With the World Cup qualifiers approaching, it's time to take a look at how Alejandro Sabella's boys
and those he's not called up did in the weekend just gone for their clubs. Alejandro Faurlín
impressed in defeat in ... Continue reading →
Because I've had a somewhat disjointed week of deadlines not being what they normally are,
Argentines Abroad is going up ridiculously late this week. All the same, I did receive the normal
dispatches from France, Mexico, Portugal and Spain, so here ... Continue reading →
The Seattle Sounders need a point to win the group. Monterrey basically needs a point to
advance. Both sides will put effort forward, but while the American side has been strong if you
read the preview over at MLSSoccer.com you know that Monterrey hasn't been great lately. In this
edition of three questions we'll dive a little deeper into the reasons behind their struggles with
FMFStateOfMind editor Eben.
So Dynamo beat Monterrey tonight 3-0 in what was an all-too-predictable slugfest. Here are three
links to game stories that detail the carnage:

This isn't going to be a very complete Argentines Abroad post, because I've been very busy so far
this week, and of course Spain and Italy both have yet to get underway properly, but two of our

Well, that was pretty awesome, wasn't it? When you go to Mexico and beat a team as good as
Monterrey, who happens to be using a lot of their starters, there's really no point in worrying too
much about how it actually happened. The Seattle Sounders are 2-0-0 in CONCACAF Champions League
group stage play and are suddenly looking pretty good.

The highly anticipated clash between Chivas de Guadalajara and Pumas UNAM on Saturday failed to
live up to the billing, ending in a disappointing scoreless draw. It was the marquee matchup in the
fourth round of Mexico's Apertura Championship, with the two teams sporting perfect records
entering the match.

Long-term HEGS readers will remember that in 2007, 2008 and 2009 I ran an award to find the Best

Sergio Santana's goal in the 57th minute was the difference, as Monterrey held serve at home and
defeated Cruz Azul, 2-1, in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League semifinal Wednesday
night.
Monterrey's Neri Cardozo opened the scoring in the ninth minute, but Cruz Azul's Adrian Cortes
answered off a free kick just minutes into the second half to give his side a crucial away
goal.
jugadores.
He's not in Argentina's squad to face Portugal on Wednesday, of course, but Carlos Tevez celebrated
his birthday on Saturday with a first half hat trick against West Brom for Manchester City, and on
the very same day the world's ... Continue reading →

Ad the impaler Monterrey midfielder Neri Cardozo had a painful coming together with an advertising
hoarding during his side's defeat to Pumas. The Argentinian attempted to hurdle the pitchside
hoardings, only to catch his trailing leg. Knocked off balance, he flies towards another set of
hoardings and lands painfully on the sharp corner.
