I never usually do New Year's resolutions, but this year I decided to give myself a six week
break off alcohol, and I'm starting to regret it already as Arsenal have already given me a couple
of reasons to drown my sorrows. Our first visit to Swansea in 30 odd years and a new ground for all
of us to tick off the 92 list (I'm now on 39).
Measuring events in terms of a calendar year in football is a little silly. Almost everything that
happens in club football is only important in terms of the August to May season. But so many things
have happened to Arsenal in the last twelve months, I felt nostalgic.
Dorking Wanderers 3 Storrington 2 - Sussex County League, Division Two
Dorking is a historic market town at the foot of the North Downs approximately 25 miles south of
London. Dorking began life as a small staging on Stane Street, the Roman Road that linked London to
Chichester on the English Channel.
I read with some interest the news from Ivan Gazidis that away fans could potentially be moved
from their current position in the lower tier at the Emirates to the upper tier of the Clock End
that houses away fans in cup ties.
Whilst I think this is a great idea in principal, this suggestion has raised a few questions
that I'm sure will need addressing.

Ireland will be based in Gdynia in Poland for Euro 2012, the Football Association today
confirmed
Giovanni Trapattoni and Marco Tardelli visited Poland this week to sign off on the base camp for
the finals.
Gdynia is located in the Pomeranian region of Poland and is part of a metropolitan area around the
city of Gdansk, known as Tricity.
The last time we reported from Kettering Town, the club was at the point of being on its knees.
With the whole team having been put on the transfer list, they lost five players on loan deadline
day, only to see three replacements having their transfers to the club cancelled after the club was
placed under a transfer embargo.
Despite the memory of the dreadful performance against Leeds on Tuesday evening looming large in my
mind I'm actually quite looking forward to a trip to the south coast this weekend. Admittedly it's
because it's been a while since I've had the thrill of a new ground to tick off the list, but well,
you have to take your pleasures where you can as a Forest fan [.
After twelve years, comes the return home. Enfield Town have been a going concern for more
longer than a decade now, but today is the day that normality, perhaps, began to return to this
particular corner of North London. They've already played a clutch of matches here a friendly to
open the ground against a Tottenham Hotspur XI, a Middlesex Senior Cup match and a Ryman League Cup
match but today sees the arrival of league football to The QE2 Stadium, which has already on
account of its Donkey Lane postal address earned itself the nickname of "The Donkeydome.
Earlier this week I received formal notification that Tottenham Hotspur PLC is proposing to
de-list its shares and become a private company again. As a shareholder, I've been kept fully
informed even though the postage on the thick wad of legalese cost twice as much as the value of my
holding. I have one share, literally a share holder, so that's very sweet of them, although as a
responsible shareholder I feel disappointed and concerned that the board have wasted this expense
on schmucks like me for whom it makes no difference.
Things seem to be escalating out of control very rapidly at Blue Square Premier club Kettering
Town, where pre-season hopes of a fresh start at a new home have already evaporated, to be replaced
by a sense of foreboding over so little as the short term security of the club. During the summer,
Kettering's move from its traditional Rockingham Road home to Nene Park, the former home of the
club's former rivals Rushden & Diamonds, eight miles from their home town, had provoked more than a
few raised eyebrows.
Enfield Town 2 Tottenham Hotspur 1 - Friendly Match
Enfield Town used to be a small market town in the County of Middlesex on the edge of
the forest about a day's travel north of London. As Greater London has grown, Enfield Town and its
surrounds have become a residential suburb.
James Grossi gets us back into the swing of things by rewinding and pressing play on
what happened in this year's MLS playoffs and the lead-up.
The first twelve matches of the 2011 MLS playoffs have been played; one remains to determine who
will take the honours as Champions.
Just over ten years after their formation, Enfield Town return to a ground of their own at
The QE2 Stadium on Wednesday. The first match is a Middlesex Senior Cup tie against Harefield
United on Wednesday 9th November followed by a Ryman League Cup tie against AFC Sudbury on Monday
14th November.
We have matches for you this evening, as our Non-League Videos Of The Week. Our first comes from
the Blue Square Premier, and is the match between Mansfield Town and Cambridge United. Our second
is from the Blue Square South, and is between Woking and Havant & Waterlooville. We then have two
matches from this weekend's FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round, with Bury Town playing Hythe Town,
and Hednesford Town playing Matlock Town.
The FA Trophy continued this weekend with Durham City entertaining FC United of Manchester
at New Ferens Park, after a brush with serious financial difficulties which threatened the very
future of the club. FC United of Manchester, meanwhile, are still celebrating the planning
permission granted for their new ground.
This time. Perhaps this time. FC United of Manchester have been once bitten and can certainly be
forgiven for being twice shy over their planning application for a new ground of their own, to be
built in the Moston area of the city. Their previous attempt to do exactly this in Newton Heath
ended in failure after government cuts slashed their hopes, but this time there should be no such
concerns.
It's been a big week for Manchester. First of all the Manchester Egg was, thanks to the Food and
Drink festival, brought to the wider audience it deserved, smashing out of the cult snack niche in
to mainstream acceptance, and in doing so being treated with the same sort of awestruck reverence
that greeted Marty McFly's guitar playing at the Enchantment Under The Sea Dance.

We have two posts making up our non-league videos of the week for this week, kicking off with
three matches from the Third Qualifying Round of this year's FA Cup. The clubs taking this part in
this round of the competition will take their place against those of the Blue Square Premier in its
final qualifying round, and should they win this match they will be have a chance of a live
television appearance and the sort of prize money which can make a serious difference to the
well-being of a non-league club.

Liverpool have been handed an extension by the city council to make a decision regarding their new
stadium, according to The Daily Mail.
A decision over whether the club wishes to build a new ground at Stanley Park, or redevelop parts
of Anfield was expected at the end of the month.
However, Liverpool have been given extra time to make a decision, that if the club move, with cost
in the region of £400 million.

This week's non-league videos of the week come from a variety of different competitions,
including the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Vase. First up, though, is the match between
Cambridge City and Banbury United in the Southern League Premier Division. Cambridge were beaten in
the play-offs in this league last season, and are hoping to go one better than that this this
season, whilst Banbury United are are hoping to challenge for the championship themselves.
True enough, it's only the Third Round of the League Cup and both of the teams playing this
evening, whether rightly or wrongly, may well feel that they have bigger fish to fry than this
competition this season. There is, however, something in the sea air in Brighton this evening. The
trains into the railway station are jammed solid and the queue for the trains out to The American
Express Community Stadium snakes out of the station and around the concourse outside.

In this week's review section, a wonderful gesture by the Old Lady, Korean clubs in the Asian
Champions League and a football executive forced to resign in England.
The Stanley Park Question Mark
The international break provides a welcome opportunity to reflect on club football without the
inevitable distractions of results and the transfer market. These two factors would be of
paramount importance to most clubs but Liverpool have one more pressing concern to add, one that
Fenway Sports Group have been carefully considering for some time.
New Stadium ‘The Only Viable Option' for Liverpool
Liverpool's stadium issue has dragged on ever since the previous regime promised a spade in the
ground shortly after taking over, but as we now know those words were as empty as the park in which
the new ground should, by now, be standing.
Well, all of the leagues have finally started. The Isthmian League caught up with the rest and
started its competitive season this weekend, meaning that everyone has now started for the new
season, and this evening two of our four matches come from this league. First up, though, we're off
to Surrey for Chertsey Town's first match in Division One Central of the Southern League.
Former chief executive Rick Parry expects Liverpool's owners to build a new stadium rather than
redevelop Anfield.
Fenway Sports Group are still considering their options but have admitted that increasing capacity
at Anfield is fraught with problems.
Parry, who was the Reds' chief executive in 2008 when plans to build a new ground were shelved due
to a lack of cash, believes FSG will conclude that taking up the lease in Stanley Park is the best
way forward.
Former Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry expects that Liverpool's U.S. owners, New England
Sports Ventures, will conclude that building a new ground, rather than redeveloping Anfield, is the
way forward.
"The new owners have been very smart in not making any false promises or predictions," Parry
told Sportsweek on BBC Radio Five Live.

Molineux, Wolverhampton. Judging by the brightness of the sunshine and the bareness of the
goalmouth, it's springtime. The camera lingers on the main stand as it fills up with a lone
goalkeeper (Mike Stowell, perhaps?) warming up in front of the camera. Finally, a shower of
ticker-tape and the team takes the pitch.
I'm heading up to Kansas City tomorrow for the U.S.-Guadeloupe match. A lot of this trip was
about seeing Livestrong Park, the shiny new ground at Sporting K.C. that is supposedly such a
high-tech dream machine.
But this little trip just got a lot more interesting. Now, the United States needs a result.
