As the transfer window heads towards a close, Liverpool FC finds itself as one of the leading
names in the press for both players departing and arriving at the club. In recent days the club
has seen deals concluded that have taken Alberto Aquilani to Juventus in a season long loan deal
with the option of a permanent move at the end of the season.
Diego Cavalieri is set to play his last game for Liverpool on Thursday night against Trabzonspor
in the Europa League, as he heads off after the game to complete a medical at Cesena of the Serie
A.
With a fee already agreed for the player, the keeper gets the chance to say goodbye to the
Anfield crowd and hopefully help the Reds gain a good starting advantage over their Turkish
opponents to take into their 2nd leg.
Contingent on tomorrow's medical and negotiations, we've seen Liverpool sign two highly-rated
English teenage midfielders within the last two months: Raheem Sterling and now Jonjo Shelvey. Not
only was I told Liverpool were a sinking ship without money, but I thought Benitez never bought
British. And yes, I'm aware I'm basking in the arrival of two youngsters whose combined fee is less
than £3m, but any silver lining during a monsoon.
Sampdoria have not made contact with Liverpool-owned striker Krisztian Nemeth, according to the
player's agent.
Nemeth is considered a rising star in European football and was a major factor when Hungary claimed
third place in the Under-20 World Cup in 2009 and is reportedly on the radar of the Italian club.
Does anyone know who Adailton is? Or Pablo Counago? And what have they got in common?
Give up? Ok, no need to rush to google: the answer is that they both finished the FIFA U20 World
Cup as top scorers (1997 and 1999 respectively) and were considered among the best talents of their
generation.
Robert Vittek become Slovakia's top scorer beating Szilard Nemeth's record but it was another
story of too little too late as the Dutch saw off the Slovaks quite comfortably in the end.
Goals from Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder put the Oranje two up while Vittek's goal came from
a penalty in extra time after Marten Stekelenberg brought down Martin Jakubko.
Robert Vittek is not by any stretch of the imagination, a household name. But he has three goals
in this World Cup, the same as Gonzalo Higuain, a name instantly recognizable. None bigger than the
two he scored today which sparked Slovakia to the group of sixteen and sent the Azzurri
crashing out to their worst World Cup showing since 1974.
Now, in my opinion we didn't play the best football we could have but, WHO CARES!!!! It was the
last game of the season, what mattered most was the result. And, to top things off, Aris also won
which mean Oly finishes fifth in the league! IM LOVING IT!!!!
Alright, as I mentioned in the post before Oly had a very depleted squad.
Well, I've calmed down since last night so I'll attempt to explain in a clearer way what I saw
last night.
Below is a video showing some of the main highlights of the match (it unfortunately misses the
hit to Scocco's chin so I'll keep an eye out for that one).
Well, after the draw with PAOK many people were commenting on the lack of energy or passion from
the team.
Ok, we were terrible today. We did turn things up a bit in the second half which ended with
Nemeth messing up a sitter. But aside from that, we were terrible, and lucky.
However, we scored a PERFECTLY LEGIT goal, scored by the Great Manolas yet for some reason (oh
wait, there is a reason and we all know it), it was dissalowed by the ref.
Well, the ref is not helping us (though he did give us a penalty which we scored). However,
aside from that, our defense is terrible! We are letting every ball through, marking is
non-existent. Both Oly goals could have easily been avoided had our defenders been marking their
players.
Anyways, Olympiakos is playing pretty poor football, but our defense is helping them out.
According to sites here in Greece, Liverpool have agree to allow Nemeth to stay with us for one
more season. Fabulous news! All that remains is for Nemeth himself to agree, and while nothing
official has been said, he has stated in the past that he would have no problem with staying for
another year.
AEK Athens could only manage a 0-0 draw with PAOK Saloniki today. Dusan Bajevic had this to
say after the match:
We started well in the first 10 minutes and they only deserved the first half. We got the rhythm
of PAOK and did nothing remarkable. In the second half we played better but we had no pace and we
could not do anything.
We left Livadia last night with one point from a draw, enough to seal us fourth place as Aris
fall 2-1 to Tripolis. Nothing spectacular really but a game worth commentating on regardless.
So, despite the 0-0 scoreline, both teams had some considerable chances to get a few in the net
with the majority of them coming from Levadeiakos in the first half.
First of all, Happy Easter to everyone celebrating today.
Well, because of the the Easter Holidays there were no matches this weekend and therefore not so
much to comment on. However, there has been some news lately.
Hull lost over the weekend, 2-0 to Stoke, meaning they still remain in the relegation zone.
Well, obviously not a favorable result for us yesterday. Sure, we aren't exactly desperate for
points right now (though they would help since Aris is only three behind us) but it's still painful
to see us drop two points at home to this Panionios team.
To be honest, this wasn't our worst performance yet.
I really have no clue what to say. I mean, before this match, I wasn't expecting us to come out
with anything more than one point. Yet to get the full three points and to do it in such a
fantastic way... I'm speechless.
Before I go on I would like to show the lineup for today's match. In goal was Saja.
Well, Saturday came and I was all excited, waiting to watch my team continue it's undefeated
streak. Saturday evening came, I turned my television on and spent the next ninety minutes or so
watching the most depressing performance from AEK in recent memory.
Our team looked dreadful. Honestly, the score could easily have been 3-0 or more for Larissa had
our post, some luck, and a determined Saja not prevented that from happening.
AEK face Everton at the OAKA tonight in a must win game if we are to have any chance going into
the last round against Benfica, for qualification into the last 32 of the Europa League. No Nemeth so
our forward line will consist of Blanco and Scocco who's really been our top player in an
otherwise,so far,forgettable year.
So, a nice, relatively comfortable win on Monday brought us up from ninth to joint fifth.
We got the three points we so desperately needed, as well as a little bit of reassurance for the
players and fans. Beating a team like Larissa with a score of 3-1 is always a nice thing. Sure,
Larissa might not be at their best, but they are rarely an easy team to win against (I feel like
I've said that many times already this season).
Ok, to be honest, I was expecting a loss for AEK here. Aris were considered favorites for this
game and I think that's somewhat justified. Bearing that in mind, I'll take a draw here. Its never
easy to win away against Aris, even on a good day.
I wasn't able to watch the match since it was satellite.
Well, our night went from good to about as bad as it could get. As you can see from the post
below we were up 1-0 at half time.
The second half started and early on Majstorovic gets his second yellow and is sent off and Bate
tie the game. So, one of our key players is sent off, the pitch condition is deteriorating (and it
was disgusting to begin with) and we were loosing the control over the game we had before.
45 minutes in and we're leading this one 1-0! Blanco scored a penalty (certainly the correct
call) to put us up and we now are in a great position and the win is definately possible.
Conditions are terrible in Minsk. It is extremely cold (near zero degrees celcius) and the pitch
is extremely wet.
Brutta sconfitta per gli azzurrini di Casiraghi. L'Ungheria, trascinata dal barese Koman, affossa
l'Italia con un secco due a zero. Nulla da fare per Balotelli e compagni, sempre più lontani dai
playoff e, dunque, vicini all'eliminazione dall'Europeo, categoria Under 21. Anche le Olimpiadi di
Londra 2012 sono sempre più distanti.
The Italy U-21's continued their very disappointing qualifying campaign with another loss, this
time away to Hungary. The Azzurrini needed a win to get back on track, but now qualification is
getting more and more difficult. The Hungarians won 2-0, with goals coming from Nemeth and Koman
(both players played on the Hungarian side that knocked the Italy U-20's out of the U-20 World Cup
last month).

After today's bizarre defeat to Fulham which defies description, I have to take a look at the
Liverpool's injury list to explain things away.
We were missing Danny Agger, Martin Skrtel, Alberto Aquilani and David Ngog to a virus, not the
swine-flu, but a virus nonetheless.
We were also missing Captain Steven Gerrard to a groin injury, Glen Johnson to a calf injury and
Fernando Torres wasn't fully fit.
