US 0-5 Mexico: El Tri Triumphs After Poor Tournament

Javier Aguirre got a monkey off his back. After a struggle of a tournament which saw El Tri struggle with the likes of Nicaragua and Panama and also need PKs to beat Costa Rica, the Mexican "B" team triumphed today at Giants Stadium.

This same El Tri side didn't score a legitimate goal versus Nicaragua, a nation that was playing in its first ever major international tournament for 85 minutes.

On Sunday I went to the final round of matches in Group C at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. It really is quite a facility. I've been there for three different sporting events (NFL football, college basketball, and soccer), and I participated in a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium last year, so I've seen the UP stadium from a variety of perspectives. Una semana tendremos de descanso de la Copa de Oro tras la finalización de la primera ronda de este certamen que dejó a cuatro selecciones de doce eliminadas, El Salvador, Jamaica, Nicaragua y Granada.

Los equipos de Norteamérica dominaron su grupo, Canadá, Estados Unidos y México calificaron en primer lugar con dos victorias y un empate, irónicamente estas tres selecciones son las únicas campeonas de este torneo.

Dejando de lado el mal momento por el que está pasando la selección mexicana debemos admitir que solo en nuestra región se ven el tipo de cosas que hemos presenciado en el partido México vs Panamá.

Me causa gracia ver que si tenemos que hacerle caso a la CONCACAF para algunas cosas pero en otras nos cargan la mano como si fuéramos un equipo cualquiera, y eso que somos de los "consentidos".

La segunda fecha de la Copa de Oro volvió a mostrar los mismos tintes que la anterior, partidos con muy poco nivel y un Estados Unidos que sigue refrendando su superioridad en la zona.

En el Grupo 1 la Selección que manda es la de Canadá, el conjunto de la "hoja de Maple" venció por la mínima diferencia a El Salvador por lo que ya amarró su pase a la siguiente ronda.

OAKLAND (California): Guade­loupe, surprise Gold Cup semi-finalists in 2007, showed they may be able to repeat that performance, opening their campaign with a 2-1 win over Panama while Mexico laboured to beat Nicaragua 2-0.

Panama, the current champions of Central America, fell behind in the 33rd minute when Loic Loval slotted home after latching on to a weak chest back to the goalkeeper by defender Armando Gun.

Triunfo con sabor a derrota

La Selección Mexicana debutó en la Copa de Oro con un pobre triunfo de 2-0 ante Nicaragua, fue un encuentro lleno de aburrimiento con un "Tricolor" que demostró muy poca personalidad y escaso talento.

México tuvo la posesión del balón pero eso no influyó para que el cuadro "verde" generara llegadas de peligro, tanto Giovani Dos Santos como Miguel Sabah fueron un desastre en el ataque, Carlos Vela no se pudo mostrar pues salió lastimado en los primeros minutos.
