Paul Erickson is the Executive Director of the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission (MASC), an
organization that oversees the National Sports Center (NSC). IMS contacted Erickson last weekend
and he agreed to talk to IMS concerning the organizations attempt to start a new professional

National Sports Center Confirms Move to Create New Pro Soccer Team in
Minnesota
Last Friday, Inside Minnesota Soccer reported that the National Sports Center (NSC) and the
United Soccer Leagues (USL) would announce early this week that the Minnesota Thunder would become
the newest USL-1 team replacing the Minnesota Thunder.

Minnesota and the Twin Cities specifically have a new soccer team called the Kings FC. No, this
is not the new team rumored from the National Sports Center or a renamed Thunder team but a brand
new team in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). The NPSL is a rival to USL's PDL
program.
According to the teams website: The team plans to expand and promote playing soccer at an
elite level, creating hometown heroes as role models, and impacting the quality of life in the
community by providing opportunities for minorities, ESL speakers, and the financially unable to
participate in current programs.

wished to remain anonymous, that there will be a USL-1 First division team playing in Minnesota in
the summer of 2010.
One source close to the Team Owners Association (TOA) and United Soccer
League (USL) impasse did not want to expound on who the owners of the team would be but
did indicate that it would not be the current ownership group of the Thunder.

Cleveland City Stars on Saturday evening. The Cleveland City Stars ended a 13-match winless
streak with the 1-0 victory over the visiting Minnesota. Rookie forward Teteh Bangura scored his

clearly showed Sandro Grande of the Montreal Impact choking fellow player Mauro Biello in an
incident that went unnoticed by video cameras at the game and by the Impact coaching staff. The

team from London England took the Schwans's USA Cup Weekend Puma V Elite competition with a record
of 4-0-1.
