STARTERSThe man who led the charge of the re-formed New York Cosmos Paul Kemsley has resigned from the

And since the Cosmos have fallen out of the race for the 20th MLS team, guess who has emerged as
the man behind a new bid to bring a team to New York City.
Their Words The big challenge is for MLS overall. How can they stretch that season into a format
that is kind of competitive with the rest of the world? Right now it's not competitive. If you have
a seven-eight month season, that's not competitive with the rest of the world. US National Team

A bright future looms on the horizon in Libya with spectacular scenes overnight of celebration

Good afternoon! It's a glorious Friday here in RBNY Land. Our team is back in League action
tomorrow, @Rio Tinto Stadium, and it's must win time. That's right! The Red Bulls must start to
pick up full points or face the prospect of missing out on the playoffs altogether.
Nice blog post by Keyvan Heydari in the NY Times regarding the recent rise of Venezuela's men's
soccer team:
Economic policy was a cornerstone in this process. In the 1950s, as Chico Carrasquel
became the first of many Venezuelan shortstops in the major leagues, the president Marcos Pérez
Jiménez promoted highway and large infrastructure projects in Venezuela financed by the nation's
oil revenues.

The gossip mill isn't even fully revved up yet but the NY Times Goal blog is already speculating as
to who could replace Bob Bradley as USMNT boss. Amazing. Apparently we are shunning the traditional

This is the day, your life will surely change.
Good afternoon! Another bitterly cold one here in RBNY Land. Thankfully, Mr. Backe has taken the
boys down to warmer climates, south of the Rio Grande, for some Mexican pre-season training/action.
So let's get into some news from the past week:
One player who would feel right at home in this bitter cold weather, currently being experienced by
the Northeastern US, is former Spurs, Sunderland & Birmingham man Teemu Tainio.
My friend Bruce McGuire of duNord futbol made a post on Thursday that he had discovered a New
York Times poster with close up's of past World Cup balls photographed by Jens Heilmann. If you
click on the poster below you will be taken to that NY Times site. Heilmann has done a wonderful
job capturing these balls and the slide sh0w gives you a bit of history with each of the balls.

Sustainable or no, the Times has the sort of resources newspapers like the
Globe and Mail
can only dream about. But the difference here is one of degree, not of philosophy.
As with the
Globe, the mainpage is littered with Reuters and AP wire reports, although the
layout is much more attractive and the news more up-to-date.
