I've got to admit, feeling like a loser has become a part of my identity, low self-confidence
hard-wired into my DNA by virtue of too many years of hardship. On Saturday morning, as Arsenal
destroyed Blackburn 7-1, I got to feel like a winner again. And it felt good. Really good.
In terms of pure bliss, I don't know that I've sincerely enjoyed any weekend of sports more than
the past one.
By J Hutcherson - WASHINGTON, DC (Feb 1, 2012) US Soccer Players -- In our Corner feature a couple
of weeks ago, we looked at the rules for overtime in the National Football League and compared them
to soccer. When we rated the likelihood of the issue going away, we gave it a 9 out of a possible
11. That was mainly due to complaints about the current overtime system coming out of this
summer's.
Video analysis is an important piece of the evaluation process for a coaching staff, and is also an
invaluable teaching tool.
In relation to the use of video, I always tell our players that 'you have what I thought, what you
thought, and the truth...because video NEVER lies.'
The ability to show critical analysis of what went wrong in the previous match or training session,
as well as areas of improvement from the previous week, is an invaluable way to help your players
grow and develop.
By Jason Davis - WASHINGTON, DC (Jan 19, 2011) US Soccer Players -- Fox, the national broadcast
network that counts iconic properties like The Simpsons and the National Football League among its
assets, blazed a new trail by airing a live English Premier League soccer match on Sunday. Soccer
getting the full televised sports treatment on a network that isn't an opt-in premium purchase, but
a basic part of most Americans' television rotation, cannot be.
Corner is a new feature each Monday on US Soccer Players that attempts to breakdown an issue
trending in the world of soccer in under 400 words. Yes, this explanation counts. For those of you
watching the end of the National Football League playoff game between the San Francisco 49er's and
the New York Giants, you probably took a soccer moment when the announcers explained the new and
improved rules for overtime.
No matter how good a coach you may be, your success will ultimately come down to your players on
the field.
Especially in professional sports, ownership groups with itchy trigger fingers seem to think that a
quick firing can present a quick fix for a team in disarray. That has been brought to the forefront
in the National Football League (NFL) here in the United States, and in the English Premier League
(EPL).
I've never been a fan of the League Cup. In a season of 33 league games (28 next season) plus
the Singapore Cup I have always felt this is a competition too much on the crowded calendar but I
don't call the shots and no one listens to me so who cares?!
With the revamp of the SLeague next season it would be nice if we could also have a revamp of
this insignificant little competition.
So, the English Premier League will not be staging that dreaded 39th game overseas any time
soon, which perhaps allows some of those grassroots fans to be thankful for something while they
see the rest of their game being taken away. Chief executive Richard Scudamore certainly wanted to
distance himself not only from his own failed idea but also from Scottish Premier League chief Neil
Doncaster's idea of taking the Old Firm abroad, which could be taken as simply a throw-away comment
or a cheeky notice to Mr.
When Don Garber, a former National Football League marketing executive, took over as Commissioner
of Major League Soccer in August...
Why anyone still clinging onto the 39th game proposal should heed lesson of NFL's London

Whenm in 2007, America's National Football League first announced that it was coming to the
United Kingdom, the league's website was swamped with more than a million requests for tickets.
No surprise given their "issues."
But wonder what their response will be.
1.Learn, dynamically rebrand/engage and go again - (requires a massive change of strategy)
2. Head in the sand; and increase Croatian colours and imagery around the ground and celebrate the
annual winning of the ACT Premier League thru simply paying more dough.
Early last month, senior executives from the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA), the
League Managers' Association, the Football Association (FA), the Football League and the Premier
League met with Cyrus Mehri, an American lawyer who, along with the late Johnnie Cochran and a
labor economist, Janice Madden, drafted and successfully petitioned the National Football League
(NFL) to adopt the "Rooney Rule," the requirement that NFL teams interview at least one minority
candidate for any head-coaching vacancy.
A binding NFL-MLS link will always exist. The Hunt family and Kraft family were early MLS
pioneers, of course. Later, Paul Allen (Seattle Seahawks and Sounders) showed everyone how an
NFL-MLS partnership should look. Those two, to borrow from Forest Gump, go together like peas and
carrots.
So I'm a little perplexed about why one element that makes NFL so special has completely escaped
MLS ownership, which, again, are one in the same to a certain measure:
Earning a playoff spot in the National Football League is a special thing.
Manchester United has been ranked as the most valuable sporting team in the world, according to
the findings of a new report.
Analysis from advisory firm Brand Finance shows that United's brand value has more than doubled
since the Glazers bought the club.
According to the report, published in The Times, United's brand value has risen from £197
million in 2005 to £412 million.
Jason Davis wrote an article about the lack of ethnic diversity among management in the English
Premier League, and how it related to 'the Rooney Rule' in the National Football League (NFL) here
in the US.
England's Premier League finds itself working through a difficult equation when it comes to
race and coaching at the professional level.

As one of those interminable people constantly worried about the popularity of soccer in the United
States, I should be thrilled that Fox is giving the sport a run on their flagship over-the-air
behemoth of a network starting this Sunday. Manchester United and Chelsea will be shown, on tape
delay, right smack in the middle of the usual National Football League window.

This weekend marked the grand opening of Seattle Sounders' first team store in downtown Seattle.
Simply known as "The Pro Shop," the store will feature products from both the Sounders and the
Seahawks of the National Football League. In what appears to be a rare partnership among teams of
different sports, the two appear have found the perfect formula for a successful retail store.
Punjab-based JCT, the first champions of India's National Football League in 1996, will follow
Mahindra United, winners of the League in 2006, in disbanding their senior club to focus on youth
development. "Now, there is not a single I-League club in North India, after Indian Arrows,
formerly based in Delhi, decided to shift base to Kolkata," noted Deepak Vikraman in Deccan Herald.

In light of the recent news that Philadelphia's own, PPL Park, will be hosting Villanova
Football beginning in the Fall of 2011, Brotherly Game takes a look at the other soccer-specific
stadiums throughout Major League Soccer and the non-soccer events to which they have been
hosts.

AmericanizeSoccer.com can confirm the National Football League (NFL) received a proposal in 2007 to
start a pro Soccer league to compete against Major League Soccer (MLS) for the months of March
through August/September.

Once again, we are fortunate to have a guest post from Dave Laidig. Dave is a contracts
attorney for a large corporation who occasionally submits posts about soccer. He resides in
Minnesota, which is not an MLS market. And he may be a little bitter about that. Thanks to Dave
for some great thoughts and insight.

Tanjong Pagar are a club with a proud history. They were runners up in four of the first five years
of the SLeague and the one year they missed out on second place they won the Singapore Cup.
The 1980s were their time though, before the advent of the SLeague. They won the National Football
League twice, the old domestic competition at a time Singapore still competed in the Malaysia Cup,
and won the President's Cup on four occasions.
Arsenal's ownership structure, unlike that of most of our competitor clubs, has been held by a
plurality of shareholders, making management by the board of directors a much more democratic
process. According to many sources, tomorrow that may all be about to change.
Everyone is reporting that "Silent Stan" Kroenke is set to launch a takeover bid.
By J Hutcherson - WASHINGTON, DC (Mar 30, 2011) US Soccer Players -- Once again, Major League
Soccer has inserted itself in the conversation for what counts as a big league sport in North
America. It's a short list, headed by the National Football League in terms of popularity, Major
League Baseball in terms of history, and the arena sports basketball and hockey.
The National Football League is currently in meltdown as the owners have locked out the players,
the players are going to take these owners to court and the season starting on time / actually
happening is in jeopardy. This is a situation where billionaires are having an argument with
millionaires over how to distribute billions of dollars amongst them.

Twenty-five year old Khairul Anwar, born with cerebral palsy, has waited a lifetime to take part in
a football league, representing his country.
Yesterday, news broke that superstar National Football League wide receiver Chad Ochocinco
accepted an invitation to a 4-day tryout with Sporting Kansas City. Even though Ochocinco is a
member of the Cincinnati Bengals, I still thought it would be fun as an avid football and soccer
fan to see what Philadelphia Eagles would perform well on a soccer team.
It was morning in America. All of Orwell's predictions had come true, but the Kinks were having one
of their occasional comebacks, so that was all right. It was beginning to look as if people were
willing to pay for television programming. Los Angeles had two National Football League teams
(depending on whether you feel Anaheim counts).
If soccer had a Super Bowl, who would win it? Since this year's Super Bowl - the final for the U.S.
National Football League (NFL) championship - is happening on Sunday between the Green Bay Packers
and the Pittsburgh Steelers, I thought it'd be fun to treat soccer as a version of American
football - only for a laugh, of course, lest you think I'm trying to blaspheme the best game in the
world.

What is the significance of this date?
That's when training camps for the 2011-12 NFL season would open. For the first time since 1987
however, the National Football League may experience a work stoppage due to the expiration of their
Collective Bargaining Agreement with the NFL Players Association.
As a self professed comic book nerd I can appreciate the concept of alternate realities and
multiple universes. That being said I'm generally not a big fan of sports fiction so this soccer
book is a bit of a departure from the other efforts reviewed here. Michael Maddox's "The Ten Shirt"
sort of made me feel like I was reading one of the possible alternate reality stories that I
encounter after picking up the new weekly stash of reading material on Wednesday afternoons at the
local geek store.
Let's create a seductive & self-serving personal narrative, shall we? First, let's point to two
interesting trends across the Atlantic. Many Americans are turning their gaze to the English
Premiership. In part, soccer, the sport itself, draws a crowd with dynamic play. However, another
factor is unhappiness with the status quo's alternative sports.
In Thursday's Soccer Daily, we discuss what the North American pro sports really have to teach
England's Premier League from a sports business perspective. By J Hutcherson - WASHINGTON, DC (Jan
20, 2011) US Soccer Players -- Too much of the time, cross sports business comparisons end up
downplaying the peculiarities and day-to-day realities between codes.
If you're a subscriber or a regular reader of the Kansas City Star you may have noticed a small,
column-sized advertisement in the sports section of Sunday's paper. It was wishing the local
National Football League's Chiefs good luck in their afternoon match up against the Baltimore
Ravens in the first-round of the playoffs.

Earlier this year, for one of my Library and Information Management classes that revolved around
website design, labeling, and structure, I was tasked with comparing two sites that served the same
function.
Being the soccer Fanatico that I am, I went to town writing a nice 20 page paper on the

ALGIERS, Algeria – The national soccer league in Algeria has canceled matches scheduled for
