The Nigerian international midfielder Sunday Mba, who was the star of the show as his country won the African Cup of Nations in February, is being linked with a $1 million dollar-rated move to Arsenal, around 600,000 GBP.
The talented attacking midfielder shot to stardom by scoring the winning goal against the Ivory Coast in the Afcon semi-final and subsequently scoring the only goal against Burkino Faso to win the title for the Super Eagles.
22-year old Godfrey Oboabona will not be totally unheard of at Arsenal. The centre back plays for Sunshine Stars FC and the Nigerian national team. He played the full 90 minutes in direct opposition to the Arsenal striker Gervinho as the Ivory Coast were knocked out of the African Cup of Nations at the quarter-final stage.
If Ivan Gazidis has not been telling the Arsenal fans porkies, then Arsene Wenger is going to have asignificant amount of money to spend on players in the summer. He didn't use much in January, so should have well over £50 million to strengthen for next season.
The defence has certainly been a bit fragile, and one player who has the talent and strength to boost it seems to be looking for a move to England.
Arsene Wenger has told the media that he would have added to the Arsenal squad last month if he had been able to find available players of the right quality, but he could not, apparently. Many Arsenal fans were hoping for another striker, with David Villa the centre of a great deal of speculation, but Barcelona apparently refused to sell.
The Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) announced on Wednesday March 6, 2013 that the Mexican National Team will face the current Africa Cup of Nations champion, Nigeria, on Friday, May 31 (9:00 p.m.
When Nigeria won the Africa Cup of Nations last weekend, we already knew the Association of Nigerian Prostitutes promised to give them a week of free sex for their achievement. Now Nigeria president Goodluck Jonathan has added to their haul and though his offerings couldn't match the ANP's, they were still pretty great.
Nigeria overcame Africa Cup of Nations favourites Ivory Coast on Sunday, putting the Super Eagles in the final four of the competition. Stephen Keshi's side now face dark horse Mali in the semi-finals on Wednesday, after which the winner may face current favourites Ghana in the final on Sunday.
Defeating Mali and the Black Stars will be no easy feat, but to encourage the West African nation to bring home their third Africa Cup of Nations trophy, the Association of Nigerian Prostitutes — yes, there is an official Association of Nigerian Prostitutes — have promised seven days of free sex if they win.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finished last weekend. All of the players are back with their respective clubs, their focus now on club glory rather than on the international arena. It's a good time to take a short look back at some of the statistics that came out of this enthralling tournament. Perhaps the biggest story of this years Africa Cup of Nations was the failure of Ivory Coast's "golden" generation to lift the trophy that had almost seemed their birthright.
Africa Cup of Nations 2013 What the World Cup should have been is a post from: Just Football
The Africa Cup of Nations 2013 may not have matched the quality on the pitch but off it was how South Africa's World Cup 2010 should have been, argues Marc Fletcher in a debut piece for Just Football:
The curtain closed on the 2013 African Cup of Nations with a match that neatly encapsulated the prevailing plot of the tournament: Disjointed, uneven stretches of play punctuated by decisive flashes of brilliance.

For all the praise heaped upon Burkina Faso for their unexpected run to the AFCON 2013 final, there is little doubting that Nigeria were the best team in the tournament. The Super Eagles only showed this intermittently in the final itself, most importantly with the appropriately-named Sunday Mba's stunning winning goal and goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama's stunning 72nd-minute save from substitute Wilfried Sanou.
With his side 1-0 down and the final whistle looming, Zambia needed a cool head to capitalise on the incredibly dubious penalty they were gifted against Nigeria in the AfCoN yesterday evening.
Up stepped Chipolopologoalkeeper Kennedy Mweene, who proceeded to stick away just about as perfect a penalty as you're ever likely to see.
Over the past couple of weeks Africa has transformed into the centre stage of world football, where South Africa hosted the 29th edition of the African Cup of Nations. Like all tournaments, twists and turns unfolded on such a vibrant place where the beautiful game is played: title-holders Zambia crashed out early, Cabo Verde made a name for themselves and Drogba once again failed to take the trophy home for Les Éléphants.
Winning the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 1994, Nigeria were obviously eager to celebrate after beating Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final. In fact, Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama was so eager to celebrate that as soon as the referee took the ball from him and blew the final whistle, he tried to jam his head between the official's legs and lift him up on his shoulders.
Nigeria won their third Africa Cup of Nations title, beating Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final. Midfielder Sunday Mba scored the match's only goal and it was one worthy of a title. In the 40th minute, Mba took control of a deflected ball just outside the box, flipped the ball over a defender's head and scored with a volley just before another defender could get to it.
This weekend's must-see fixture is the African Nations Cup final when Nigeria and Burkina Faso duke it out in Johannesburg.
Burkina Faso will be taking part in its first ever African Nations Cup final, and they have been handed a big boost following a successful appeal of striker Jonathan Pitroipa's controversial red cardin the semi-final match against Ghana.
After a mid-week round of international matches, club sides all over the world return to action this weekend, with a full programme of matches in all of the major leagues. With some top European clashes on offer this weekend, plus of course the small matter of the African Cup of Nations to settle, there are a wealth of games well worth the watch over this coming weekend.
Matt Pentz reminds us it's getting close at the Africa Cup of Nations
The 2013 African Cup of Nations has been whittled down to four.
In theory, the final four is perfectly balanced: The runaway favorite (Ghana), the resurgent challenger (Nigeria), the sentimental dark horse (Mali) and the outsider (Burkina Faso).

Winning a major international tournament should always be a cause of celebration. But Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama did his best to get himself in trouble in the aftermath of his side's African Cup of Nations win by trying to pick up the referee. Perhaps he was struggling to contain his excitement at the prospect of [.

Burkina Faso and Nigeria are scheduled to meet tonight in the finals of the African Cup of Nations! Jonathan Pitroipa, Burkina Faso's squad's star striker, who has unfortunately been suspended from the game, has been speaking about the exciting final.
As we posted to the tumblr yesterday morning, there were at least 10 international matches of interest yesterday, ranging from the Africa Cup of Nations semifinals in the morning, to a bunch of international friendlies in mid-afternoon, and capped off by the 1st three Hex matches.
Here's a roundup of various match notes and observations from the CultFootball crew:
The twoAfrica Cup of Nations semifinals: I put on the first semifinal, Mali vs Nigeria, midway thru the 1st half, and quickly saw Nigeria go up 3-0 within the span of 20 minutes.
Ghana disappointed again. Granted, they have not looked good in the tournament, and were lucky not to be eliminated by Cape Verde, but they remained favourites against Burkina Faso, who had never made it to a final before. As two years ago, penalty kicks in South Africa proved to be Ghana's doom, and just as Ivory Coast, Ghana must start to consider whether they are also a version of "old Spain",

In the last years the Ivory Coast has been one of the most hyped African teams. And with reason: headed by Didier Drogba the team has one of the strongest teams of experienced players in the best European leagues. But again and again they have disappointed. South Africa 2013 has been no exception. Today they lost 2-1 in the quarterfinals against a Nigeria that has been criticized throughout the

With the time difference I have not had much chance to watch the Africa Cup of Nations. Nigeria is back on top of the African football landscape, after a gritty 1-0 victory over Cinderella side Burkina Faso in the African Cup of Nations final.
Nigerian midfielder Sunday Mba scored the game's only goal in the 40th minute in stunning fashion, flicking the ball over a defender with his right foot, before finishing into the far post with his left.
