Toronto will certainly protect their stars but who won't be protected? (Getty Images)
The 15h and final club in our expansion draft speculation lists is Toronto FC. Yesterday they
announced Preki as their new head coach and his first big task will be helping General Manager Mo
Johnston with figuring out who to protect and who to leave exposed in the expansion draft.

A surprising bit of rumour is making the rounds in the Sunday morning papers that could possibly
have some legs. Reports are linking the recently departed Chivas USA manager Preki to the vacancy
on the Toronto FC bench.
The merit that this rumour has is that Preki, or Predrag Radosavljevic for our Serbian readers, was
a long time teammate of Mo Johnston's at KC Wizards.

I, too, am removing my name from consideration for DC United's head coaching position.
Bill has his own take on the nominees. That reminds me, I need to fill out my MLS awards
ballot.

Well, the good news is, you won't be able to blame me for any of this year's winners.

I'm not a smart man. I mean, for years and years, I thought all those VCRs were supposed to
blink "12:00." Who knew?
So maybe this is hardly a surprise, but I just don't get it when it comes to Toronto FC. My
little brain just can't get around how matters are being managed at a club with such amazing
potential.

Could the 2010 MLS season be in a little bit of danger next season? It seems like it could be a
possibility, as the current collective bargaining agreement is up in January. According to former
Wizard, Nick Garcia in the Toronto Sun (yes I know the Sun is a tabloid), players have been told to
put money back for this year just in case.

Today was a little lesson in redemption. I guess it is possible to bounce back. TFC looked a
tougher team today, Cummins seemed a smarter coach and I might not have been alone in feeling that
I was a more confident fan.
It was cold down by the lake this afternoon. Cold in temperature and cold creeping into the heart
as so many elements of this week's game seemed to mirror chilly aspects of last week's game.

The great thing about following two football clubs is just as one is making you want to rip out
your own insides from all the wasted chances, awful defending and lack of attacking spirit, the
other comes from a goal down to Chelsea to win it 2-1 completely and utterly against the run of
play thus throwing the Premier league intelligentsia (if you can call it that etc.

Sorry for the lengthy absence - I am back. And seething with anger. This isn't exactly going to be
a warm-fuzzy post about how I love TFC. It's a little negative, so brace yourself for it.
If football matches were only 75 minutes long, we'd be 3 points off of first in the league, and
we'd have a playoff spot locked up.

Everyone's had their two cents on TFC's woes this season, but the 24thminute makes things nice and
stark for us: the last fifteen minutes of games are a death trap for this club. Chris Cummins
wildly complained that his players dropped back in the final minutes against San Jose on Saturday
against his wishes, presumably hoping to absorb as much attacking pressure from their opponents as
possible.

In the second minute last night, Jack Jewsbury moved past Tony Meola and into 9th place for the
most minutes played in MLS play for the Wizards, Jewsbury finished the game with 11,420 minutes

that list.

Week 28 in MLS was supposed to be a chance for teams chasing playoff berths to score clutch
victories and grab hold of their opportunities to secure a place in the post-season. Only two team,
the New England Revolution and Columbus Crew, did that.
While the Crew already had a hammerlock on a playoff spot, the Revolution was the only team
currently in the heart of the playoff race to secure three points (unless you count FC Dallas,
which is holding on to the longest of longshots for the playoffs thanks to a suddenly unstoppable
offense).

Nick Garcia poses with irate visitor from space
For a handful of seconds Saturday night, early in the second half against Chicago Fire, Toronto FC
looked like a team that knows how to play this game. Gerba with the ball at the half line in
traffic, rather than his usual solo struggles out in the wastelands, sent the ball out to the left
wing for Dero.

Last night's game in Chicago was yet another episode in frustration for Toronto FC. TFC need
every point they can get to cling to their slim chance of making the playoffs, and unfortunately
they gave up two of them last night.
The frustrating part is that Chicago was definitely beatable, but Toronto still managed to
squander the lead twice in the game and may now be too far out of the playoff race to catch up.

That's about it then right? Enough now with the endless quest for the playoffs? Toronto had to
leave Illinois with three points tonight but could only grab one from a match that saw TFC start
with a frenetic energy and end with most players about to collapse. The
2-2 result was probably fair for both teams who both showed a lot more in
the way of mistakes rather than skill.

and this Saturday's game were so dissimilar:

Galaxy Coach Bruce Arena hasn't exactly rung the changes despite last weekend's record-setting
6-3 home loss to Dallas.
Sean Franklin has recovered from injury and replaces A.J. DeLaGarza (knee bruise) at right back
in his first start since May, Chris Birchall makes his second MLS start in midfield, while Landon
Donovan moves up front to partner Edson Buddle, perhaps the lone bright spot for the Galaxy last
week when he came on as a sub.

It's make or break time. Well, maybe not - one good weekend of results can make quite the
difference in this league. Nonetheless, with a majority of our home season done, we have to take
some points on the road, and taking three from Chivas USA tonight would be a fantastic way to start
a three-match road trip.

Well, the MLS International transfer window has passed on the Lake Ontario breeze once again with
only a Fellinga to show for it. While its never a good policy to buy someone just because they are
foreign (see Welsh, Tebily, Robert, Ruiz etc.), Toronto is a multicultural place and the fans do
like to see that global flair.

important clashes in each conference this weekend could really reshape the standings after Saturday

Wednesday night Toronto FC reached the halfway mark of MLS 2009 as they played the 15th game of a

last week. They were strong with the ball, solid in the back and able to make scoring chances out
of the smallest opening.
