Greek king-pins Olympiakos have signed former calamity Manchester United keeper Roy Carroll
(34).
Carroll became famous after his in-famous over the line drag back following a handling error v
Tottenham in 2005 after a speculative Pedro Mendes shot from near the half-way line(see below) told
Olympiakos's official website:
"I am very happy to come to such a club, it is a great honour for me to play for best team in
Greece.
As kids, we were promised a fruitful future in which robots would create a world of magnificent
splendor...before rising up and killing us all. Turns out we're still getting there.
This is a tiny little robot which can multitask. The contribution to society we find on YouTube
is "humming" the Olympiakos theme song while drawing the Olympiakos logo.
There's some news you might be interested in. Might. More, after the jump:
Back to France
Dijon have confirmed that, after a protracted series of negotiations, Gael Kakuta will be
joining the club for the remainder of the campaign. Over the last ten days, Chelsea have been
engaged in a series of loan discussions with both Dijon and Olympiakos.
Ah Levadeiakos... one of those teams, along with Panionios, Volou, and Xanthi, that I just love
seeing AEK beat.
Couldnt watch the game because I had to work, but hey, we got the three points. Highlights from
what Ive heard/seen: Sialmas' goalara, good keeping by Konstantopoulos, and a well reffed match
(aside from the unnecessary to Sialmas).
The second half of this player review now, looking at our players who were decent, but not great
this season so far, for several reason. We also look at our younger players who made their debuts
this term.
Santos' 2nd most meaningful contribution this season (after his goal at Chelsea, of course.
The second game of the busy festive period is upon us, and a trip to Aston Villa and the odorous
Alex McLeish awaits. Villa fans have not warmed to their new manager and his style of football. He
has turned them into Birmingham of 2010-11 and so far they have managed four wins from sixteen
games scoring only 18 goals.
He won't mind seeing a fit Wilshere
Let's start with the obvious shall we. The Champions League draw takes precedent and rightly so.
The biggest tournament in club football today and the 2nd round draw took place without any
Manchester clubs in it. For our efforts of finishing top of our group, we were rewarded with a date
against AC Milan.
Arsene Wenger made a grave error by playing Andre Santos in the irrelevant Champions League game
against Olympiakos, and he now regrets it for both the player and the Arsenal squad, who could do
with him still fit and well. "I took a gamble because I did not want to be accused of just throwing

I had so much fun writing this.
We start today with the very bad news that our favorite Brazilian, Andre Santos, will be out for
at least 3 months due to required surgery on his right ankle. As you all know, he suffered this
injury during our CL dead-rubber against Olympiakos- an unfortunate injury that could have been
prevented.
The most prized left foot in the club now
When it rains, it pours. Especially when it is related to the Arsenal injury news. If you
haven't already heard, Andre Santos will need to undergo a surgery to repair his damaged ligament
in his right ankle. That will take him out of action right until middle of March.
In an eventful day of Premier League action, Arsenal, Liverpool, and reigning champions
Manchester United all bounced back from their respective setbacks to win big while Newcastle United
suffered a shocking loss away to lowly Norwich.
The Gunners, who returned home from Greece after a 3-1 thumping at the hands of Olympiakos in
Tuesday night's meaningless Champions League encounter, overcame Everton 1-0 at the Emirates.
There are a good few Arsenal transfer rumours around today and there seems to be a lot of defenders
being mentioned after Sebastien Squillaci's usual useless performance at Olympiakos and the ongoing
injury problems in the Arsenal back line. The £10m-rated Jan Vertonghen is many Arsenal's fans
idea of a versatile acquisition for the Gunners, [.
The Arsenal midfielder Yossi Benayoun was one of the few players to come out of the game against
Olympiakos with any credit, and he believes that if he makes full use of the chances that Arsene
Wenger gives him then he will win a regular starting spot in the end. The Israeli international is
just [..
After the dust settled from Wednesday's shocking UEFA Champions League group results, the final
16 teams have emerged to make it to the knockout stage.
The draw is set for Dec. 16, and teams from the same group or same league cannot meet in the
first knockout round. The teams in each pot are:
GROUP WINNERS - Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Benfica, Real Madrid, Chelsea,
Arsenal, APOEL Nicosia, Barcelona
RUNNERS-UP - Napoli, CSKA Moscow, FC Basel, Lyon, Bayer Leverkusen, Marseille,
Zenit-St.
- Next time, rake the cleats, Rooney my boy.
And as Matchday 6 of the Champions League separated the wheat from the chaff, the next eight
into the Europa League knockouts are:
Valencia
Olympiakos
Porto
Victoria
Plzen
Manchester United
Manchester City
Lyon FC Basel
Trabzonspor
Manchester United failed to beat Basel, so MUFC goes to Europa while the Swiss progress to the
knockouts.
A horror show from Arsenal goalkeepers Vito Mannone and Łukasz Fabiański condemned Arsenal to a
3-1 defeat to Olympiakos and proved once again that Arsene Wenger must sort out the team's
goalkeeping problems. Unbelievably bad, pitiful and far from reliable. How else can one describe
the current crop of Arsenal goalkeepers currently vying for Wojciech [.
Olympiakos 3 (Djebbour 16, Fuster 36, Modesto 89) Arsenal 1 (Benayoun 57)

It seems the knives are out again. Described as Euro flops in some quarters, and a laughing
stock in others, it seems many of the press are finally able to pull the trigger on the negative
stories they've been unable to run over the past month, thanks to our improved form.
szólj hozzá: Olympiakos Piraeus 3-1 Arsenal
The compendium of horrors first by Lukasz Fabianski and then Vito Mannone, his replacement
helped by a healthy dose of god awful defending allowed Olympiakos to romp home 3-1 in their second
leg against Arsenal. Unfortunately it was not enough for Greek club as Marseilles came back against
Borussia to defeat them 3-2 to secure second spot.

It's getting sirius in the Champions League, people. Our manicure and drinking schedules are
not equipped to deal with this much mania so early in the tournament.

Arsenal (or 'Arsenal B' to completely truthful) ended their Champions League group stage
campaign with a bit of a whimper, going down 3-1 to Olympiakos in Greece. Rafik Djebbour, David
Fuster and Francois Modesto all did the business for Olympiakos while Yossi Benayoun scored
Arsenal's consolation on a night which was perfectly encapsulated by Vito Mannone's bollock-drop
par excellence.
Well that was pretty poor, wasn't it? A performance we can happily stuff down the back of the
sofa, and hope no-one notices. Of course, we can (and will) wheel out the line about it being a
dead rubber, and say that we'd won the group already, so no worries. But let's be honest, it was
pretty rubbish.

Thank heavens for Wojciech Szczesny.
Well, that was pleasant, wasn't it? A team full of reserves and youngsters faced off against a
determined, full-strength Olympiakos side determined to get the win, in any way possible. With a
ravenous home crowd egging them on, this game turned out to be a bit of an ugly affair, with studs
flying at different times and resulting in some nasty tackles and unsightly scenes.

From almost out of the UEFA Champions League to topping Group E, it's been a crazy first
campaign for Chelsea manager Andres Villas-Boas.
Talks of crisis at Stamford Bridge seem to be dissipating after Chelsea routed Valencia 3-0 to
advance to the knockout round for the ninth consecutive season.
Arsenal's last Champions League group stage match ended in defeat, as a tough Olympiakos team
beat an inexperienced Gunners side 3-1 in Greece.
In a match where poor defending dominated, Arsenal went behind from a 16th minute strike from
Rafik Djebbour, who rounded Lukasz Fabianski before slotting home to give the Greek side the
lead.

Didier Drogba scored a brace either side of a first-half goal from Ramires to guide Chelsea to a
3-0 win over Valencia that sees them qualify for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
After many question marks raised over his abilities in recent months, the 33-year old Drogba
looked very much like his old self as he opened the scoring as early as the 3rd minute.
Make some tea or crack a can of lager, and read the preview.
Our kids and fringe players (and Vermaelen and Santos) are in Greece, looking to get some
experience against a good side that needs to win to ensure they get anything out of the group
stage.
I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (not to be mistaken for
Coquelin), Frimpong and Coquelin, as well as Yennaris and Miquel, who I thought played fairly well
out-of-position against a strong City side in the Carling Cup.

Chelsea vs Valencia from Stamford Bridge, London
At some point today, someone is going to go home disappointed with these two teams level on points
in joint second place, and one point behind leader Bayer Leverkusen.
It's a big day for Andre Villas-Boas' current team and his former one as well.
Chelsea's Portuguese manager is already on the hot seat just months into his first season at the
helm, and the questions about his future will only get louder if the Blues can't knock off Valencia
in Tuesday's UEFA Champions League group stage finale (Fox Soccer Channel, 2:45 p.
Following the International break, we are back in the full swing of club football with Arsenal
playing their third game in a week; what with City on Tues, Wigan on Saturday and Olympiakos the
following Tues, we are busy. Long may it remain thus because it means we are in all
competitions.
Today brings Martin Jol's Fulham to the Emirates.
Now that Arsenal have qualified for the Champions League knockout stages as winners of their group,
then surely Arsene Wenger will play a team made up completely of reserves that didn't play in the
game against Wigan on the preceeding weekend? When asked, Wenger said that he would "respect the
competition", and he will still [.
Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta is relieved at the Gunners winning their UEFA Champions League
Group F, insisting that avoiding other group winners like Real Madrid and Barcelona is always
helpful.
Arteta, 29, recently revealed that dressing room reflections are the main reason why the Gunners
have bounced back impressively from a poor start to the season.
Arsenal 2-1 Borussia Dortmund
A fine win against a very decent side means that our last group game (Matchday 6 aah, the romance
of the cup) will be all stations to Dead Rubbersville.
In fact, it will be a reprise of 2009 when an Arsenal side already assured of top spot sent out
the kids and lost 1-0 in Olympiakos.
There are top-quality UEFA Champions League matchups all over the schedule on Wednesday, but
none will command as much attention as the AC Milan-Barcelona battle at the San Siro. Milan striker
Zlatan Ibrahimovic faces his former team for the first time, adding plenty of juice to an already
intriguing game.

Group E
Valencia vs Genk from the Mestalla, Valencia
In what looks to be a tighter group then expected, Valencia know that three points at home against
Genk are a must if they want to control their own destiny before the final match day of the group,
and qualify for the last 16.
Remember Alex, protect the left side
13th of September 2011 seemed like such a long ago now. Both Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund were
really struggling at that time. A little over 2 months since both teams played out a 1-1 draw at
Signal Iduna Park and pretty much everything happened in between these 2 games.
