EAT SOCCER! 13 November @ 10:15 AM EST
For the second episode of my international radio broadcast Eat Soccer!, I had the wonderful
opportunity to introduce the listeners to one of the most courageous, motivated athletes I know.
Brandon Culpepper is an American football player, and he took time out of his busy NFL schedule to
give soccer players tips on how they can develop the courage to pursue their dreams to play soccer.

Finally, Chelsea found their "hand" and used it to great effect in their 1-0 win over Manchester
United yesterday. The match was a rough and tumble affair that featured very little in the way of
scoring opportunities for either squad but did feature virtual girth of tension and upheaval at
Stamford Bridge.

Well this season has not had the strong start that Everton was hoping for. Currently the squad
is in thirteenth place, but they are at least beginning the slow climb up the board. But despite
Everton's recent push up the board it has also been a season filled with many setbacks for the top
five squad from last year.

We could probably spend a day listing all the difference between our traditional North American
sports leagues (MLB, NFL and NBA) with the way European soccer clubs are run, or in fact almost all
leagues around the world are run, aside from MLS. For me, one of the key differences is roster
construction.

When I'm away from the blog, I work night shifts in the office. Often times I share the desk with a
huge Manchester United fan. He's big into online betting.
Whenever there is a game on TV we talk about the matchup, the betting line and where the money
should go. A couple clicks later and the bet is in.

The Bucs and Browns are a combined 1-14 this season, while across the pond Manchester United stands
second and Aston Villa stands eight in the Premier League standings. I know what some people are
thinking, what is the connections between the four teams. The connections is simple The Browns and
Aston Villa are owned by Randy Lerner, while the Bucs and Manchester United are owned by Malcolm
Glazer (pictured right).

The NFL has their iconic logo, the NBA has Jerry West, but its easy to see why the top soccer
league in Belgium has the best logo in the world. The Jupiler League logo (above) features a beer
can playing the trumpet, can it get any better than that. Can you imagine the NFL logo featuring a
Budweiser can playing an electric guitar, now that would be priceless.

No surprise there, then: in a tanking economy where even the nation's most popular league, the
NFL, has had trouble selling tickets and Major League Baseball's attendance fell 6.9%, it's not a
shock to learn that as Soccer America reports, MLS' attendance fell overall by 2.9% in the regular
season just concluded, falling from 16,460 in 2008 to 16,037.

I knew Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco was supposed to be a heckuva soccer player, but now
he's claimed on Twitter that he could actually go join pal Ronaldinho at AC Milan if the NFL
experiences a work stoppage. Is this possible? Has anyone seen him play at a charity event or
something?Watch... if he goes, suddenly everyone will be making "if they played soccer" XI's of
guys playing other

Not going to waste anybody's time on a preamble, as we ease back toward club season. Crazy day
Thursday left me with little time to write. Let me just say, it would be nice for the Premier
League to have some consistency in its scheduling. For example, why no noon-ish game on Saturday?
Doesn't make sense.

Sure, the attendance numbers for MLS aren't that strong, down about 700 per game. But it is still
the 4th best season for the league by any attendance measure. No it doesn't compare strongly to the
NBA (slightly up) or NHL (also slightly up), but does to MLB (down 6%) and NFL (in danger of [...]

It's that time again. Time to take notice and realize that the NHL and NBA seasons start way
too soon. It could also be that they end in June, way too late. Either way, they are burning
the public out. Their schedule is way too long.
Tonight is the NHL's opening night and it feels like, your kidding, right, didn't it just end
like a month ago?

New England represents so many of the problems with MLS 1.0. They are treated like step-brother by
their NFL partners, a minor tenant in a stadium that should be beautiful. This game though will
feature a team that on the pitch has scraped together through adversity and managed to teeter on
the edge [.

I hate the word 'Soccer', it should be football and nothing else. As you know, the Americans
have also adopted the Football name for another sport, American Football. You may not have the
knowledge about it that you do about the hideously named 'Soccer' but you can get some quite
brilliant sports betting odds.

another venue.
Philadelphia's front office are keeping their options open as to the site of the first kick in
2010.

Word is soccer stars across the pond are so fearful for their security that they're getting their
car windows made bulletproof.
It makes sense.
The EPL there is kind of like the NFL here, where party-hearty stars often become targets. No
amount of planning ahead is enough for my money.

Arsenal, it is impossible to overlook the strong impact he has made at the

Another week of Premiership action is now in the books, and Thursday means one thing: it's time
for the Thursday Throwdown from A to Z. Here we go...

Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba are in spectacular form.

It was a great experience to go to another MLS stadium last weekend, not least because we were
hosted by the Fire Supporters Club who looked after us grandly. I wanted to share a few
observations picked up over the weekend because I think they are of interest to all soccer fans.
Maybe we could even learn some things from them.

As the STO Commish once noted, tying is Un-American and should be avoided when possible. We
Yanks like clearly defined winners and losers, so tying in the NFL (aka "the Not Football
League") is highly improbable. Heck, tying in baseball and basketball is impossible (except in a
MLB All-Star Game when Selig got sleepy).

Adam gets brownie points for this:

Back, in what's sadly and slowly becoming a long time ago in college, I wrote a column about the
dreaded triple whammy. This occurred during NFL Sundays when all of the following happened: your
favorite team lost, your fantasy team lost and finally you came up empty on your gambling picks. As
I type this in late Wednesday evening, I'm in the mist of a triple whammy.

National Football League on the Summer of Soccer. Staying on topic, one of the issues for Major
League Soccer is how much impact the mentality of the NFL is allowed to have on this sport. Simply
put, the NFL is an operation that doesn't value players in the same way as other leagues.

What is the proper way to honor a legend?
Is it to retire his jersey, have a special day for them, or build a statue in their honor. That is
what we do in the United State, but in England they do it a different way. Take a look around at
the classic stadiums in England and many of them have stands that are named after long time club
heroes.

"There is a lot of politics at Tottenham, but that's Tottenham as a club," added
Bent.
With Daniel Levy, every day is one more day spent in politics, one day less on football. I have
no idea why this man wants to be chairman of a club. He should contest elections for the
Tories.
Anyway, Bent's Twitter rant apparently helped seal the most expensive signing in Black Cats
history.
