When asked about possible transfers before tomorrow's deadline day, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp
was typically vague,
"I can't see an awful lot happening," Harry said.
"I will probably watch a game on Sunday but not with a real eye on anyone, although I'm not
going to tell you which match.
I want to start by wishing everyone a very happy new year full of peace and contentment. My trip
has been a real delight and by visiting town like Amherst and Northampton in Massachusetts I've
been reacquainted with the meaning of the words Quaint and Idyllic. Back in India, I used to enjoy
living and working in town like Udaipur a lot more than I did in places like Mumbai, Bangalore, or
Delhi.

Saturday 6th February 1993 was a fateful day, for it was the day that Gillingham pulled of what
is arguably football's finest ever backpass (and I use the word 'finest' quite wrongly) during a
2-2 draw against Northampton in the old Third Division at the County Ground.
Firstly, we'd like to apologise to the author of this piece, Danny Brothers, for furthering his
torment on Saturday. Not only did he have to sit through a ponging performance from Northampton, he
had to write about it afterwards following an opportunistic request prior to the game from yours
truly. Fair play for following up with this, Danny.

Our latest conversation is with Danny Brothers, author of a number of posts for us including a look
back at Northampton Town's 1996-7 play-off winning side. Danny runs his own blog and this has the
obligatory moniker, A Load of Cobblers, although he spreads his net beyond the watershed of the
River Nene to League 2 as a whole, joining forces with our last interviewee Ben Mayhew and Maxi

In the late nineties, Fulham supporter Ormondroyd started following his exploits around the
country by producing an illustrated match report for each game. As Fulham were at the lower reaches
of the Football League at the time, his accurate depictions of Northampton's Sixfields Stadium, and
Notts County defender Matt Redmile may have been lost on the world at large however, he was soon
spotted by the Guardian and started producing a weekly strip on the football world in
general.
Shut the fucking door. El mercato has finally ceased, meaning we can finally get down to the
proper business of actually focusing on the football. I, for one, am ecstatic.
That's not to say the summer wasn't enjoyable. A tad chaotic and frustrating at times, yes, but
it certainly was an intriguing one for the club.
Liverpool 3 Luis Suarez 23′, Maxi Rodriguez 55′, Andy Carroll 58′Exeter City 1 Daniel Nardiello 80′
A surprisingly strong line up from Kenny Dalglish saw Liverpool run out with a side that
wouldn't have looked entirely out of place in league competition, the likes of Meireles, Suarez,
and Adam joining quality squad players like Maxi Rodriguez in attack while a handful of youngsters
managed to make it into the starting eleven at the back.
Like most Wolves supporters I didn't have the opportunity to watch the League Cup game against
Northampton, but I've read lots of reports about the victory. Wolves changed all eleven from the
Fulham game and could win with 4-0. These cup games are usually not at all easy to win, ask QPR,
Norwich and Swansea, [.

Kenny Dalglish admits our premature exit from last season's Carling Cup will be in his mind when
selecting a side to face Exeter on Wednesday night.
The boss will make changes to his team while guarding against any repeat of our penalty shoot-out
exit to League Two strugglers Northampton in last year's third round.

Dalglish desperate for Liverpool not to fail Exeter test
Kenny Dalglish insists Liverpool will not be taking Wednesday's Carling Cup trip to Exeter
lightly. The Reds suffered a shock exit at the hands of Northampton in a penalty shoot-out at

There is a whole lot to enjoy from a myriad of the blogosphere's best writers, but if your
Liverpool winger Tom Ince will complete his move to Blackpool today.
The 19-year-old was given special permission to play 45 minutes of last night's 1-1 draw with
Latvian outfit Jelgava at Bloomfield Road, where striker Craig Sutherland scored his first Pool
goal.
Ince held talks with Pool chairman Karl Oyston afterwards and is to be confirmed as Pool's ninth
summer signing today.

This is a bonus game as with being out all day tomorrow down in London, I didn't even look at any
possible fixtures for this evening. It was only a phone call from Kev Zupp on Tuesday who asked I
fancied meeting up for this game, and having thought about it and also
getting permission
from the wife decided to head south into Northamptonshire.

Liverpool is the latest club to take a look at Reading striker Shane Long with a view to making a
possible move for the striker.
The Reds had scouts watching the Republic of Ireland international bag a brace during Reading's
pre-season win over Northampton last weekend and they are the latest in a long line of reported
interested parties.

Apologies for the awful sound quality...
Here's a story to warm your shrivelled, cynical cockles. Seven-year old sprog Kai Fifield landed
himself a trial with Barcelona after scouts from the Spanish giants happened to spot the urchin
from Northampton having a kickabout with a group of older boys whilst on holiday with his old man
in the Catalan city.
Ben Tozer and Newcastle United agree terms to cancel the player's contract and allow him to leave
on a free transfer. Apparently Ben Tozer is quitting Newcastle in favour of Northampton. Or at
least that's what Sky Sports are suggesting. The 21 year old defender started out as a youth player
at Plymouth Argyle, which [.
Paul Ince's son Thomas is being chased by Ajax and Rangers.
The Liverpool kid, 19, has been offered a new four-year deal but feels his chances of first-team
football are better elsewhere.
Ince has yet to make a full debut since signing on youth terms in 2008.
He was an unused sub in the Europa League qualifier against FK Rabotnicki but came off the bench in
Liverpool's League Cup loss to Northampton for his debut.
Leinster claimed their second Heineken Cup when beating Northampton 33-22
having been 22-6 down at half-time. Fly-half Johnny Sexton claimed the Man of the Match with two
tries and a point haul of 28.
Leicester centre Manu Tuilagi has been handed a measly 5 week ban for his
assault on Northampton's Chris Ashton which left the English International needing
stitches.
Being dubbed a young player with promise is sometimes the cruellest thing that can happen to a
footballer. As contemporaries in the Norwich City youth set-up a decade ago, Ian Henderson and Ryan
Jarvis made their first team debuts within six months of each other. In November 2002, Henderson
scored as a substitute in his second Canaries appearance.
The appeals for both Luke Foster and John Mousinho's red cards received in last Saturday's
defeat at Northampton have been thrown out by the Football Association. The news comes as a huge
blow for Graham Westley who must now prepare for this weekend's crucial encounter with Bury without
two of his most "in form" players.
Our latest guest contribution comes from the estimable David Cox, author of one of our most
extraordinary posts to date - a rundown of the 100 best Northampton Town players of all time which
appeared chez The Two Unfortunates in March. Here, David attempts to get to grips with supporting a
team that is, dare we suggest, slightly less competent than others.

Our play-off hopes remain in the balance after a disappointing defeat at Sixfields against
Northampton. Thanks to Macclesfield's 4-2 victory against Gillingham, we remain in the top 7, but
now have it all to do next week against already promoted Bury.
The term must win is used too much over the course of the season, but tomorrow's game
at Sixfields is just that for both ourselves and Northampton. Three points for the Cobblers would
probably all but confirm their safety and a place in next season's League 2 with so many other
sides nervously looking over their shoulder into the non-league trap door.
Boro travel the short distance up to Northampton in potentially our last away game of the
season. Danny Brothers from the 'A load of Cobblers' site has answered some questions ahead of the
game. Take a look.
Relegation into the Conference looks a real possibility, especially as Barnet have hit
some form.
Residing in Milton Keynes won't seem so bad this Saturday when I make the 15 minute drive up to
Northampton to hopefully watch Boro go one step closer to securing their League 2 play-off
place.
On a visit to Northampton last summer some time, I had a wonder around the ground and took a
couple of pictures of their Sixfields Stadium.
Up until the last four games, Jay Spearing's rarely looked liked having a long-term future at
Liverpool. Admittedly, he also hadn't gotten a consistent run in the side until Gerrard's
season-ending injury, only once playing more than two consecutive games: earlier this season
against Steaua and Northampton.
On-loan goalkeeper Brad Jones has rubbished reports he is set to leave Liverpool in the summer.
The Australian signed from Middlesbrough for £2.3million last August as a back-up to Jose Reina
but has played just twice, in the Carling Cup defeat at home to Northampton and the Europa League
against Utrecht in December.
