Four player with ties to New England were taken in Thursday's MLS SuperDraft.
Defender Andrew Jean-Baptiste (Connecticut), defender Aaron Maund (Dorchester, Mass.),
midfielder Tony Cascio (Connecticut) and forward Luckymore Mkosana (Dartmouth) all had their names
called at the Kansas City Convention Center.
Duke standout Andrew Wenger and Stanford senior Teresa Noyola were named winners of the Hermann
Trophy on Saturday in recognition of being the top players in Division I NCAA soccer.
Wenger, who signed a Generation Adidas contract after a stellar junior year at Duke, led the ACC
with 17 goals and eight assists.
North Carolina withstood a late-charge from Charlotte to hold onto a 1-0 win and capture its
second College Cup in school history on Sunday afternoon at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala.
Ben Speas scored the decider in the 65th minute while the Tar Heel defenders barely kept the
49ers off the board in the waning minutes as the first-seeded squad ended the Cinderella run of
their in-state opponent.
Once again the College Cup is upon us. While this game has little to do with MLS as a whole,
it's nice to see the current top crop of NCAA soccer prospects, especially since many of them are
probably looking at MLS as an entry to playing professionally. A few are probably already signed up
for Generation Adidas as well.
Later today, NCAA Tournament finalists UNC-Charlotte and North Carolina wil play for the
prestigious College Cup. To give us a better glimpse of what occured during the tournament, Brian
O'Connell caught up with Revsnet founder and college soccer expert Mike Marshall
to discuss this weekend's slate of matches, as well as college soccer at large.

Currently there are far reaching and damaging proposals being considered by the NCAA as a result of
the Presidential Working Group recommendations.
Within the last week, the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League (USL PDL) officially
announced the 2012 inaugural seasons of two new Massachusetts-based clubs, Worcester Hydra FC and
Boston Victory SC. The teams will both play in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference
joining the already established Western Mass Pioneers, Vermont Voltage, MPS Portland Phoenix, New
Hampshire Phantoms, and Ottowa Fury.
Connecticut couldn't cling to its late one-goal lead and paid the price for it as Creighton
edged the Huskies 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 match on Sunday in Storrs, Ct.
Tony Cascio broke a scoreless tie in the 82nd minute to put UConn up late, but moments later,
Giuseppe Gentile leveled it in the 85th minute, forcing the match into two overtimes.

Five New England-based schools have been invited to the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer
Championship after the tournament bracket was unveiled Monday.
Providence College (R.I), Brown University (R.I.), Boston College (Mass.), Dartmouth College
(N.H.), and the University of Connecticut all earned bids to this year's Division 1 tournament.
Boston College, Boston University, and Harvard University are among the 64 schools that earned
bids for the 2011 NCAA Division 1 Women's Soccer Championship after the tournament brackets were
released on Monday.
Up at the Heights, Boston College went 11-5-2, and finished fourth in the perennially
competitive Atlantic Coast Conference.

The opening weekend of the 2011 NCAA Soccer season featured upsets for teams towards the bottom
of the SBI Top 25, an impressive showing by the defending champions and an early peek at a possible
national title game.
Top-ranked Louisville made quick work of No.
The Philadelphia Union have brought in former Player Development League (PDL), part of the
United Soccer Leagues (USL), Defender of the Year Joe Tait on trial.
Tait, revealed as a Union trialist during the team's 5-3 friendly win over the USL's Harrisburg
Islanders, is a 20-year-old defender with the Dayton Dutch Lions of the USL PRO division.
As one of the top players in NCAA soccer, UCLA midfielder Kelyn Rowe is currently on trial at
French club Stade Rennes this week as he contemplates turning professional.
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech's men's soccer program has inked ten signees for
the upcoming season, including five Virginia natives, as well as recruits from as far away as

Williamsburg, Va. - William and Mary Tribe head women's soccer coach John Daly announced a
recruiting class of eight players on Thursday. The newcomers will join a talented Tribe squad that
posted a record of 10-7-2 and reached a national ranking as high as No. 14 over the course of the
2010 season.
FARMVILLE, Va. - Three members of the Longwood University men's soccer team have been named to the
2010 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-State Second Team.
Senior Harvey Headley | Coventry, England (Stoke Park) received the recognition for the
second-straight season, while junior defender Shane Johnson | Ashburn (Broad Run) and sophomore
defender Patrick McDaniel | Midlothian (Cosby) earned earned the honor for the first time.

Louisville's Andre Boudreaux is this week's guest on the Jared Montz Soccer Podcast. He helped lead
the Cardinals to a 20-1-3 season only losing to Akron University in the NCAA D1 College Cup final.
Providence College midfielder Matt Marcin was added to the final MLS Combine roster. Marcin will
take part in the combine at Central Broward Regional Park in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. this weekend.
Marcin, along with over 70 other prospects including five players from New England colleges that
were previously announced, was placed on a team for the five day combine.
