At his season review press conference with the media on Tuesday, Montreal Impact owner Joey Saputo shot down reports that recently retired Impact defender Alessandro Nesta would be the club's next head coach.

Reports surfaced last Friday that Nesta was in line to replace current head coach Marco Schallibaum, who in his first year as the Impact's manager lead the team to a tremendous start before a poor run at the end of the season and a 3-0 defeat to the Houston Dynamo to crash out of the playoffs.

It's hardly a secret that the AFR team has a growing affection for the ever-evolving football culture emerging in Montréal. It is hard to believe that we were up in Quebec only about a month ago, when we captured the gorgeous Stade Saputo covered in snow ahead of the stadium's opener.

Montreal center backs make major impact in win over Sounders

SEATTLE - Forgive the Montreal Impact defenders for not being flustered at the sight and sound of nearly 40,000 fans in the stands. The Seattle Sounders FC support at CenturyLink Field may be spectacular by MLS standards, but it's nothing World Cup-winner Alessandro Nesta isn't used to.

"In Italy, every game, it's like that," Nesta said after his Impact pulled out a 1-0 win on Saturday.

Looking at MLS Salaries

The annual mid-summer dump of player salary information by the Major League Soccer Player's Union has hit, and as always, it makes for a great read for fans. As always, there is plenty of fodder for discussion for fans looking critically at the list of salaries. The Revolution's all new Designated Player Jerry Bengston is making only $120,000, suggesting that his DP status is based on his transfer fee and not his salary.

There's speculation that Ronaldhino will re-explore a move to MLS, or that an MLS team should explore bringing him here.

Alessandro Nesta has confirmed that he is leaving AC Milan after this weekend's game against Novara with Major League Soccer a likely destination for the 36-year-old defender.

Nesta, who began his career with Lazio, won two Champions League finals and two Serie A titles with Milan to go along with the Serie A title he won at Lazio and the World Cup winners medal he picked up in 2006.

I don't always drink beer, but when I do... Alessandro Nesta is too old for MLS. At 36, he's just old enough to be hobbled by age and run through by years of playing in three major running cup competitions a year. Milan squeezed just about every droplet of talent from the Roman, who will be 37 by the time he finishes his first full MLS preseason.
