Toronto FC are Canadian club champions for a second straight season

Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Toronto FC are the Nutrilite Canadian Championship winners for a second consecutive season and will represent Canada in the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League. Toronto FC had already secured top spot before their final game of the campaign against Vancouver Whitecaps yesterday and, thus, decided to play a number of youth players from the club's academy.

Last night in the finale of the 2009 Nutrilite Canadian Championship, Toronto FC of Major League Soccer dismantled, annihilated and destroyed the Montreal Impact 6-1 to steal away a CONCACAF Champions League spot from the Vancouver Whitecaps. Even worse for the Caps was that the team was in the stands to witness Montreal's collapse that handed the Voyageurs Cup to Toronto.

Montreal Looks to End Toronto FC's CCL Dreams Tonight

USL News at related • 0 views

Toronto FC has a tough task in tonight's finale of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship. Defeat the Montral Impact by at least 4 goals or the Vancouver Whitecaps earn a spot in the 2009/10 CONCACAF Champions League. From a USL perspective, a victory by Montreal over an MLS club would help continue the USL's competitive play against the bigger league and ensure that one USL team would make the group stages of the CCL.

Toronto FC 1 - 0 Montréal Impact - Some thoughts

Life's busy, ain't it? Rather than go into a full match report about Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Impact, I figured I'd just give some quick thoughts since I'm already two days late. Here we go...

- We were much, much better than the Impact. We outshot them 16-3 and hit the post at least three times.

Okay, sure, that one he scores...

No time for a match report yet. What I will say for now though, is that out of all of his chances this season, how many of you expected Barrett to score that one?

Toronto FC v. Montréal Impact - Match Preview

If Montréal were in MLS, this would be the league's biggest rivalry. With that, it's pretty obvious that TFC v. the Impact is the biggest rivalry Canadian soccer has right now. It's not exactly an age-old rivalry, seeing as we're only in our third year of existence. Rivalries between Toronto teams and Montréal teams are age-old though, and when you add in the footy supporters, this already blows any "Leafs and Habs" fan rivalry out of the water.

Of all people...Kevin freakin' Harmse. After scoring just 2 minutes in, I was hoping we'd put a few more goals in, but it wasn't to be. Nonetheless, a win is a win and three points are three points. This year's Nutrilite Canadian Championship is a must-win in my eyes, so I'm content with a clean sheet at home to open things up.

Toronto FC to face Whitecaps in Canadian Championships

The Footie at related • 1 view

It's not often that the Toronto FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps get to play each other. But with the Whitecaps entry into the MLS by 2012 the two rival Canadian teams will get to face off once again. For Canada however the two teams have been matched again for the Nutrilite Canadian Championship games.

I think we're all expecting Toronto to win this tournament this time around.

On May 1 we faced the New York Red Bulls at BMO Field on a cold and rainy night. Marco Velez opened up the scoring for us, heading home a Laurent Robert free kick. It was his first career MLS goal. Dave Van Den Bergh equalized for the Red Bulls just 17 minutes later from a direct free kick. The match finished in a 1-1 draw.

I usually wouldn't care about a CONCACAF Cup qualifier but now that things are shifting into a Champions League in CONCACAF I feel like its time to start taking a little more interest in things. Tonight up in newly opened Stade Saputo in Montreal, MLS side Toronto FC will battle USL side Montreal Impact.

Limniatis sacked by Montréal

TFC Connected by Ben Van Weelden at related • 1 view
This is about a day old now. The Impact have sacked head coach John Limniatis.

It's about as shocking to me as John Carver's resignation was. I don't exactly have the same emotional attachment (tic tac...), but I wouldn't be surprised if a few Impact supporters were scratching their heads over this move.
