Exercising in the heat is always a difficult task. Hot environments place a tremendous demand on
the cardiovascular and thermoregulatory systems. This typically leads to decreased performance,

searching for new ways to perform in the heat.

drinking in hot weather might not have the same rejuvenating effect if the liquid has turned very
cold or freezing in its container.

After an intense match, muscle glycogen and blood glucose levels may be very low. That is, athletes
may be very low on energy. The only way to refuel the system, so to speak, is through the diet or
post-game meal. During a tournament, when two matches are played on the same day, players need to
have a nutritional strategy to prepare themselves for the second match of the day - what to eat and

As the soccer season moves into the cold and flu season, it becomes more and more important for
players to take precaution against illness. The months of November through February can be a time
when practices become more intense as players ready themselves for end of the year tournaments. In
addition, the stress of school work, college recruiting and the holiday season increases during

the challenges of the next day. For years, researchers have dedicated considerable time and effort
towards developing foods and beverages that aid the recovery process.

The next time you have a player who seems to lack endurance and doesn't improve with the rest of

What exactly does a competitve player eat? Nope, not doughnuts but hmmm they look pretty good
