Don't ask us how but it's Monday again, so it's time to bring some more of our favourite football club badges from around the world.
This week we're poring over 25 of the best of the badges from Australian football; the A-League, the National Soccer League that proceeded it and a few crests roped in from the country's other various regional leagues too.
Supposing former Lee Hendrie does decide to come and play for Bandung in the Liga Primer
Indonesia. How would Indonesian football benefit from his presence? It won't of course beyond an
aroma of glamour through having a fairly recognizable face linked with the unofficial league.
Given Indonesian fans' devotion to Manchester United, Liverpool or Chelsea it's highly probable
that Hendrie would have long slipped from the public consciousness and it is highly inlikely there
are a significant number of Villa fans in Bandung who would make him feel welcome in the city of
factory outlets and Brownies.
The men in the studio in Sydney were waiting to cross to Turin for the press conference, but Del
Piero hadn't arrived yet, so they spoke about him for half an hour. There were no ad breaks; no
montages; just three sports presenters sitting behind a desk talking about a man who none of them
seemed to know that much about beyond what they had on papers in front of them.
A little over a decade ago, South Melbourne FC took part in the FIFA Club World Championship as
champions of Oceania, trying their luck in a group containing England's Manchester United, Brazil's
Vasco da Gama and Mexico's Nexaca. South Melbourne could then claim to be Australia's most
successful club, winners of four National Soccer League titles.
It was once the home of one of Australia's finest teams based in Sydney's southern suburbs, St.
George Budapest (who later became St. George Saints), playing in Australia's then-leading
professional division, the National Soccer League (they won the league in 1983). The club had a
rich history, having supplied almost half of Australia's 1974 World Cup team.
December 2nd is an important day for Australia. For it is the day Australia will find out if
they will be hosting the 2022 World Cup Finals, and effectively if the sport will continue to exist
in the country. Or perhaps I should be a little more precise and say its an important day for
Australian Football, since the rest of Australia probably wont care.
Every year from August to February 10 teams fight it out for the privilege of being crowned
Australia's best team. They call it the A-League. Formed in 2005 from the scraps of the old
National Soccer league (NSL) the competition has now entered its 6th season and has had some very
entertaining seasons and finals.
Met up with the former Geylang United and Cambodia national team coach earlier today and had a good
old natter. Catch up with his thoughts on Cambodian football and some National Soccer League
memories on Jakarta Casual TV.
Young Lions have announced Pele will be attending their home game with Geylang United on 3 March.
He will be joined by well known fisherman and kick boxer Eric Cantona.
I've seen Pele a couple of times and never seen what all the fuss was about. First time he ran
round the pitch at Highbury before Arsenal played Aston Villa in 1981, the game Villa won the
league.
One of the rewards I've enjoyed since beginning Jakarta Casual has been the opportunity to run
into familiar names and faces from my time down under following St George in the now defunct
National Soccer League. Steve Darby, Abbas Saad, Darren Stewart, Scott O'Donell, Scott Ollerenshaw,
Les Murray, Francis Awartefe etc were known to me, though I wasn't to them, through the NSL.
Andrew Bernal, Canberra born, Narrabundah FC, former Socceroo, ex-Reading FC Captain and David
Beckhams personal advisor when Becks moved to Real Madrid (Andrew speaks Spanish)has signed up.
As has Andrew Young former National Soccer League Canberra Metros player and Socceroo and Fulham FC
Fitness and Conditioning Head Coach.
ALGIERS, Algeria – The national soccer league in Algeria has canceled matches scheduled for
Friday and Saturday after riots in the capital and elsewhere this week. The Algerian National
Football League announced the cancellations in Al Watan, a local newspaper. The matches were
canceled in an effort to prevent large groups of young people from [.
CAMPBELLVILLE, Ont. Momilo (Mike) Stojanovic, a former Canadian international striker and a member
of the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame, has died. He was 63. He died at home Thursday. Born in Lapovo,
Yugoslavia, which is now a part of Serbia, Stojanovic came to Canada in 1974 to play for the

As a club it may be only little more than six years old, but Melbourne Victory is fast becoming
a key part of the historical make-up of Australia's premier football competition, the A-League. Not
only has this club been the most successful club both and off the pitch in the league's short
history, but it also has been involved in many of the league's key historical moments.

New Zealand World Cup 2010 Preview #22 (Group F) is a post from: Just Football
New Zealand is a island-country in the Pacific Ocean with a population of just 4 million. For a
country of 4 million that has hardly embraced the game of football to qualify for 2 World Cups is
quite astonishing.
Good Player Guide #10 Shane Smeltz is a post from: Just Football
Shane Smeltz
(Gold Coast United / New Zealand)
Shane Smeltz, at the age of 28 and after a fairly non-descript time in the lower leagues of
English football, has been fantastic in the last couple of the seasons of the Australian
A-League.

Part Three of A More Splendid Life's Month-Long series on the History of Soccer in Toronto. In
typical Canadian fashion, the Globe and Mail referred to the preposterous on-field punch-ups and

There are serious rumblings in the Chicago soccer community that Krzysztof Krol's days as a
soccer player in Chicago are not over just yet. The National Soccer League's indoor season is just
underway but I'm pretty sure they have rules against professionals. Peter Wilt also said there
would be a major announcement soon for the Riot.
The road to World Cup 2010 is getting more exciting by the minute. A Thierry Henry hand ball?
FIFA's refusal to make Ireland the first #33. Now, we turn to South America and the CONMEBOL.
Newly relegated to the second division, Chilean club Rangers has less than 48 hours to make a
decision that will affect the World Cup 2010 hopes of an ENTIRE nation.
United's next opponent in the CONCACAF Champions League Group B is Trinidad & Tobago's San Juan
Jabloteh. The Trinidad & Tobago side qualified for the Champions League as the third place team in
the Caribbean Football Union and holds a 0-2-0 record in Group B.
San Juan Jabloteh plays its home games at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain,
Trinidad.
These days, the A-League average (salary) is more than $100,000 — a marked increase
in a few short years on the sort of wages that were offered (and often not paid by bankrupt clubs)
in the old National Soccer League.
Michael Lynch writing in The Age looks at where the A-League can source their next players from.
Perth Glory Football Club is an football (soccer) club from Perth, Western Australia, playing in
the Hyndai A-League. The Glory was one of only three clubs to survive from the now defunct National
Soccer League. They finished in 7th place in the 2008-09 A-League. Earlier today, Perth Glory Owner
Mr Tony Sage unveiled the club's new [.
For the few brave souls that have read this series in its entirety, you will probably have noticed
a marked difference between Canadian soccer in the late 19th and early 20th century (1885 v. USA,
the 1888 tour of Britain, the 1904 Galt FC win), and soccer after the First World War. I've touched
on this topic in one or two posts, yet because it is of tantamount importance to the direction

It has been a long time coming for Rodrigo "Roddy" Vargas but he now finds himself on the
cusp of a national cap. 29 years old Vargas has been selected in Pim's twenty-three man squad to
take on Ghana on Friday 23rd of May in Sydney and it looks like he may get a start.
Vargas has been a standout performer for Victory in its recent AFC Champions League campaign.
