Apparently I'm "soccer historian," which I'll take. Though there are others (like Colin
Jose, Dave Litterer, Roger Allaway and Steve Holroyd).
Anyway, Milwaukee Wave head coach Keith Tozer won his 700th indoor game Sunday
as the Wave beat Rochester 26-10.

The logo of Detroit City FC does not feature a cartoon soccer ball. In fact, it doesn't say or
show soccer anywhere on it: instead, in grand but subdued tones of burgundy and gold, the badge is
dominated by a classy representation of the statue below, the Spirit of Detroit in the city's
downtown:
This is the identity that Detroit City FC have pinned themselves to.
New England soccer fans who can't get enough of the sport will have plenty of opportunities to
watch live soccer this summer, thanks in part to the arrival if three new USL Premier Development
League (PDL) teams in the region. Boston Victory Soccer Club, Connecticut FC Azul and Worcester
Hydra FC have all been announced over the past month as expansion clubs in the PDL.

Champagne, bags of bank notes and Adidas balls: these were amongst the gifts Macedonian Blagoje
Vidinić received during his African odyssey in the early 1970s.
This was a man who presided over the joint-worst World Cup performance of all time, but also a
man who as a goalkeeper had once rivaled Lev Yashin in many eyes, who had played in Los Angeles,
San Diego, St Louis in a pioneering era of American soccer; a man who as coach took two African
countries to unprecedented heights and managed to change the course of world sporting history, by
tipping off Horst Dassler just in time for the Adidas head to back the right man in the 1974 FIFA
presidential election.
Milwaukee Bavarians midfielder Amilcar Herrera (Milwaukee Riverside) earned a
spot on the National Premier Soccer League National Championships Best 11.
The Marquette player missed several late-season matches because of plantar fasciitis in his
foot, but returned to the lineup for the Midwest Division champions for last week's NPSL Final Four
in Madison, Ala.
This summer did not live up to the expectations of Minnesota Kings FC owner Tim Haselberger.
Both the men's team and the first-year women's team struggled during the season with player
attendance and missed the play-offs. However, despite the on-field disappointment, the Minnesota
Kings FC organization has been taking large steps forward and is wasting no time improving the
quality and size of their youth academy and adding to their training resources and
facilities.

Even though the MISL season has not begun you can still catch some great soccer.
The Milwaukee Wave will play two exhibition games this upcoming week featuring members of the 2011

The Summer Soccer Showcase will be held on Wednesday, July 20th at 1 pm and the Beach Soccer game
on Saturday, July 23rd at 2 pm.
The summer is only half over and yet the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) season is nearing
its completion. Despite the Twin Cities having a Division 2 soccer team in the NASL Minnesota
Stars, we also have two NPSL teams: The St. Paul Twin Stars who are the oldest team going back to
2005 and the Minnesota Kings who started in NPSL play last year.

With his 2006 work Soccer in a Football World, David Wangerin shone a light on the murky history
of American professional soccer in a way that other historians hadn't. While most writers
concentrate on the NASL era and beyond, Wangerin filled in the gaps between Belo Horizonte and Port
of Spain, documenting the failures and missed chances of the United States national team alongside
the well-worn story of the NASL's death and MLS's launch.
The third round of US Open Cup play marked the entrance of the MLS clubs into the competition
and brought with it the first upset of the tournament (or the second, depending on what you think
of the NPSL). The general lack of upsets meant two things. One, players who paid attention to the
bracket and picked the favorite out of each geographical group racked up a lot of early points.
I'll be taking in Livestrong Sporting Park on Tuesday for the US Open Cup match between Sporting
KC and the Chicago Fire PDL squad. Look for photos and a game story on Wednesday. Sporting KC
offers these notes on the match...
Fresh off a win in MLS play over the weekend, Sporting Kansas City faces a quick turnaround as
they host Chicago Fire PDL of the USL Premier Development League Tuesday at 7:30 p.
Two rounds were played within one week as the US Open Cup continues to get more exciting. The
teams in the lower levels of US soccer are fighting hard to make an impression against their MLS
opponents. Round Three of the US Open Cup begins Tuesday night, June 28th.
Even though the match in Madison, Wisconsin started on time recently between the 56ers and the
Chicago Fire's PDL side, the heavy rain and lightning storm found a way to postpone the match from
the 21st to Wednesday the 22nd.
Round 2 results were delayed a day thanks to a lightning storm in Madison which forced the
Chicago Fire PDL team and the Madison 56ers to replay their match this afternoon. The Fire win
continues the trend this tournament of a lack of upsets. The only team that can plausibly claim to
have beaten a team in the higher division is USASA's New York Pancyprian Freedoms, who beat the
NPSL's Brooklyn Italians in round one.
The first round of the US Open Cup was yesterday while many Sporting KC fans were at the
US-Guadeloupe game at LiveSTRONG Sporting Park. Today US Soccer announced the third round pairings
for this year's US Open Cup. The third round is that Sporting KC and the other MLS teams will be
entering the competition.
What a great night of action in the first round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup as the lower
levels showed what they are made. Some sides got their first action in this domestic club
competition and dominated their opponents, but the one match that was very exciting to follow was
in Western Pennslyvania.
The Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves claimed sole possession of first place in the NPSL Southeast
Division with a 3-1 victory over the Knoxville Force on Saturday night at Atlanta Silverbacks
Park.
Atlanta forward Tornubari Nyonebue scored two first-half goals, with the second being the
eventual game-winner.
Marco Gutierrez scored in the final seconds of stoppage time as the Chicago
Fire stunned the Madison 56ers 2-1 in a National Premier Soccer League Midwest Region match
Saturday night at Breese Stevens Field.
Gutierrez's goal on a 2-on-1 with fellow second-half substitute Luke Zeiler
came moments after midfielder Trevor Banks (Madison Memorial) equalized for the
56ers in the 90th minute.
After a tremendous spring exhibition season for Marquette, Adam Lysak (Milton)
has continued his fine form.
The forward scored for the third consecutive match as the Madison 56ers completed a successful
weekend trip to Minnesota with a 2-0 victory over the St. Paul Twin Stars in National Premier
Soccer League Midwest Division play Sunday afternoon.
The United Soccer Leagues announced on Monday a merger between the United Soccer Leagues (USL)
and the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). The announcement states that the USL will run the MISL
for the 2011-2012 season.
The League will be led by Chris Economides, senior director of USL's professional leagues.
The National Premier Soccer League kicked off its seventh season last month with plenty of
changes – mainly off the field.
As has been the case during every offseason, several teams left the league and several more
joined, leaving the NPSL with 38 teams for 2011.
But for the first time, those clubs are allowed to pay their players.
The Chicago Fire Juniors started in 2004 as the official youth club of the Chicago Fire. There
are currently eight branches: Fire Juniors (Naperville), Fire Juniors South, Fire Juniors Northwest
Indiana, Fire Juniors North, Fire Juniors Louisiana, Fire Juniors Florida, Mississippi Fire

NEW YORK, NY Five more amateur teams will earn berths into the US Open Cup tournament this year.

You know those kids that wear the Negro League Baseball caps? So you ask them about Satchel
Paige and they look at you like you are the idiot? Or those that wear rugby shirts, and yet they
don't know about the Super League? Those guys that absolutely love the University of Washington but
couldn't talk to you about Don James?
