'Hunt'ing for Forwards Will Get England Nowhere

The Third Half 03 November @ 12:07 AM EST
He's twenty-three, has a German father and an English mother, and his double on the weekend against Nurnberg to steal a 2-2 draw for Werder Bremen has all of a sudden put this man on the radar of Fabio Capello. Just one small problem, Aaron Hunt...

WCR Top 25 Clubs in the World - Chelsea Stays Top Edition

World Club Rankings 01 November @ 10:46 PM EST

For the record, the photo accompanying this article is from Thursday's Boca Juniors match with Chacarita Juniors at the Bombonera. It had no effect on the rankings, but I wanted to post a photo of my own to the entry.

For the first time in over a month, a club remained at the top spot of the rankings for consecutive weeks as Chelsea solidified its position at the top with a pair of 4-0 victories over Bolton Wanderers this week.

Bundesbag Week 11 and DFB Pokal 3rd Round: Stuttgart and Dortmund feel the magic

Some People are On The Pitch 29 October @ 12:14 PM EST
It is very likely that Stuttgart coach Markus Babbel may be out of the job after the forthcoming weekend. He received the dreaded vote of confidence after their 1-0 defeat to improving Hannover 96 last Saturday but the club's Sporting Director Horst Heldt made it clear that he was looking for a response against the 2 Bundesliga side Greuther Furth in the German Cup (DFB Pokal) on Tuesday. Bundesbag Week 9: Werder emerge from the pack

Some People are On The Pitch 20 October @ 12:19 PM EST
I think the jury is still out on Bayer Leverkusen as title contenders. So far this season Jupp Heynckes team have beaten Hoffenheim, Freiburg, Bochum, Wolfsburg, Koln and Nurnberg. Of those six results, only two were against teams from the top half of the table. More pertinently, when they have played fellow contenders Bayer have come up short. Click to continue reading...

Wolves got off to a perfect start, while their old boss Magath is right behind them

Soccer Pie 18 August @ 04:04 AM EST

Werder took a point from Alianz Arena (1:1) and if we are to judge from the play, the visitors deserved to take three points. 69 000 people at the sold-out stadium in Munich saw German international, Turkish-born Mehmet Ozil open the score minutes before the break. Mario Gomez was the one to level the score 73 minutes into the game with the assistance of Phillip Lahm.

Werder Cup winner, Nurnberg in Bundesliga

Soccer Pie 04 June @ 02:07 AM EST

The season in Bundesliga ended in Werder winning the domestic cup and Nurnberg's promotion to the elite. Last weekend Werder recorded a minimum win over Leverkusen in Berlin thus reaching their sixth trophy in the cup and most importantly managed to book a ticket for Europa League next season. Nurnberg's convincing 5:0 win over Cottbus reserved them a place in Bundesliga and their main aim next season will be to stay there.

Maciej Zurawski To Columbus?

WVHooligan 15 January @ 08:33 AM EST
We all know now that the Columbus Crew are actively looking for a player to fill their designated player spot on their roster and it looks like they could be zeroing in on Celtic FC forward Maciej Zurawski. Yo-yo round-up the third

BundesBag 30 November @ 11:20 AM EST
A much better week in the Chumps League for Bundesliga clubs. First up, Schalke kept another clean sheet which is no mean feat with Manuel Neuer in goal. The goalless draw against a poor Valencia side sets up a play off for second place in Group B at home to Rosenborg. I'm not sure how many people would have predicted that. Yo-yo round-up the second

BundesBag 08 November @ 08:38 AM EST
So begins our second look at German clubs in Europe and for the Champion's League it make for pretty grim reading. Stuttgart - A spirited display against Lyon still does not detract from the total absence of points in their group. A dismal campaign reflecting their season so far. The return of some key players from injury will, I think, make for a better second half of the season. Click to continue reading...

Yo-yo round-up the first

BundesBag 24 October @ 12:13 PM EST
This is the first of an occassionally regular round-up of German clubs in Europe. Coming up, the UEFA Cup. But first, the rich western club stitch-up that is the Champion's League: Given the frankly atrocious performances from Bundesliga clubs in the Champion's League up to now this will probably become a short-lived feature. However, for what it's worth, here is the current state of play Click to continue reading...

Week Ten: Mintel Bites Frankfurt

BundesBag 24 October @ 09:17 AM EST
I took the day off today to wait for the washing machine man so took the opportunity to spend the afternoon watching Bundesliga replays and highlights on Setanta. I learned two things from the experience. One, that the circuit boards on Hotpoints are sh*t and two, that German Champions Stuttgart are in deep sh*t. Armin Vey's depleted team travelled to Hamburg last Saturday and were well and Click to continue reading...

Champions of Europe ----- 's second most imporant competition

Bundesliga Talk 04 October @ 10:40 PM EST
Germany embraces the UEFA Cup. With Bayern Munich playing in Europe's 2nd tournament for the first time in a decade, the rest of Germany is trying to keep up with the country's biggest club. That includes Werder Bremen, Schalke 04 and Stuttgart, who are currently in the Champions League.
The going has been tough for the three Champions League teams. Click to continue reading...

Week Five: Ostpolitik

BundesBag 20 September @ 02:55 AM EST
I've got a soft spot for the Admirable Bielefeld. A small club in the Westphalen region of Germany, they have been perennial yo-yos throughout their recent history. The longest they ever stayed in the Bundesliga was in the early 80's for five seasons and since their most recent promotion in 2004 they have successfully punched above their weight and seen bigger, more established clubs such as FC Click to continue reading...

The European Draw

Bundesliga Talk 07 September @ 12:59 PM EST
The Champion's League draw for German teams was not easy as all three clubs found themselves in hard groups.
Schalke 04 drew Chelsea, Valencia and Rosenborg in Group B
Chelsea and Valencia are both stacked squads. While any expectation of going to Stamford Bridge and getting three points should be quickly dismissed, Chelsea have never faired will at Anfield, which is a poor-man's Veltins Arena. Click to continue reading...
