Morning all.
Last night Chelsea beat Man City. Not with iron bars, sadly. If it were up to me teams I didn't
like (which is all of them) would be sent onto the pitch carrying clubs and planks with nails
sticking out of them and told to have at each other. The team with most men left standing at the
end gets the three points.
So Friday rolls round again in a flash, apparently seven days after it last did. That doesn't
feel quite possible.
Olympiacos on Tuesday started badly and never really picked up, but if you haven't yet filed
that one away under ‘nothing to dwell too much on' then I shall politely recommend that you
do.

Yossi opens his accounts for Arsenal
This was Arsenal's first defeat in this season's Champions League and it had we not qualified
prior, it would be shambolic rather than comical. Olympiacos must have thought we'd done them a
favour but they could rightly be disappointed to miss out on the next stage.

On Saturday lunchtime, Mike Dean shamelessly distorted the hyperreality in Chelsea's aided 3-0
victory at Newcastle - an outcome only a surprise to those utterly outside the loop.
Last night Mr Dean was in Dortmund in a heavily and obviously rigged Champions League match against
Marseille.
On the final rounds of matches in UEFA and FIFA competitions when qualification is dependent on the
outcome of two separate matches, the authorities insist on coincident kick off times to ensure no
team(s) possesses an advantage in time.
Arsene surprised and to an extent disappointed with the selection of Vermaelen and Santos in the
starting eleven. In fairness though, the performance of the team showed it was a necessary evil
because the manager's tactical blindspots created a vulnerable mishmash of talented but
inexperienced players and seasoned professionals lacking match sharpness/form.

No boss, I don't want to go to a press conference.
For all the talk of boring group stage, at least this season's one has been slightly different.
It wasn't the walk in the park it was the previous few seasons. Praise is given where praise is
merit. Olympiacos, Marseille and Borussia Dortmund provided stiff resistance but we've managed to
come out on top.
Winter is stupid. Why do we tolerate it? It's the John Terry of seasons. And I don't mean simply
because it tries to make everything white.
I had the alarm chill problem this morning. The alarm went off. I stuck my hand out for another
9 minutes of blissful snooze which made me feel the chill in the air which made me want to not get
up.
The Game Arsenal tomorrow face Olympiacos in Greece knowing that their place in the next round of
the Champions League is already secure. Rotation will of course be adopted by our manager as we

If drawing 1-1 at home to Fulham and losing in the Milk Cup with an understrength team can be
described as a blip, then our blip was batted away with that assured win at Wigan.
Nice too that the goals were scored not by one man, but by four. Particularly pleasing too that
Gervinho netted one: I think he's had a big effect on our attacking potency, even if he's not sunk
as many goals as we might have liked – though three league goals in ten starts is hardly a
drought, either.

Wigan away tomorrow and a 7am start from Sussex. The full horror of the 3-2 defeat a couple of
seasons back still haunts me but we must travel with confidence although they did win last week so
will be about as buoyant aas they could be when the face us. Great.
We managed a 2-2 draw last term and AW has had his say ahead of the Premier League encounter at
the DW/JJB/ASBO Stadium and he has reflected on recent results going ginto tomorrow's game.

Whether he is the best left-back at Arsenal or not, Andre Santos has given Gooners some moments of
brilliance, such as his smooth strike at Stamford Bridge at the weekend and his similarly
well-taken goal against Olympiacos. Unfortunately, though, he hasn't yet provided a flawless game
for the Gunners and his last game against the [.

Who wants to give me a helping hand?
Arsenal heads to the south of France to continue our Champions League adventure. This is the
first of 2 back-to-back matches against Marseille. Stade Velodrome will provide the backdrop for
this encounter and this is the same pitch where Dennis Bergkamp scored that immaculate goal for
Holland against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup.

Arsenal 2-1 Olympiacos
Whaddya mean, why can't Arsenal do things the easy way? When did we ever do things the easy way? No
no no, we can't possibly put the game to bed at the earliest opportunity. Much better to give us
all real value for our sky-high ticket prices by keeping the outcome of the game up in the air
until the very last minute.
We won. Chelsea didn't. Man City didn't. Man United didn't. We did, and that's the important
bit, especially bearing in mind that we had nine injured players and (with the North London Derby
coming up) only five genuine first choice players were in the starting XI.
The performance wasn't the best, but neither was it the worst.
Video reaction and highlights
It would be fair to say that the performance last night wasn't much to write home about, but
when it comes to Champions League group stage matches very rarely do people look back in time to
comment about how we played. The history books will show that Arsenal won, our 9th home win in our
last 10 European games apparently, and that two debut goal scorers ensured Arsenal took the
points.
Arsenal secured three vital points in the group stage of the Champions League as they registered a
