Josh Gatt is not a player many American soccer fans have seen play, but he is already considered
one of the best young Americans playing in Europe.
The speedy Michigan native has enjoyed an outstanding start to his professional career, going
from 18-year-old newcomer to 20-year-old transfer target, having already made one upward move from
Austrian club SCR Rheindorf Altach to Norwegian champions Molde.
In this week's Philly Soccer Show podcast, your co-hosts KYW's Greg Orlandini and PSP's Eli
Pearlman-Storch are joined by Philadelphia Union and USMNT U-23 midfielder Amobi Okugo and Delco
Daily Times journalist Chris Vito.
In part one, Okugo talks with Greg and Eli about the upheaval on the team after the departure of
forward Sebastien Le Toux and captain, goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon.
Kofi Sarkodie wants to succeed with the Dynamo this year and garner more playing time with the U.S.
Olympic team.
Philadelphia Union and Faryd Mondragon confirmed Monday that the veteran goalkeeper will leave
to sign with Colombian club Deportivo Cali.
Mondragon, 40, will return to his hometown to play for the team he made his professional debut
for more than 20 years ago.
"For family reasons, I have requested the club to allow me the opportunity to finish my career
where it started," Mondragon said in a statement released Monday afternoon by the Union.

With both Euro 2012 and the Olympics getting underway this summer, it is perhaps no surprise
that speculation has been rife over who will make it into Fabio Capello's final squad for Poland
and Ukraine, and who is in line for a call up for Stuart Pearce's Olympic Team GB squad and the
Euro 2012 betting odds for one youngster in particular have just dramatically
shortened.
Philadelphia Union
Sky Sports reports that Bolton manager Owen Coyle "claims no decision has been taken as yet
regarding a permanent deal" for Sebastien Le Toux.
Jonathan Tannenwald tweets, "A Union source says the team 'would not use Tim Ream as a
benchmark' in any negotiations over Le Toux regarding transfer fee.
U.S. Under-23 national team defender Gale Agbossoumonde has endured a rough road in his quest
for regular playing time since turning pro two years ago. With a recent stint at Eintracht
Frankfurt failing to deliver him playing time, Agbossoumonde looked poised for a move to Major
League Soccer.

Adu had some moments. The U.S. Men's National Team opened up 2012 with some very interesting talking
points. Certain call ups, certain omissions, scrimmages and of course the obvious questions that
accompany such things. First up would be the scrimmage between the full team and the Under
23's.
The senior squad paid a lesson to the U23 Olympic team with a 4-0 dismantling of their younger
brothers.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The New York Red Bulls turned some heads by trading a 2013 first-round pick
and allocation money to the Portland Timbers for veteran striker Kenny Cooper, a move intriguing
for a number of reasons, none more than the fact that New York already has a full stable of
first-team strikers in Thierry Henry, Luke Rodgers and Juan Agudelo.
When the MLS off-season springs to life, it does so with a vengeance.
We learned as much yesterday, in one of the busiest days of off-season newsiness I can remember.
David Beckham spurned the sultry advances of Paris Saint-Germaine, FC Dallas may have gotten the
striker they've needed for so long, and Colorado got a coach, just days before the MLS draft.
First, let us be among many, but hopefully not the last, to wish all our readers a Happy New Year.
We wish you blessings, good fortune and health in 2012. We begin a comprehensive look at the Men's

One-time U.S. youth international Preston Zimmerman doesn't have a single cap for the senior
U.S. national team, and while it wasn't likely that he'd be receiving his first call-up sometime
soon anyway based on his current level of play and club standing, he didn't do himself any favors
by using social media to voice his opinion about the current U.

The whole city of Manchester has been dark for over 24 hours now. Pitch black. Are they all dead.
They probably want to be as both United and City were bounced from the Champions League yesterday.
After getting a positive first taste of international soccer in the recent Olympic team camp in
Duisburg, Tyrone McCargo looks forward to continued involvement with his American teammates.
Legendary coach Manny Schellscheidt has been a pioneer in American soccer for decades, and on
Monday he retired from his long-time profession, stepping down as Seton Hall head coach after 24
years.
Schellscheidt spent nearly a quarter century in charge of the Pirates, but he had already
established an impressive coaching resume even before that.

Not to sound too surprised, but when the Union released their Protected List for Wednesday's
Expansion Draft, I joined in the shouts of delight that reverberated around the greater
Philadelphia area. The Union got this list exactly right. All of the veterans who helped lead this
team are safe.
The International Soccer League's modest but successful start in 1960 had made waves in the
American soccer community. Its twelve team league eleven of them imported from overseas, alongside
the New York Americans (who weren't really American at all) saw Brazil's Bangu beat Scotland's
Kilmarnock in a final of impressive quality, 25,440 fans attending the game at the Polo Grounds in
Harlem, New York City, broadcast on network television.
Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson says he wants to captain Team GB at the Olympic Games after
manager Stuart Pearce handed him the armband for the England Under-21s.
Henderson made a big money move from Sunderland to Liverpool during this summer and is so far yet
to produce his best form for his new club, but has received a welcome boost from Pearce, who will
also manage the British Olympic side.
Gareth Bale model's Team GB's new Olympic team kit for the 2012 Games in London, however I can't
see the Welsh FA or Harry Redknapp being happy about it as most Premier League managers fear burn

Summer in the Euro 2012 Championships in Poland and Ukraine.
Peter Nowak of the Philadelphia Union is one of the most well-respected coaches in Major League
Soccer.
Nowak has achieved at several levels, both as a player and now in coaching. The former US National
team assistant and Olympic team coach has his Union squad in form as they head into the Major
League Soccer playoffs.
Peter Nowak (right) led the U-23 team in 2008 and coached Jozy Altidore (left) at the Beijing

Up until and including the 1988 Seoul Games, the Olympic soccer tournament was an unrestricted
event, and thus the U.S. Olympic Soccer Team was essentially the U.S. National Team.
Remember when you read that Joe Corona was all set to play for Mexico and pass on the chance to
play for his actual country of birth, the United States?
Well, scratch that one. It seems the LA-born Corona is ready to follow in the footsteps of Jose
Torres and Edgar Castillo and bypass Mexico to play for the United States.
With US Soccer likely to be introducing a fulltime Olympic team coach soon, let's look at what the
team could look like as it begins to assemble in the months ahead.
We've started a new feature on our Blogs and, for now, we're calling it Rewind. This is where we
pull an old video from our archives that we think was really good, historic, just plain fun or all
of the above.
We'll start with this little gem from 2008 in which we feature current U.S. WNT regulars Amy
Rodriguez, Lauren Cheney and Tobin Heath when they were all just breaking into the team.
Soccer America interviewed U.S. national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann following their 1-0 defeat
away to Belgium in an international friendly.
On the match:
"I think it was an interesting game for both sides. You saw in the first 25 minutes we had good
passing movement and we were really involved in the game.
Freddy Adu's roller-coaster ride through Europe could end with a return to Major League
Soccer.
Chivas USA is lining up a move to sign Adu as a Designated Player, high-ranking MLS sources told

Adu is currently in the final year of his contract with Benfica, but could be allowed to move to
MLS on a free transfer as the Portuguese club is looking to unload his contract.
Singapore prides itself on being a slick, efficient country where everythng works on time and there
are no surprises. Maybe, but not in football.
Two or three years ago the National Stadium was scheduled to close while they built a glorious new
hub, Singapore as well as Malaysia and Thailand call everything a hub.
The Columbus Crew inducted U.S. National Team forward Brian McBride into their "Circle of Honor" at
a halftime ceremony during last Saturday's match against the San Jose Earthquakes.
McBride was the first pick in the inaugural Major League Soccer draft and played eight seasons, and
scoring 62 goals, for the yellow and black before moving to the English Premier League and playing
for Fulham in 2004.
With the Young Socceroos squad announcement seemingly delayed one wonders if the European based
