I was not happy after Villa Why? Cos minus 2 penalties and a fluke goal, we played average at
best. We rarely created any real goalscoring opportunities from open play. I am never over
enthused with Arsenal when we don't actually play Wengerball.
When we get those slick passing triangles going, opening up a host of chances.

As always this is your open thread for the week to talk all things not quite Sounders &/or
soccer related. The community guidelines still apply. Our entry to OFF-topic today is winter beer.
I expect that those that imbibe have had a few already. I know I've been browsing from Brrrrr to
Ebenezer to Snow Cap to Snow Day to who knows how many more.

Steve Clarke believes it would have been impossible for any goalkeeper to save what he describes as
a 'very special goal' from Luis Suarez on Wednesday night.
The Uruguay international fired both goals as the Reds progressed to the Carling Cup quarter-finals
with a 2-1 win over Stoke City.
But it was Suarez's first - involving a nutmeg on Ryan Shotton and a sensational curl beyond Thomas
Sorensen - that drew looks of awe from all four stands in the Britannia Stadium.

Chelsea pipped Malaysia's U21 Olympic side 1-0 in a friendly in Kuala Lumpur last night, a game
notable for two reasons: firstly, a delightful little 'RVP vs Inter' style nutmeg from Fernando
Torres and secondly, that the Blues were able to win the game without actually forcing the ball
over their opponent's goalline.

Whereas the nutmeg in itself isn't particularly special, you gotta love the little heel-clicks
that break out en masse after Steven Piennar posts a sneaky one through Younes Kaboul's legs...

This one was always going to be difficult. With the Red Bulls missing both starting forwards (Henry
and Rodgers), their main striking option off the bench (Agudelo) and the central defensive tandem
of Marquez and Ream, getting the full three points in Seattle was a tall order. Factor in an MLS
record crowd of 46,505 and relatively short rest after Sunday's wild 3-3 slug fest in Portland and
even a draw may have been a lot to ask.
Ronaldinho has spent the past six months in Brazil, leisurely playing out his football career
for Flamengo. The samba boy remains unfit and a sucker for late night dance parties and, not
surprisingly, he's only made four appearances for the club and scored twice (one of them the
clincher for the Rio de Janeiro State Championship).

On 22 May 2011 Argentine giants River Plate needed a win against San Lorenzo in order to avoid
finishing the weekend occupying one of the Primera Division relegation places. Leandro Caruso got
the hosts off to a cracking start with this back-heel finish to establish a 1-0 lead (note the
nutmeg from Mariano pavone in the build up play) but River goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo threw the

Children have superpowers. They have the capacity to unflinchingly tell the truth. And no, their
tongue does not match the hurtful loose lips of sarcastic & insecure adolescents. Rather,
unblinkingly, they can cut through the smoke of "fluff" to get to the grain of matters. When I
asked Junito if Real Madrid could win before last Tuesday, he said "No.
The real Ronaldo, the player called O Fenomeno retired a day ago. In a nutmeg, he was brilliant.
You could have had three legs and he would have found a way between each of them. He brought
immense beauty to the game. Enjoy.
As for the present Brazilian team something tells me their swansong days will be hard to
replicate.
The famous gap toothed grin will be a thing of the past as Brazilian superstar Ronaldo has
announced his retirement after a storied career that has seen him revered as one of the games most
iconic and gifted front men.
The 34-year old had his heart set on hanging up his boots at the end of the year with a Copa
Libertadores medal being hoisted over his neck with Corinthians, however, dreams don't always
materialise in a sport that can be cruel as well as kind – the aforementioned knowing that all
too well.

Nani has sung the praises of Paul Scholes, claiming that even in training he controls the game
and that his team mates can't get near him.
"Scholesy is just incredible and it's a privilege to be in the same squad," said Nani.
"I said to him the other day in training: ‘Scholesy, you should have stayed at home because
you are playing alone.
