MLS 8-ball: Apologies to Michigan

0
Not only did I not give Real New York FC the proper praise for being an expert on American soccer - I also miscalculated Kartik's score and propped him too high. Call it the Ohio State effect. Everything looks settled... Click to continue reading...

Sven in LA

2
Sven Goran Eriksson will make his first of possibly many trips to the United States as Mexico coach when Mexico plays Chile in a friendly in September.

Not sure if he'll think that's a good thing or not.

Mexico, of course, plays more friendlies on American soil than they do in Mexican turf. Click to continue reading...

Way to go Buckeyes… sigh.

0
This is obscure and inside but it is soccer-related, so no moaning from the peanut gallery. So my alma mater, Ohio State, follows up its miraculous, nearly inexplicable run to NCAA men's soccer championship match with.... a recruiting class that's not even ranked in the top 40 by College Soccer News. SIU Edwardsville Cougars Exploring Missouri Valley Conference Affiliation

1

Well this is what I consider to be good news. The SIU-Edwardsville Cougars have joined the Ohio Valley Conference with their move to Division I. Unfortunately for the soccer and wrestling squads, there is no men's soccer. The Alton Telegraph reports that Athletic Director Brad Hewitt is in talks with the Missouri Valley Conference to participate as an affiliate, as fellow OVC school Eastern Illinois does now.

Geiger must be so proud

1
This remains Andy Geiger's fault. So when you see folks offering him effusive praise, remember he was responsible for a contract so badly written that OB got to keep his money despite being caught cheating. COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State paid former men's basketball coach Jim O'Brien $2.74 million for improperly firing him for violating NCAA [. Click to continue reading...

Headcast Alert, Headcase Alert!

0
Terrele Pryor a Headcase? Uh oh. I talked to someone very close to the Ohio State football program yesterday and he was very concerned about the road ahead for young Mr. Pryor. The adjustment to college is not going to be an easy one after you've been told for so long that you are the greatest [...] Click to continue reading...

Ohio State - Oklahoma Series Announced

0

I love that the media tears us apart about our schedule, but Ohio State is the one program going out and seeking these huge games with other big programs. Texas in '05 & '06, Washington in '07 (not our fault they were down), USC in '08 & '09, Miami(FL) in '10 & '11 and now Oklahoma in '16 & '17. Click to continue reading...

Laurinaitis Staying At Ohio State

2

James Laurinaitus's statment:
After a long thought process and strategic evaluation of the pros and cons of this decision with my close family and friends, I've decided to stay at Ohio State for my senior season to complete my schoolwork and football career.

I know I can still improve as a player, and I know there is still much more to me and for the Buckeyes to accomplish.

NCAA Men's Final Wrap

49
For much of the championship game, the player I raved about from the semifinals, Wake Forest's Marcus Tracy, looked to be a one-game wonder, shackled and shut down by a physical, organized Ohio State back line. But then he did what all good strikers do and showed up--with the dagger, in the conservatory--to snatch at the chance presented to him, equalizing to cancel out Roger Mendoza's Click to continue reading...

NCAA Semifinal Wrap

81
I haven't really been following the college game this year, but I'm taking a look at the closing stages of the Final Four to have a look at the potential level of the draft pool going into the 2008 MLS Superdraft. With that said . . . Wake Forest 2 : 0 Virginia Tech Wake was on the ball early and often, playing a possession game in direct opposition to Tech's "boot it up to Nyarko and wait for Click to continue reading...

When all else fails, defer blame towards soccer

0
I am all riled up about how the Galaxy are killing David Beckham, but this is just too good to pass up: former Ohio State president Karen Holbrook denounced the culture of rioting at the university, then later back-tracked to everybody's favorite fallback line — ...in Europe, they literally kill people at soccer matches. Oh, of course! Click to continue reading...

Get Involved Montage

I don't normally put things on here that have nothing to do with sports, but this is one of those exceptions.

This is a pretty sweet video that the union/SOURCE put together to encourage incoming freshman to get involved at Ohio State. I'm in there representing men's glee club. Check it out.

Oden: "I'm wanting to stay and enjoy this because you can't get it back"

0
From Bob Hunter's Rambling's in this mornings Dispatch,

Oden is writing a blog at http://www.yardbreaker.com/. In a recent entry titled, "The End of the Best Year of My Life," it seems pretty clear that Oden would like to stay in school. "I am going to miss it so much. ... It's the place (that) when you get fed up of being with your parents, you get to get away, not just being the place where you receive higher learning in school, but as a woman or man.
