I know we had one yesterday, but so much has been going on that we have another. And I meant to
have it up sooner, so a few of these may be old news to some...#1 - The National Soccer Hall of

Add another award for Zach Thornton on the season. Today the league named Thornton it's Comeback
Player of the Year. At the same time the league also announced Fredy Montero as the Newcomer of the
Year.
Montero was one of the league leaders in goals scored this year. His 12 goals on the season blew
away any other newcomer in that category.

Newcomer of the Year. He beat out Sounders teammates Kasey Keller and Freddie Ljungberg for the
honor.

The 2009 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award was far from an easy one to vote for, with the only
clear aspect of the voting being that it should probably go to a keeper from the Western
Conference.
Kasey Keller looked like he might run away with the award early in the season, but neither he or
the Sounders could keep up that early pace.

I turned in my media vote for MLS awards this morning. Some of the choices were tough – and
I'm lucky to have had a head start in considering all the awards.
I was on a small panel that voted weekly for MLSnet's Awards Tracker, where myself and a few
guys smarter than me gave fans a sneak-peak at who might be worth considering.

The end of the regular season has put me in a contemplative mood. Not only because I am left
trying to figure out how the San Jose Earthquakes missed the postseason again, but because I am
asked to fill out my 2009 MLS Awards Ballot. Following the Quakes as closely as I do, I enjoy
access to players and coaches from all MLS teams as they make their way through Buck Shaw
Stadium.

The 2009 version of this award could be contended between just players from Seattle. The
league's newest club also boasts some (if not all) of the best newcomers MLS has seen this season.
From Fredy Montero, Freddie Ljungberg, Kasey Keller, to Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, there's plenty to
choose from when selecting the award.

This picture of Lionel Messi was taken last month when he attended some women's wear fashion week
thing in Uzbekistan. Don't ask us what he was doing there, but hello beard! Isn't he looking
fine?
We're saddened though that Leo's let his hair grow out even more since then, and now he's sporting
that long-stringy-hair-parted-over-a-headband look again.

That was mean.
But we seriously don't have that many quality prospects? Sad.

While the day seems to be lost on everyone's Twitter feeds being down, I figured it was a good
time to get back in the award discussion once again here. Instead of waiting for putting this in
the evening links and thoughts I figured I would break this discussion off into it's own post for
the day.

Last time KC and Dallas faced each other the Wizards took in 6 goals, alot of embarrassment and
Curt Onalfo lost his job. Today, KC is looking for payback.
KC will be missing Jack Jewsbury who in all honesty needs a timeout since his level of play,
just like Davy Arnaud's has been sub par.

San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Darren Huckerby has told an English newspaper he is "99% sure" that
he has played his last competitive game, likely forced into an early retirement because of a hip
injury that required surgery last week.
Bursting onto the American scene last July, Huckerby went on to total six goals and four assists in
14 appearances, earning 2008 MLS Newcomer of the Year honors along the way.
