Wayne Rooney celebrates as Manchester United win at neighbours City
The FA Cup third round saw very few shocks this weekend but did see some interesting results and
a bit of controversy along the way.
In the tie of the round cup holders Manchester City lost in the derby match against record
holders Manchester United by three goals to two.
Gerrard kisses the ball after netting his peno...Liverpool put
five goals past an Oldham side that took the lead at Anfield on Friday night. A very different
starting line up for Liverpool allowed Dalglish to try something new and for once Liverpool could
be described as clinical rather than wasteful.

FA Cup ties are the major draw in England this weekend, while Italian and Spanish sides return
to action for the first time in nearly a month as winter breaks draw to a close.
Manchester United and Manchester City are still the heavy favorites to take home the Premier
League title this year, but it's the FA Cup that provides another exhibition of one of the most
heated rivalries in the world.

Oldham have recently updated their badge, what do you think? Wise
decision? Hahaha... Owl? Wise?... Ohh nevermind!...Ahh, the magic of the FA Cup. 6 years now
since the last time we got our hands on it, feels longer doesn't it? Well Liverpool have Oldham
standing in their way at the moment and if they have any aspirations of reaching the final, they
will need to deal with Paul Dickov's side first.

We wanted to talk about stuff that isn't Luis Suarez. We really, really did. But that didn't
take into account one inescapable fact: Pretty much nobody is talking about Liverpool without also
talking about Luis Suarez. So while the FA Cup draw against Oldham Athletic holds the potential for
distraction on Friday, for now at least there's little to do but tie up a few more of the
Suarez-related loose ends.

As far back as I can remember, I've always wanted to be a floodlight loved floodlights and that
strange, ethereal, almost 'lunar' quality that they tend to lend to football matches but enough

Tally ho!

In a move which will no doubt have taunted the Elland Road faithful, Sir Alex Ferguson moved
striker Dimitar Berabtov back into a central defensive role (alongside Michael Carrick, no less)
for the final stages of United's comfortable victory over Leeds United on Tuesday evening.
A timewaster, then, for a Friday afternoon. It was twenty years ago this year that the First
Division of the Football League was lining up for its last season before the breakaway that would
change the face of English football forever, and this afternoon we are commemorating this by taking
a trip back in time to the 1991/92 season and the Football League's official review of the

Between the sticks is the unfortunate Romain Larrieu of Plymouth Argyle, he

of Germany saw the club who occupied seventh place at the winter break start the day in second
bottom and were involved in a real relegation dogfight which hadn't looked like coming at
Christmas.
