SEVILLA
08-09 LA LIGA STANDING: 3rd
Sevilla was able to secure a third place finish last season and qualify directly to the 2009-2010
UEFA Champions League. Not a bad ending considering they finished behind two very potent offenses
like Barcelona and Real Madrid. But the Sevillistas will have their hands full this season.

Best Offense
Hercules lived up to their name and are the rightful winners of this year's award for Best
Offense in the Second Division. The club scored 82 goals this season which was the most of any
club in the division. Hercules were the only club to reach the summit of 80 goals this season and
were in the lead both at home and on the road.

Sevilla FC is the rightful award winner of this year's SATO Best Defense of Club in the Primera
Division. The club was outstanding all year defensively and finished the year with the second
fewest goals given up, right behind champions Barcelona. In fact Barca and Sevilla were the only
two clubs in La Liga this season that allowed fewer than 40 goals total.

Like every season, the 2008/2009 season would be a very tight race for the honor or dishonor of
being named 2009 LLTO La Liga Dirtiest Player. Many young defenders tackled and taunted their
way to the top of the cards list, but for most their strong effort would come up a little bit
short.

Wow ... guess I WON'T be buying one of the 2009/10 Valencia CF kits.
The things are hideous to look at ...
A few observations:
- Kappa, what were you thinking? The shirt's bland. The bat made up of VCF names that will be worn
in European matches looks amateurish ... (the one worn by the confused looking former VCF player
Francisco 'Paco' Camarasa below)
- The sponsor's name is too high on the shirt.

Perhaps I should have seen Atlante's result coming last night. Cruz Azul were without two of their
primary midfielders in Gerardo Torrado and Cristián Riveros, which would have reduced the team's
ability to dominate the midfield. Even so, I was surprised by two things: Cruz Azul's lack of
urgency for a majority of the game, and Atlante's decision to take the game to La Máquina.

After Real Madrid's dramatic 3-2 win yesterday against Getafe, Barca needs a win tonight against

This weekend, Barca won an easy 1-0 victory at Getafe, while Sevilla lost a 3-1 at Valencia in
an amazing game. The game also resulted in a couple of suspensions for Sevilla, as left back
Adriano got a straight red card and goalkeeper Palop received his 5th yellow card of the
season.
