Ligue 1's much hyped Clasico did not produce much, except for a few H1N1 antibodies. Meanwhile, the
yet unnamed battle of the Olympienes (Olympico maybe?) only needed about 12 minutes to turn from a
hotly anticipated into a great game. Another 12 minutes on the other end, turned what was then
already a fantastic [.

Liverpool had to defeat Olympique Lyon away after losing 1-2 at home in the previous round. But
last night the English team only managed a 1-1 draw, and with 4 points it is now almost impossible
that Liverpool progresses to the next round: Livepool must win their remaining two matches and
Fiorentina must not win any of their remaining two matches (of which the last one is between
Liverpool and

Liverpool's chances of advancing to the UEFA Champions League knockout stage are on life support
after the team's 1-1 draw at Olympique Lyon earlier today. With the point from the draw, Lyon
become the first team in the group to advance. Likely to join them are Fiorentina, who sit second
on nine points.

The Reds of Liverpool showed great promise early in the season going on a 6 match winning streak
after dropping their first match to Tottenham. Then, over the last 4 matches...they've lost 3.Â
Liverpool was so UPthat I considered doing a long interest piece on the team, then
I got distracted with all the other mayhem and foolishness going on in the Premier League and now I
look up and they've lost 3 of 4 matches.

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard, midfielder Albert Riera and defenders Martin Kelly and Martin
Skrtel will all miss Wednesday's decisive Champions League match at Olympique Lyon, manager Rafa
Benitez said on Monday.
However, Benitez added that he was hoping Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani would recover from a
virus that kept him out of Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Fulham for the Group E match.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez's gamble to play an "80 percent" fit Fernando Torres paid off when
the Spaniard got the first goal in a 2-0 win over Manchester United in the Premier League on
Sunday.
Torres was still troubled by a groin injury that needed a pain-killing injection and Benitez,
seeking to silence the home fans' boos after four consecutive defeats in all competitions, only
decided to risk him a few hours before kick-off.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez said his side must win their remaining three group games if the
five-time European champions are to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

In one of the most shocking UEFA Champions League matchdays in recent memory, no fewer than four of
Soccer Source's Top 25 clubs were upset or had to settle for draws. The biggest, undoubtedly, was
No. 1 Barcelona's fall from grace in a stunning 2-1 home loss to No. 23 Rubin Kazan. Few soccer
fans had even heard of the Russian upstarts before the group stage draw, and the club appeared
destined to fade from memory just as quickly when it lost at Dynamo Kiev on the first matchday.

Anyone who may read this blog may know that I don't often have anything nice to say about Italian
teams. However, as strange as it may sound, now I do: in the Champions League I watched Fiorentina
play Liverpool last night, and was very impressed by the Italians, who in the first half of the
match in particular were far superior to the great English side.

This past weekend, I made it to another football stadium, this one Parc des Princes in Paris,
France. The match was perhaps the biggest of the weekend in Ligue Un as Paris St.-Germain hosted
Olympique Lyon.
I purchased the ticket a few months ago, as soon as the schedule was released, and had to pick
up the ticket from the French equivalent of a will call window.
