“You want the challenges in life.” Hughton on Ashley, Keegan, Shearer, promotion…

Newcastle United Blog - NUFC news, blogs and debate. 22 November @ 02:00 AM EST
Of course, just when you think that Mike Ashley's unpopularity with the Newcastle United fanbase has bottomed out and just couldn't get any lower, it usually does. However the only man who has offered him any kind of lifeline is Chris Hughton, who has resolutely chosen to ignore wherever possible almost everything at Newcastle that [. Hughton’s three main priorities: Promotion, promotion and promotion.

Newcastle United Blog - NUFC news, blogs and debate. 21 November @ 03:38 PM EST
Newcastle United manager, Chris Hughton, has been talking about bringing players into the club, either on loan or permanently. His main emphasis seems to be on promotion first, leaving the onerous task of building a squad that is fit for another long spell in the Premiership and beyond until that objective has been achieved. Selling the proud history of Newcastle United?

Newcastle United Blog - NUFC news, blogs and debate. 21 November @ 08:10 AM EST
I recently wrote a short piece on the announcement of Newcastle United having made a deal with Merseyside-based Marketing company, Ampersand. Anyone who read it will know that it was tongue-in-cheek, although I did make references to the timing of the announcement being so close to the renaming of St James' Park and begged the [. Could Derren Brown predict Saturday’s Arsenal line up before kick-off?

Gunners Today 20 November @ 08:50 PM EST

On recent evidence, probably not. If you came thinking this was going to be another intense post after the previous one, I'm afraid it won't. Previewing a Sunderland match just doesn't have the same amount of appeal as say, previewing, I don't know a match against Newcastle. Whoops. Cross that out.

The Friday Five: Footballing Heartbreakers

SoccerLens 20 November @ 02:47 AM EST

In the wake of Ireland's heartbreaking aggregate defeat to France, where Thierry Henry's handballed assist for William Gallas to score an equaliser in extra time denied a team who had performed magnificently to haul themselves level, we pay tribute to five of the greatest footballing heartbreakers in recent memory.

A Newcastle United Blog | Howay the Toon 19 November @ 08:48 PM EST

When Barry Moat's Newcastle United takeover bid failed, a lot of supporters feared that without money to invest in players, we'd struggle to add to our already depleted squad. The current Newcastle squad is probably just good enough to get out of the Championship, but without further investment, it's looking bleak for our future Premier League survival.

Simpson: United Is My Club… But I’d Sign For Newcastle

Republik Of Mancunia 16 November @ 05:18 PM EST

Danny Simpson left Manchester United under a bit of a cloud after mistakes in his personal life saw Sir Alex Ferguson ship him out to Blackburn Rovers. The move was supposed to be as a favour to Paul Ince but Danny struggled to get in the team and the move became a bit of a waste of time.

Simpson is enjoying himself a lot more at Newcastle though and reckons he would sign for them if he was asked in January or at the end of the season.
