Video: Lyon vs Marseille epic ends in 10 goals, no victory

Soccerblog 10 November @ 09:52 AM EST

Lyon 5 Marseille 5 at the Stade De Gerland. November 9, 2009. A nail biting epic with end to end action. This match will be talked about for years to come.

With L'OM cruising 4-2 it appeared as if the match was done but Lisandro Lopez who surely must be on Maradona's radar for his late goal scoring exploits brought them back on par in the 81st and 84th minute.

Lyon-Marseille 5:5, that’s what I call a derby!

Soccer Pie 09 November @ 05:29 AM EST

Derby games are always passionate affairs and they generate a lot of excitement but the match itself tens to disappoint the viewers, mostly because the managers are always too cautious and they prevent the players from giving their attacking best. The games between Lyon and Marseille have not been exception to this rule in the past and no wonder nobody expected too many goals when these sides met on Sunday, but we saw a remarkable match and no less than 10 goals, five on each side.

MARSEILLE vs. LYON

The Offside - Olympique Lyonnais 08 November @ 10:32 AM EST

November 8, 2009
Stade de Gerland, Lyon
3:00 EST (21:00CET, 20:00GMT)

Sunday evening it's back to work. But hopefully, it's not one of those usual Monday morning, sloping, sluggish, I need a liter of coffee to get through the day, back to works, because aside from the heart wrenching matches against Cesspool in the CL, Lyon have been afflicted with a general malaise probably since week eight in the PSG match, and need this victory to put some pep back in their step.

The Dreaded Wardrobe Malfunction. But French.

[Spotted on l'OM Offside] Fantastique blog fodder from Marseille's favorite bench-riding l'enfant terrible Hatem Ben Arfa, who had a slight wardrobe malfunction this weekend. Summoned to enter a losing cause, Hatem whipped off his tracksuit to unsuspectingly unveil a #11 Mamadou Niang kit adorning his back. Click to continue reading...

Jeu du Jour Week 5: Déjà vu, Grenoble

Some People are On The Pitch 17 September @ 12:03 PM EST
You know what they say about title-challenging teams: if you can play badly and still win, you've got what it takes to be the champions. The question is, does the reverse apply for relegation-threatened teams?
Grenoble are challenging the theory at the moment, that's for sure. Having played five and lost five so far this season, they've played well more often than not and yet still won nothing for their efforts. Click to continue reading...

Marseille lack the winning mentality

Soccer Pie 16 September @ 04:20 AM EST

Olympique Marseille have made a big progress during the last few years and they have again become one of the strongest teams in France but the last two Champions League campaigns are the proof Marseille are not yet ready for the big stage. Didier Deschamps' team completely outplayed Milan in their opening Champions League match but still somehow managed to lose the game and this shows the team are yet to prove they've got winning mentality.

France-Romania: Leave Streams and Comments Here (and Ribery and Lloris are doubtful)

France World Cup Team Blog 04 September @ 11:02 PM EST

So apparently Abou Diaby collided with Hugo Lloris in training, causing injury. Now Lloris is "something of a doubt" for the Romania game. This would leave l'OM's Steve Mandanda as the keeper for the day. What do you think?

And not only that, but Franck Ribéry is also doubtful, having not quite recovered from tendinitis.

Can Bordeaux win the CL?

Soccerblog 05 August @ 08:17 AM EST

Les Girondins stock is incredibly high because Laurent Blanc whose footballing IQ must make him the Albert Einstein of the sport has fashioned a team in which "eleven players think the same thing at the same time."

The French Ligue threw up so many surprises last season. Lyon's uninterrupted reign was finally ended and Guingamp won the Coupe De France.

For Arsenal to be effective, Nasri has to define the left

Soccerblog 04 May @ 10:45 PM EST

The big dance is tomorrow. Arsenal finds out whether they can pull off what will be one of their biggest wins. Against a Man Utd team that is great at closing out the deal. The CL final spot is on the line.

A 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1?

The latter formation did not work because Adebayor was very effectively neutralized by Ferdinand and Vidic and there was no striker tandem to offset that advantage.
