Umbro has followed 2011′s New York Cosmos Blackout range with an all new Whiteout Collection

New Year's in NYC x AFR
No, the whole AFR Team didn't come together to take over the Big Apple. Now that would be
writing a few thousand words about. But my brother and I, alongside a couple of friends, did enjoy
a few festivities and quite a bit of footy.
A horrible story is developing in New York City. Pedro Sosa, the National Golden Gloves champion
for 2011, is in critical condition after falling from a bridge following a car accident. The same
accident resulted in the death of his sister.
Sosa and his sister got out of their car to check on a pileup that occurred on the Cross Bronx
Expressway.
As you may have heard, Abby Wambach won the Women's Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year
Awardfor team sports and was honored earlier this week in New York City. Quite a few U.S. WNT
players attended and we've got some pics. Needless to say, the ladies were not in their soccer
uniforms so we hope you can recognize them.
We've talked a lot on here about the 20th Major League Soccer franchise being in New York City.
The league has stated on several occasions that they want the club in the Big Apple. But there are
a couple cities around the country that are hoping to cash in on the 20th franchise and jump in
ahead of a potential New York club.
Every developing youth soccer league dreams of having the appropriate tools to provide their
players with the things they need to succeed and, most importantly, to have fun playing the
game.
For five independent soccer leagues in New York City, that dream became a reality when they
partnered with Socio MLS, which will provide them with many benefits ranging balls and clinics for
coaches and referees, all at no cost to the leagues.
The San Antonio Scorpions, who will join the D2 NASL next season as an expansion team in 2012,
have named Tim Hankinson as the head coach. Hankinson, a New York City native, will begin his
duties of assembling a coaching staff and scheduling player tryouts immediately. Hankinson, 56,
played college soccer at the University of South Carolina [.
By Clemente Lisi – HEMPSTEAD, NY (Sept 9, 2011) US Soccer Players -- Ten years after nearly 3,000
people where killed at the World Trade Center and Pentagon in the worst terror attack on American
soil, Americans will spend Sunday commemorating the bravery of those who died on September 11th,
2001. Among those who will be remembered is Sergio Villanueva, a New York City firefighter who died
while rescuing people from the burning towers that.
I've held off on making comment about the dismissal of Bob Bradley and the selection of Jürgen
Klinsmann to the head of the US national team until today's introduction to the media in New York
City. I wanted to hear from Gulati, but more so from Klinsmann, about the reasons for this change
and the overarching vision for the US national programs in the coming years.
U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati introduced the new U.S. Men's National Team head coach Jurgen
Klinsmann today at Niketown in New York City.
One of soccer's newest brands is Virtu Football out of the fashion capital Manhattan, New York
City. Virtu's latest collection features a premium range of soccer-inspired products for male and
female soccer players and fans. In a rarity in this age of globalization, all of the Virtu's gear
is made in Manhattan, New York City.
Though new United States National Team coach Jurgen Klinsmann won't speak publicly until he is
officially introduced on Monday morning in New York City, here's a selection of columns on his
hiring and the future of the National Team. A Thick Résumé for a Tough Job - from The NY Times'
George Vecsey: Now it is the time for the mysterious gentleman caller from the world where coaches
really understand the sport, or so the.
US Soccer President Sunil Gulati just announced that Jurgen Klinsmann as the new head coach of
the US Men's National soccer team. Klinsmann is the 35th coach in the program's history.
An official press conference will be held Monday, August 1 in New York City. Klinsmann will be
at the helm when the USMNT exacts revenge on Mexico August 10 at Lincoln Financial Field.
On Monday, July 25th I went to Downtown Manhattan in New York City to check out "The Hub" on 82
Mercer Street. There were alot of cool things going on like an 18FT Foosball Table, All-Star Game
Merchandize and many other promotional things. But of course the main reason was to attend the
press conference as Hans Backe, David Beckham, Thierry Henry & Brad Davis represented the MLS
All-Star squad.
Commemorating the New York city blackout of July 1977, Umbro have created a special edition range
of products for the New York Cosmos.
By Chris Wright
As we've seen before here on Pies, Umbro's hook-up with the soon-to-be-revived New York Cosmos
has produced some pretty natty garb to date, so you'll be glad to know that their new 'Blackout'
collection is ploughing a similar furrow.
The limited edition Blackout line has been designed to commemorate the day that Brazilian legend
Carlos Alberto signed with the Cosmos back on July 13th, 1977, which also happened to be the day of
the infamous New York City blackout.
(Manchester, England 2011) Umbro pays homage to one of the most significant moments in New York
City history, the Blackout of 1977, with its New York Cosmos Blackout collection for Autumn/Winter
2011. Applying its tailoring ethos to a new black-on-black range, Umbro has created an off-field
collection building on the current New York Cosmos collection.
We were in New York City for the holiday weekend and the USL PRO Game of the Week between
Antigua Barracuda FC and FC New York. Highlights:
Hard to believe we are a third of the way through the TV schedule and only 60 days away from the
championship match on September 3. This week we're in Richmond, Virginia as two of the
longest-running USL teams, Charlotte and Richmond (both established in 1993) meet at City
Stadium.
Nike, long one of the greatest supporters of women's soccer in the United States, has done it
again. Witness the HUGE billboard of Abby Wambach currently residing at 34th and 7th in New York
City. How cool is that? Answer: Very.
The 2011 Gold Cup Final is set for Saturday night at 9pm, and unless you're one of the lucky
thousands who will fill the Rose Bowl to watch the USA take on Mexico, you will need to find a
place to watch the game on Fox Soccer Channel.
If you will be in the New York City area on Saturday, SBI will be hosting a Gold Cup Final Watch
Party at The Football Factory at Legends in Manhattan (6 W.
So last night there was an afterparty in NYC for Steve Nash's Showdown in Chinatown. To my pleasure
and surprise, 30 Rock's Judah Friedlander was there and talking soccer. Dude was all high on the
Freddy Adu pass and Tim Howard's general badassness but thought overall the Yanks played poorly.
We've been slaking our thirst for footy action with mostly meaningless international matches the
4-0 hiding the USMNT suffered against Spain last Saturday afternoon in Foxborough, followed up by a
lackluster 2-0 victory against Canada in their opening Gold Cup match Tuesday night; the
Netherland's scoreless draw against Brasil Saturday down in Goiânia, and then their 1-0 loss
yesterday against Uruguay in Montevideo (apparently the Dutch gamely undertook this two-match South
American tour to give the two South American powers both a chance to warm up for the upcoming
Campeonato Sudamericano Copa América (July 1-24 in Argentina) as well as a chance to avenge their
eliminations from WC2010
A rare full house at Citi Field
One that slipped under our radar was a friendly played a mere handful of miles from the
CultFootball headquarters Greece and Ecuador played to a 1-1 draw in front of a packed house of
nearly 40,000 fans at Citi Field, the 2-year old home of the Mets.
CONCACAF has split effectively in two factions, a Caribbean section led out of Port-of-Spain, and a
North and Central American section led out of the main CONCACAF offices in New York City. But will
this apparent schism have an effect on the Gold Cup? I say no, or at least, not in public. Because
the Gold Cup is always in the USA (putting aside the 1993 tournament held in USA and Mexico), the
North American CONCACAF offices have greater control over the running of the tournament.
After Jack Warner (Pres. CONCACAF) was suspended by FIFA pending full investigation acting Pres.
Lisle Austin tried to suspend Chuck Blazer for accusing Warner. Blazer remains as General Secretary
as the Pres. does not have the power to choose the Gen Sec.
Now Austin has been suspended, likely for his attempted power grab.
By Cesar Diaz – NEW YORK, NY (May 26th, 2011) US Soccer Players -- In honor of Asian Pacific
American Heritage Month, US Soccer Players is dedicating this feature to New York City's Chinatown
adult soccer league, City Soccer. Founded in 2002 by the NYC Chinatown Athletic Council (CAC), City
Soccer is a year-round league that is open to anyone of race, creed, color, and gender.
MLS commissioner Don Garber appeared at the Sports Business Journal/Sports Business Daily Sports
Facilities and Franchises Ticketing Symposium in New Jersey to talk all things MLS. You can read
more of his answers to questions about the league here, but below are a couple of his responses to
questions about MLS:
On where the league is looking to expand:
"We are focused on New York.
Rick's Cabaret New York is famous for its abundance of beautiful entertainers, its warm
hospitality, and its celebrity clientele. And during baseball season, rarely a night goes by when
there isn't a Major Leaguer enjoying all that the club has to offer.
"I love baseball, and I love baseball players they are a lot of fun and usually good tippers,"
said Rick's Cabaret Girl Valentina.
I always get excited when the top European teams come to the United States for a summer tour. No
matter which team you support there is good football to be seen. I am particularly excited that
Manchester United is coming to the USA for the second year in a row. My only dilemma is which
city to see them in.

A much heated topic is at the forefront once again in light of Barcelona's current era of
dominance. Are Barcelona the best club side in history? Those words trigger an endless debate. Fans
choose sides and support their claims vehemently.
Recordando la película de Julio Cesar Chavez el padre, la leyenda el verdadero idolo mexicano
me encontre con esta foto de la premiere de la película que realizo Diego Luna acerca del
boxeador, para el recuerdo.

By Neil W. Blackmon, writing from New York City Monday was a travel day for your Editor-In-Chief
and he ran into a computer crisis this weekend (story too long and absolutely irrelevant to your
life to tell), so I thought I'd link a few...
Westford, MA & New York City, NY (February 3, 2011) – Sportlifestyle brand PUMA® kicked off the

It was the 87th minute in Japan's Asian Cup semifinal against South Korea when Shinji Kagawa
hobbled off the pitch. With the game balanced on a knife's edge, it was a huge blow to Japan. They
were now without one of their most talented players.

South American U20 Championships: Day 7
It was a revamped Argentina side who took on Chile in Arequipa. The pouring rain dampened
the game as a spectacle, but four goals in the second half gave the drenched fans something to
enjoy.

South American U20 Championships: Day 6
Paraguay bossed this Sunday encounter, yet still lost after Ecuador sneaked a goal in mid-way
off the second half. The young Ecuadorians held on for dear lie for most of the game, but Edson
Montaño's header meant that they left with all three points.

South American U20 Championships: Day 5
Uruguay came into their own on Saturday, as two goals either side of halftime saw them blow past
Chile. It was a dominant performance by the men in sky blue.
If you were in New York City during the summer of 2004 you remember it as the moment Reggaeton ate
Manhattan. It was all Daddy Yankee & Tego Calderón, all the time. And I mean all the time. Sh*t
was as omnipresent as bodega's, tourists, yellow cabs and James Iha south of 14th St. But then,
mercifully, it went away.

In a match that produced a lot of smoke but little fire, Paraguay and Venezuela played out a
tame draw. Venezuela should be happy about a well-earned point in their first game. Uruguay, on the
other hand, will be ruing the missed chances in a game that they largely dominated.

Oh, there will be barbed comments, flying karate kicks, illegal ball handling and an unhealthy
interest in seabirds in New York City soon, people. No, the Kickette staff are not heading to NY
for another ‘brainstorming while drunk' session, although the above descriptors can and do
apply.

U20 South American Championships: Day 2
Before the tournament started, Neymar was tagged as the main attraction. Today, he showed why he
deserves that label. The young star set alight a game which was almost devoid of creativity and
attacking flair.
