderella, APOEL, is through after beating Lyon via
penalties in the home end of their two-legged affair. Easily the upset of the round of 16 and
despite the damage it will do to France, one which has Michel Platini doing his little small
country jig while basking in pre-FIFA presidency pajama glory.
It's the 30th June and the day that contracts expire. After much speculation about whether or not
Salomon Kalou will be leaving the club, he has confirmed this morning on Twitter that his time has
come to an end.
I have written an article previously about Kalou and I think it's a fair judgement.
We here at Philly Soccer Page take a lot of pride in our news roundups. We're all Union addicts
anyway so, if we're spending our free time trying to find Philadelphia Union and other
soccer-related news from across the web, why not share the fruit of that labor with you, the
reader? Saves you a some time doing it yourself and we can always rely on you bringing our
attention to something we may have missed.
John Hackworth noted at Wednesday's press conference that the Union will play eight games
between Saturday's match in Houston and the New England game on July 29, a rate of a game about
every four days. Saying, "It's all about managing our guys wisely," Hackworth acknowledged, "It's
going to be a challenge.
In 2007 MLS adopted the DP rule. This was a rule that would change the league forever. Some teams
have used this rule wisely and flourished, others not so much. But one thing is for sure the gap
between the have's and have not's has grown, and all the stats point to it getting even bigger.
After much posturing, debate and media assumptions it seems David Beckham has made the decision not
to move to Paris-St. Germain for 2012. The club's sporting direct Leonardo has told the media that
the club's pursuit of the star is "finished".
Leonardo was the manager of AC Milan during Beckham's loan there in 2010.
Dalglish had a difficult time at Liverpool this season
It has been announced in the last hour that Kenny Dalglish has been sacked as Liverpool FC
manager after just 18 months in charge. After taking over from Roy Hodgson in January 2011,
Dalglish initially steadied the ship at Anfield towards the end of the 2010-11 season but has found
it much more difficult in the 2011-12 season in which his club finished eighth in the English
Premier League although he did take the club to two domestic cup finals.
Andy Dunn's Big Match Verdict: Controversial Suarez so key for King Kenny
Luis Suarez goes to ground too easily for the comfort of the purist. Fact. Luis Suarez raised
his middle finger towards Fulham supporters. Fact. Luis Suarez is still being investigated over
allegations of racist comments during a match against Manchester United.
Just when it looks like bad times are already flew passed Fernando Torres' Chelsea experience,
another tough times arrives again for the Spain international as he loses his goal scoring touch
again in the league right after returning from suspension.
Acknowledging at the potential return of another difficult run, Torres promised the Blues' fans
that he will keep on working hard in trying to get his performance back as he wants to repay the
supporters' faith in him.
Fernando Torres has assured Chelsea fans that he is working tirelessly to reward the support
they have continued to show for him despite his patchy form.
The Spaniard arrived at Stamford Bridge from bitter rivals Liverpool in a massive £50 million
deal in January and has since managed only five goals, as well as five assists, in 30 appearances
across all competitions.
There has been a significant influx of new players at Anfield over the last year, and competition
for places is as strong as ever. However, despite the competition, one thing stays the same, and
that is the increasingly welcome presence of Lucas Leiva in Liverpool's midfield.
The Brazilian is happier these days, and takes great confidence from the fact that people seem to
be finally acknowledging the qualities he brings to Liverpool:
It turns out that saying bad things about Chelsea upsets Chelsea fans which in turn leads to
upset Chelsea fans sharing just how upset they are with us. This is exactly as much fun as it
sounds. Which means we should probably put some distance between ourselves and the earlier offering
that may or may not have had something to do with Chelsea.
We all know that Abramovich and by association, Di Matteo, will have one eye on the Champions
League game against Barcelona. After all, it's the one thing that has eluded him at Chelsea. But
perhaps a little bit more surprising is that browsing the Chelsea forums you'll find a 50/50 split
of fans who think they should play the strongest possible team against us and those who think
players should be rested for this game with the Champions League semi and top four fight taking
priority.
It comes as no surprise that AVB is being linked with the Inter Milan post in the summer after
Claudio Ranieri was sacked this week. In fact, AVB is the bookies favourite or should I say "was"
until apparently Massimo Moratti spoke with Jose Mourinho for advice on AVB. It seems as though
Jose has advised Moratti that he isn't the right man for Inter.
Alot is always written and said about Frank Lampard during the course of a season, some good and
some bad and there is divided opinion at the moment on whether or not Lampard should be
playing week in, week out or if the manager should continue with his rotation
policy this season.
13 wins. 14 draws. Four points behind Milan and 33 left to gain this season. These numbers will be
constantly going through the head of all Juventini as they ponder the run home towards the
Scudetto. Will it be a first championship since Calciopoli struck, or will Juve sit by the wayside
as Milan lifts the trophy for the second successive season?
Catania will be tough "One thing's for sure: Tomorrow will be a very tough match because they're
going through a very good period and I think any team that comes from five positive results,
beating Inter and Napoli as well as drawing with Fiorentina and Lazio away and drawing with
Juventus at home is a [.
Their Words I think Maurice's form in the last three or four games has been really, really
encouraging and he has certainly been one of the better players in the team.... We've been very
pleased with him. The one thing Maurice does do is work extremely hard - he's a real grafter and a
workaholic. That's a massive part of his game.
2012/13 FC Porto Home Shirt - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
The 2011/12 season was a good one for Porto as they soared to victory in the Portuguese Liga but
their European performance was somewhat average. Outdone by APOEL and Zenit St. Petersburg in the
UEFA Champions League and lost to Sporting in the Round of 32 of the Europa League.
After looking like a deal has been done and dusted, then with reports of a delay,
it's now looking like Chelsea will sign Oscar by the end of the week.
For most of us who haven't seen Oscar play and have only watched clips on YouTube, last Friday we
all had the chance to see exactly what he is all about as Brazil played Team GB in a friendly and I
have to say I was more than impressed and watch below to see why.
It's that time again folks. Fire gamedays are always fun, but it's even better when we are
facing the Crew. With the game only a few hours away, the cauldron of hate should be bubbling for
many Fire fans. Not only are we playing a rivalry match, but we get to do it at home in front of
Section 8 and our wonderful fans.
It's Joe Kinnear day in the Sunday Sun today, as the former Newcastle manager has given many
different interviews to the local paper. Joe Kinnear - has given lots on interviews this week And
one thing that was obvious when Joe was on Tyneside, is that he always seemed to get on well with
Mike [...]
Do you know what time it is? Yes, you would be correct. It is that time once again. Fuzion does
the Power Rankings has once again arrived, and this week I have decided to go all out. I have
caught your attention now, haven't I? The intrigue and mystique around this "going all out" has
piqued your interest in an otherwise routine pattern of rankings and themed videos.
