Another week of Sporting KC Wizards updates. As mentioned yesterday, 8 former players are up for
the US Soccer Hall of Fame. Coming up soon, Stephane Auvray will figure out his new team in India
when the new premier league holds it draft for "lesser known" and Indian players. Also, Neal Kitson
is on the move, joining Northampton Town of the Football League 2.
There are eighteen teams that spent the whole of 2011 in League Two (four teams are promoted
each season, and two are relegated). Congratulations to Shrewsbury Town, who despite missing out
in the League Two playoffs last May ended the year as the League Two side that had gained the most
points (an impressive 86) during 2011.

The bulldozers moved in at College Grove in Wakefield last week. This, of
itself, should probably not have come as too much of a surprise to those that have been watching
the recent difficulties of Wakefield Football Club of the Northern Premier League for most of this
year, but as a visual analogy it was depressingly appropriate that a club which has had a
disastrous year should have seen its home almost completely razed to the ground in favour of a
multi-sport complex by its owners at the same time that those running the club confirmed that it
was on the brink of closure.

West Bromwich Albion v Liverpool as it happened | Scott Murray
Liverpool won easily at West Brom, who offered nothing in attack whatsoever "Formidable." That's
what Roy Hodgson called Northampton Town ahead of Liverpool's Carling Cup tie against the Cobblers
last season.
Our latest conversation is with Danny Brothers, author of a number of posts for us including a look
back at Northampton Town's 1996-7 play-off winning side. Danny runs his own blog and this has the
obligatory moniker, A Load of Cobblers, although he spreads his net beyond the watershed of the
River Nene to League 2 as a whole, joining forces with our last interviewee Ben Mayhew and Maxi
Hobbs for
Two weeks is a very long time in football. Being a die-hard Ipswich Town fan, I got the train to
Bristol on the first day of the season. After a summer with no football, the expectation and
excitement of the new campaign kicking off was at an all time high. A Michael Chopra brace and

Exeter City 1-3 Liverpool | Carling Cup match report
This was another of those occasions that confirmed how much more comfortable life is under Kenny
Dalglish, Liverpool succeeding where they failed last year by overcoming lower-league opposition to
progress to the next round of the Carling Cup with the minimum of fuss.

scott.murray@guardian.co.uk Scott will be here from around 7.15pm. In the meantime, here's an
excerpt of our preview to tonight's match: Kenny Dalglish, meanwhile, has admitted last season's
embarrassing Carling Cup exit at home to Northampton Town will influence Liverpool's approach to
their second-round tie at Exeter City on Wednesday, although there will be several changes to the
side that beat Arsenal on Saturday and there could be a debut for the 16-year-old winger Raheem
Sterling.
Kenny Dalglish will get his first real up close look at the strength in dept of the Liverpool squad
when his new look side face Exeter in the 2nd round of the Carling cup.
While the clash at St James Park is not the type of midweek game that Liverpool are used to at this
stage of the season, the Carling represents a chance for the Anfield club to end their recent
trophy drought not to mention give some players an early season run out.
Liverpool get their League Cup campaign underway tomorrow in Exeter, hoping to find some sort of
midweek success going early in the new season. It's not quite the type of midweek action we would
have hoped for, but it's football, it's a chance to see some of the less familiar faces get a run
out, and, at this point, it's a chance at silverware.

Carling Cup Second Round Draw 2011-2012- League Cup 11-12 Fixtures is a post from Soccer Blogger.
Follow Soccer Blogger on Twitter The Carling Cup 2011-2012 Second Round draw saw some interesting
fixtures thrown up, with Liverpool being handed an away tie at Exeter City and Leeds facing a
Yorkshire derby with Doncaster Rovers.
Woah now, it took us until February to do a loaner report last season, yet here we are with one
barely into the second week of August. And I've got a feeling we may be seeing many more of
these.
David Stockdale started, played 90 minutes, and made 6 saves in Ipswich Town's
3-0 win at Bristol City on Saturday.
Admittedly I was a bit slow to publish this...so with the added benefit of one performance,
here's the League Two preview!
Who's Looking Good?
Crawley Town: Most bookies favourites, Crawley have the biggest budget in the
league, momentum to die for, and probably the deadliest striker in the division in Matt Tubbs.
Blackpool Seal Ince Deal
Blackpool have sealed the signature of Tom Ince from Liverpool, after the player passed a
medical and agreed personal terms. The youngster joins another ex-Red, Gerardo Bruna, in moving to
Bloomfield Road. Ince, the son of former Liverpool star Paul, has signed a two-year deal with
Blackpool with the option for a further year should Blackpool wish to extend his stay.
Depending on who you talk to, yesterday was either the first sign of the apocalypse or the
equivalent of crashing your bike into a mountain of marshmallows. It was the worst result possible
and an indication that Liverpool will once again be trolling the depths of the Premier League, or
mostly just a result of fielding an overmatched squad in against a quality opponent in a difficult
environment.
The Bantams have signed Liverpool goalkeeper Martin Hansen on a month's loan as Peter Jackson
continues his attempts to freshen up his squad.
The Danish-born 21-year-old has been on the staff at Anfield since joining from Brondby in the
summer of 2006 and he was part of the Reds' FA Youth Cup winning side a year later.
Liverpool will allow Brad Jones to build a career elsewhere if Kenny Dalglish can finalise a deal
for Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni.
Roy Hodgson signed Jones last season as back up to Pepe Reina but the imminent arrival of Doni has
cast doubt over his future.
Jones made his debut in Liverpool's shock Carling Cup defeat to Northampton Town last season and
was eventually shipped out on loan to Derby.
Will Gary Johnson's Northampton Town be swelled by an influx of new fans come next season?
How willing would you be to switch your allegiance to another team – one based 15 miles

Most fans would be recoiling in horror at this prospect, but for one team's supporters, it could
be the future.

For men of a certain age, the name of Leatherhead FC makes the eyes mist over and the memories
come flooding back. The Tanners were in Division One of the Isthmian League (which was renamed the
Premier Division in 1977, following reorganisation) when they beat Colchester United and Brighton &
Hove Albion on the way to the Fourth Round of the FA Cup in 1975, where the BBC's Match Of The Day
cameras saw them steal a two goal lead against First Division Leicester City before losing by three
goals to two.
Our latest guest contribution comes from the estimable David Cox, author of one of our most
extraordinary posts to date - a rundown of the 100 best Northampton Town players of all time which
appeared chez The Two Unfortunates in March. Here, David attempts to get to grips with supporting a
team that is, dare we suggest, slightly less competent than others.
Shortly before 5pm this afternoon a 37-year-old man burnt a pair of football boots in a field in
Gloucestershire and in doing so brought the curtain down on an illustrious career spanning more
than 20 years and almost as many clubs.
Julian Alsop headed home a last-minute equaliser in Bishop Cleeve's Zamaretto South and West
season finale against North Leigh shortly before he took a blowtorch to his boots, ending his last
game in typically flamboyant style.

Brad Jones has joined Derby County on a loan untill the end of the season. The 29 year old back
up to Pepe Reina was signed by Roy Hodgson as a replacement for Cavalieri in the summer and has
made 2 appearances for the Reds; his debut in the defeat against Northampton Town and again against
FC Utrecht.
So from Barca to Leyton Orient...
It would be a massive shock if we started with anything like a full strength team today, and
whilst Orient are not world-beaters, the game will be a massive one for a few members of the squad;
in particular Marouane Chamakh, Tomas Rosicky and Sebastian Squillaci.

Following the high profile signing of Malaysian national team striker Safee Sali, Pelita Jaya are
now thought to be hot on the heels of Scottish defender Christopher Doig, currently with A League
side Central Coast Mariners.
Doig, who turned 30 last week, represented Scotland Under 21s about a decade ago and has also
played for Queen of the South (who are actually a football team and not a Twitter account),
Nottingham Forest and Northampton Town.
Steven Gerrard has never made any secret of the fact that he has one of Kenny Dalglish's shirts up
on a wall in the trophy room of his home in Formby. Only yesterday did Liverpool's new manager
reveal that he has returned the compliment.
"Yes, I've got [one of his] up in my house. We'll have to stop this society," Dalglish said as he
contemplated his captain's return after a three-match suspension against Fulham at Anfield tonight.
In what is widely known as one of the preeminent rivalries in worldfootball and all of sport
Manchester United and Liverpool have faced off 180 times in almost 120 years, with United holding a
70 to 60 edge in the wins department.
15 of those 180 meetings have come in the FA Cup, with Liverpool's three wins pailing to
United's eight, which include wins in the final in 1977 which denied Liverpool the League/FA
Cup/European Cup treble United would win 22 years later -and 1996.
Roy Hodgson has left Liverpool FC this morning
So the short and tumultuous era of Roy Hodgson at Liverpool FC is finally over after much
speculation about his position in the last few days. His final act as Liverpool coach was to
oversee the club's 3-1 defeat away at Blackburn Rovers in a game which, in itself, seemed to show
all that had gone wrong for Hodgson since he took charge at the start of the season.
Liverpool have sacked manager Roy Hodgson and have replaced him with Kenny Dalglish who has
taken the caretaker manager role until the remainder of this season.
"We are grateful for Roy's efforts over the past six months, but both parties thought it in the
best interests of the club that he stand down from his position as team manager," said Principal
Owner John Henry.
