Friday's Daily: Sunday Night Lineup

USSoccerPlayers 20 November @ 10:15 AM EST
With J Hutcherson -- And some eyes turn to Seattle. More than you would think if the Western Conference Final rating is an indication. That game was scheduled at an inconvenient time for the East Coast, so maybe prime time on Sunday works out. The major competition is NBC's Football Night In America. Click to continue reading...

Very, very disappointed indeed...#1 - Delayed from yesterday by another publisher malfunction, my capsule preview for the Under-20 World Cup is now up. Video: David Gregory supports D.C. United

Behind the Badge 27 August @ 08:42 PM EST

David Gregory of NBC's Meet the Press is a long-time supporter of D.C. United and has been to several games over the last few years. With a couple of soccer-playing kids, Mr. Gregory is yet another member of the DC community who has stepped up and issued a challenge to DC area sports fans to attend United's Open Cup final against Seattle Sounders FC next Wednesday.

NBC Hyping mun2 Like No Other

WVHooligan 28 July @ 12:43 PM EST

As some of you have seen over the last day or so on my Twitter feed (twitter.com/wvhooligan), NBC Universal, the parent company of Telemundo and mun2 have been emailing the WVH inbox like no other.

Two typical PR-style press releases and one in a slightly response to my post on the ball being dropped with mun2 broadcasting the game a little while back.

The Return of DB23 & Let's Get the Mexico - US Match on a bigger English language Network

The Zygo Soccer Report 16 July @ 07:53 AM EST
This week it was announced that the Mexico-US match at Azteca next month will only be available on Telemundo and Mun2, with Mun2 carrying the English feed. This means many USMNT fans will have to watch the Spanish language feed. This would not be so bad if it was on Univision or Telefutura, but the Telemundo commentators are over the top in their Mexico bias. Click to continue reading...

USA-Mexico On mun2, Not ESPN

MLS Daily 15 July @ 02:57 PM EST
If you were looking forward to watching the US-Mexico World Cup qualifier on August 12, you might be out of luck. Steven Goff is reporting that Telemundo, which falls under the NBC family of networks, is opting not to sell their English-language rights to ESPN for the match in Mexico City.
With ESPN, who have broadcasted the rest of the USMNT qualifiers this year, out of the picture, Telemundo will broadcast the game on mun2, a channel that frequently broadcasts in English and is geared towards a younger demographic. Click to continue reading...

Ball Dropped: mun2 Carrying US-Mexico Game

As most of you probably heard sometime between yesterday afternoon and this morning, there will be no ESPN broadcast for the US-Mexico World Cup qualifier next month. Sad times I know.

Apparently the game in English will be shown on a channel most either have never heard of or even have on their TVs.

A few minutes with Santino Quaranta

The Offside - MLS 12 June @ 07:00 AM EST

One of the many reasons for D.C. United's steady start has been the play of Santino Quaranta. The midfielder/forward leads his side in assists, and has notched two goals, including the game tying goal against Chivas USA a few weeks back. His story is one that deserves to be told overcoming addiction and learning how to appreciate life.

Scrubs

It's rare that a great TV show out on a high note. Usually by the time a long-running show goes off the air, it's a shell of its former self. But Scrubs definitely did it last night. They managed to wrap up the storylines of the season, and its eight years, with its always-satisfying blend of humor and emotion.

Must see TV?

That's On Point 17 April @ 09:00 AM EST
Ok, pretend this is 1996 and 'Seinfeld' was still part of NBC's 'Must-See TV' lineup. Suppose we took away Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer. All we'd be left with are the likes of Newman, Mikey, Peterman, Uncle Leo, Frank Costanza and let's say Larry David wearing a cape. Would you still tune in? I might, just for the bizarre curiosity of it. Click to continue reading...

Dateline NBC Calls Out Two Local Collection Agencies

Local Media Picks Up on Stadium Delay

NBC Action News here in KC has picked up on the continued delays in the process to get Bannister Mall torn down so that the Wizards stadium and a new shopping area can go in. You Might be an American Soccer Fan

[With apologies to Jeff Foxworthy, not that he'd know what "soccer" is.]
  • If your gym has seventy-five TVs, but none of them are showing the Olympic semifinal between Argentina and Brazil, you might be an American soccer fan
  • If your official Olympic broadcaster relegates the matchup between these world superpowers of football to cable-only MSNBC instead of the primary NBC affiliate, you might be an American soccer fan
  • If the primary channel of your official Olympic broadcaster is filling airtime with fricking Matt Lauer and Al Roker dorking around pretending to be fricking rhythmic gymnasts during that same semifinal, you might be an American soccer fan
  • If the cable-only carrier of this game breaks in - during play - to show MOTHERFLIPPIN @*#$& SASSAFRASSIN ^@#*% RACKIN FRACKIN #!
