Ireland secured a Euro 2012 play-off spot after a dramatic 2-1 win over Armenia, but it
came at a price as Kevin Doyle was sent-off in the second half.
The striker is now certain to miss the first leg of the play-offs and will need some generosity
from UEFA to avoid a two-game ban.
Rather later than planned, here are the ups and downs from the Premiership this week
Going Up...
Robin Van PersieSo the glass man has entered the records books at Arsenal with a ton of goals to his name, both of
which were sublime finishes. Its a shame that his injury record is so poor or else he would be in a
position where he could play for one of the best teams in Europe (muhaha).
Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has named a 27 man squad for the Crucial Euro
qualifiers against Andorra and Armenia next month.
Jon Walters and Seamus Coleman both return to the squad and Wigan's James McCarthy is also named in
the Irish midfield

As the Premiership season moves ever closer, pundits, armchair fans and football purists make
their case for their club.
Will Man Utd once again lift the Premiership crown? Can big spending Man City finally mount a
serious challenge to the title? Can Kenny Daglish inspire Liverpool to glory?
F C BARCELONA: Valdés; Alves, Puyol o Mascherano, Piqué, Abidal o Puyol; Busquets, Xavi,
Iniesta; Pedro, Messi y Villa.
MANCHESTER UNITED: Van der Sar; O'Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic,
Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Fletcher, Giggs, Park; y Rooney.
ÁRBITRO: Víktor Kassai
(HUN).
ESTADIO: Wembley (Inglaterra).
The countdown is on until Saturday epic battle between Manchester United and Barcelona in the
Champions League Final. While Barcelona formation appears to be set, Manchester United's formation
appears to be up for debate. Will United play two up front, will Giggs make the starting 11. So
here is what I would do if I was Sir Alex
Van de Sar
Rafeal Vidic Rio Evra
Valencia Carrick Fletcher Park
Rooney
Hernandez
By going with this formation, Carrick and Fletcher could be supported in the middle by Park Ji Sung
if its need and Rooney could then move out the wing.
Nani.
Along with the my posts about the two key players for Chelsea against United this coming Sunday in
David Luiz and Didier Drogba, I am reposting this article I wrote before the United games before,
because they are still relevant and I believe key in how to beat United on Sunday.
I have had a look at Manchester United and have come up with some key weaknesses in their game that
we need to exploit.
Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has announced a provisional 33 man selection from which a squad

One could say this is the best time for such a game because Arsenal have nothing to lose and can
play without any pressure. On the other hand, it's just as easy to say this is the worst time to
play United because confidence of the players must be really low and the visitors, who don't need
anything more than a draw, thrive in a defend and counter-attack environment.
How many times Chelsea this season, how many times have we promised so much and delivered so
little? How many times this season have we waited for positive changes during a game to be left
sitting here wondering why?.
I'm afraid it's all part and parcel of Chelsea's season and tonight against a hard working United
side inspired by Wayne Rooney, Chelsea paid the price.
I have had a look at Manchester United and have come up with some key weaknesses in their game that
we need to exploit tomorrow. We all know about the threat they pose going forward. Chelsea need to
remain solid and disciplined defensively first and foremost. If we can keep Nani quiet and
frustrate Wayne Rooney we are half way there.
Employing Rooney in Scholes' role instead of continuing to shoehorn him as an out-and-out
striker he is not is the only scenario I can envision really unshackling Rooney's remaining and
decreasing potential.
Well it's about bloody time.
Sir Alex Ferguson emerged from his carefully-carved thinking box and finally employed Wayne Rooney
in the center of midfield for Manchester United.
There was no contentious refereeing decision for us to hide behind today. We were quite simply
outplayed at Anfield.
Our starting 11 was full of surprises. Out went the favored 4-5-1 for tough away fixtures and in
place, we saw Berba getting a rare start and Fletch only getting a spot on the bench.
On Saturday morning at Old Trafford, Manchester United held off their local rivals 2-1 thanks to a
cracking overhead finish from an otherwise off-form Wayne Rooney.
City enjoyed possession and were successful going forward throughout, but the Red side had enough
luck with Rooney's unlikely finish to nick all three points.
Manchester United have gone seven points clear in the Premier League table after a 2-1 win over
City rivals Manchester City, at Old Trafford. The Man United starting XI was: Van Der Sar,
O'Shea,...

SAF has confirmed that both Rio and Evans will miss the City game and that Smalling with get the
start alongside Vidic. I'm not sure if that's more an indicment of the general performance of Brown
and O Shea that they wouldn't get the nod for such a crucial game or just an acknowledgment of
Smalling's assured performances thus far.
Sir Bobby Charlton is deservedly a national hero. It is easy to forget how major a star he was
in his day, and difficult to fathom just how huge he would be if playing nowadays.
But Sir Bobby Charlton is also the official flag-waver-in-chief for Manchester United and, not
for the first time, his interpretation of the facts is completely delusional.
Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni hailed the performances of his young guns - and one 'old timer'
after a convincing and comfortable win over Wales last night.
Trapattoni's side upped the tempo after a tame and goalless first half to power to a 3-0 victory in
the opening Carling Nations Cup fixture at the Aviva Stadium.
Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has confirmed his 22-man squad for the Carling Nations
Cup opener against Wales at the Aviva Stadium next Tuesday, February 8.
James McCarthy has been added to the senior squad and alongside the inclusion of Wilson, Coleman
and Clarke makes for a very exciting blend of young Premiership talent and more experienced
campaigners like Keane, Duff, Dunne and Given.
