After sensationally being cleared of tax evasion charges and the subsequent dismissal of Fabio
Capello as England coach by the FA all in one day, Tottenham coach Harry Redknapp is now being
considered as the prime choice to replace the Italian. In fact, Tottenham are said to be bracing
themselves for an approach by the FA.
Shannon Smyth (Mequon/Milwaukee DSHA) was named to the Republic of Ireland squad for the
Algarve Cup in Portugal.
The 24-year-old Smyth, who will start her second season with Amazon Grimstad FK in Norway's
Toppserien in April, has six career caps. She has dual citizenship because her father,
Brendan, was born and raised in Ireland.

Joel Lindpere might not be a Designated Player like Thierry Henry or Rafa Marquez, but he
arguably means the most out of anybody to the potential success of the New York Red Bulls. That
makes the club's announcement Tuesday that he isn't going anywhere anytime soon all the more
notable.
As in summer, there will soon be a transfer deadline ticker over at MLSS, which I'll be stocking
with as much scene-setting and deal-clinching as we can find.Since that won't begin for an hour or
so, let's kick off the day with a couple bits. First off, it now seems Charlie Davies will be
remaining at Sochaux.
Kassey Kallman, a Woodbury, Minn. native and a sophomore at Florida State, has received another
call up to the U.S. Women's U-20 National Team. Kallman has been called up for the Four Nations
Tournament which will take place in La Manga, Spain, from Feb. 3-15. The tournament will also
feature Switzerland, Germany and Norway.
Liverpool football club have taken several youngsters on trial over the last few weeks, including
Swedish midfielder Gustav Engva; Ghana youth midfielder Mumuni Abubakar, and Swedish teenager Abdul

The USA has an all-time record of 2-0-1 in matches played in Arizona. In addition to the 2-0 win
against Mexico on Feb. 7, 2007, the U.S. played in two matches in the early 1990s at Sun Devil
Stadium. The U.S. played to a 2-2 draw against Denmark on Jan. 30, 1993, and a 2-1 win against
Norway on Jan.
Since it's negative gazillion degrees in Norway 'round this time of year, they need to get
creative with their football. And while going inside would be, and often is, the simpler
explanation, it's a lot less fun than becoming human plastic bubbles.
And judging by the way red cards are being tossed around these days, this might be the way
football is heading anyway.

Chris Coleman has been appointed the new manager of the Welsh national team.
An odd fact associated to the appointment of Chris Coleman is that in March 1994 Wales played
Norway in an friendly at Ninian Park. It was the solitary game in John Toshack's first spell as
Welsh manager (a spell that lasted for little more than a few weeks).
Vegard Heggem was back on Merseyside last week to hand over a cheque to the LFC Foundation on
behalf of the club's Norwegian Supporters' Committee.
The former Liverpool defender and members of the Norway supporters' club presented the Reds with a
donation of £1,000 at Anfield on Friday afternoon.

The Nadeshiko benefited from Brazil's inconsistent performances: two draws against Canada (7th, up
2), narrow wins over Mexico (21st, up 1) and Costa Rica (41st, up 3) and a defeat by Denmark (12th,
up 2) not only leave Brazil with a loss of 28 points and in 4th place, but see the Brazilians slip

Craig Bellamy showed Liverpool FC fans what they're missing with a superb solo goal against Norway
earlier today.
Bellamy, who is being kept out of the Liverpool team by the continually ineffective Stewart
Downing, picked up the ball in his own half and ran almost the full length of the field before
curling the ball into the top left corner.
Butterfingers Wales let Norway back into their friendly clash this afternoon after a howler from
Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey. Collecting a simple ball into the box, Hennessey fumbled the ball
forwards into the shins of defender Darcy Blake. Norway's Eric Huseklepp was left with the simple
task of tapping the ball into the empty net.
