If the starting lineup the U.S. team fielded in Saturday's loss to Slovakia didn't look far
enough away from Bob Bradley's first-choice squad, wait until you see the team we are likely to
have take the field in Denmark on Wednesday.

The U.S. national team returns to action for the first time since qualifying for the 2010 World
Cup today when it takes on Slovakia in a friendly in Bratislava (10am, FSC).
The Americans are without Landon Donovan and Tim Howard, as well as the injured Oguchi Onyewu
and Jay DeMerit, but there are still plenty of starters who will have chances to show they can play
without the team's top players.

The U.S. men's national team takes on Slovakia on Saturday and the match is one of the last
remaining opportunities this year for head coach Bob Bradley to take a look at different players
and positional pairings before the end of the year.
With standouts Landon Donovan and Tim Howard not called in, and with key injuries to Oguchi
Onyewu and Jay Demerit, the squad Bradley will turn to to face the Slovakians will be a much
different-looking group than the ones that helped the team qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

The United States has already qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Finals in South Africa. They
will be playing two friendly matches in Europe in the upcoming international break. The first will
be at Slovakia on Saturday, November 14, 2009 and on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 against Denmark.
Manager Bob Bradley has called up 22 players for the Slovakia match.

Yes, that is no typo. Thanks to a striker pool as thin as a wafer due to both injuries and MLS
playoffs reaching their peak, Bob Bradley has his hands tied when it comes to available players for
Saturday's friendly against Slovakia. Landon Donovan is unavailable because of the Los Angeles
Galaxy's playoff triumph, while a fringe player such as Robbie Findley also misses out thanks to
success.

Now that we have officially qualified for the World Cup, it is time for the first installment of
Bradley's Babes: 23 for 2010 our attempt to answer the question, "Who should we take along?"Â Â But
instead of taking the standard approach doing our best to guess who Bob will take to South
Africa we decided to focus on who we would like him to take.

So now AC Milan wants to sue the US Soccer Federation for Oguchi Onyewu's knee injury picked up in
the USA's 2-2 draw with Costa Rica. It now looks like he won't be recovered and match fit for at
least six months.
Well gee Milan, since you've barely used him since bringing him to the team, was there some secret
plan to start actually letting him play that we didn't know about?

The United States won the Hexagonal with twenty points, while Mexico gave the best accounting in
the second half of the competition, gaining 13 points out of a possible 15 after August. Honduras
qualifies for the first time since 1982 (When the World Cup was a 24 team competition), and Costa
Rica can feel hard done with 16 points yet being forced into a playoff with Uruguay.

Its a US men's national team theme tonight for the evening links and thoughts. Not that there

a couple really interesting topics surrounding the US national team that I wanted to touch base on

So in these last two World Cup qualifiers, USMNT fans were raving about Conor Casey (Saturday) and
Jonathan Bornstein (Wednesday)?
Yeesh. Quite the odd couple.
And I'm not sure hero is the right word? The 2-2 draw arguably didn't mean much, but winning the
group is cool. Though it would have been nice to beat Costa Rica as a tribute to Charlie Davies,
not scramble to salvage a point at home.

That was bizarre. But it ended up being bizarre with a good ending, so whatevs.
With a shocking last second goal from Jonathan Bornstein off a corner, the US came back to draw
2-2 with a time wastey Costa Rica and finish atop the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying group.
Atrocious defensive play marred the first half for the US and put them in that 2-0 hole, but their
tenacity down the stretch was admirable and perhaps a credit to their desire to put a smile on
Charlie Davies' face.
