Cyprus's most famous and supported club AC Omonia will look to take home advantage despite being
tagged as the underdogs. Omonia finished last season 3rd behind APOEL and Anorthosis Famagusta, the
former also participating in the UEFA Cup and the latter having the prestigious honour of being the
first Cypriot representative in the Champions League Group Stage.

NICOSIA (AFP) - Cash-rich Manchester City needed a brace from Brazilian striker Jo to overcome
Cypriot minnows Omonia Nicosia 2-1 in this UEFA Cup first round, first leg tie here on
Thursday.
Omonia surprisingly went ahead from Klodian Duro's direct free kick on the edge of the area after
49 minutes but Jo grabbed the headlines with two second-half goals to clinch victory.
For the clubs that weren't quite good enough to get into the Champions League, there is the UEFA
Cup, a consolation tournament of sorts that is analagous to the NIT Basketball tournament for
American college teams. But for clubs who are not among the elite of European football, the UEFA
Cup provides them with a chance to compete for silverware against other second tier clubs.
UEFA Cup favourites AC Milan have been drawn against FC Zurich in the First Round of the
competition. AC Milan finished a disappointing fifth last season and consequently missed out on any
involvement in this year's UEFA Champions League - a fact that fans will hope and expect is a
one-off occasion. Another match to look out for is Borussia Dortmund vs Udinese.
