Morning all, hopefully you were lucky in the Cup. FP wasn't - he drew Daffodil in the sweepstakes,
which turned to be about as effective as a daffodil.
While the Glory boys will be training pretty hard for the remainder of the week, there aren't any
scheduled media pressers until Thursday, so either FP will scrape the bottom of the barrel or he'll
just make up stuff.

Round 5 Review
Melbourne Victory vs Newcastle Jets 1-1
Etihad Stadium 15,168
Despite being able to sustain a high crowd, Melbourne weren't able to replicate that luck on the
pitch, following another disappointing result, the defending champions sit 7th on the A-League
ladder.

Perth Glory 2 (Jelic 4, 54)
Melbourne Victory 1 (Thompson 9)
Crowd: 8056
SERBIAN striker Branko Jelic scored two opportunist goals, as Perth Glory defeated Melbourne
Victory 2-1 at ME Bank Stadium tonight.
Jelic, formerly with German Bundlesiga side Energie Cottbus, scored the game's opener in the 4th
minute after Naum Sekulovski's cross into the box was headed to Mile Sterjovski, whose shot
squeezed through Victory keeper Glen Moss.

Oldham Athletic has today announced plans for a new 12,000 seater stadium after
shelving plans to redevelop Boundary Park.

Today's contribution comes from the lower confines of the Norwegian second division, and a recent
battle between those giants of European football, Ham-Kam and Moss.
After an hour of the game gone, and no goals on the board, a dangerous cross was floated in and
Lars Ovrebo stuck out a leg and beautifully flicked it beyond his own goalkeeper and into the net.

In which Moss FK midfielder Lars Øvrebø goes straight to the top of any list marked 'Own goals
you wish you'd scored at the other end.' I also enjoyed the woefully contrived build-up play of
HamKam's No.22, Roman Kienast....

Iraq and New Zealand played out a lively 0-0 draw as both teams said farewell to the Confederations
Cup on Saturday having failed to score a goal between them in any of their three Group A games.
Iraq, needing a win to have any chance of overhauling South Africa for the runners-up spot to reach
the semi-finals behind group winners Spain, were more adventurous than in their opening games but
rarely looked like scoring until a late flourish.

Round 2 matches have brought just as much excitement as Round 1 had. Though the focus after Round 1
had been on the use of Vuvuzela horn at the stadiums, the Round 2 matches were no less
exhilirating. So, let's look at the numbers after Round 2.
We saw the Italians upset by some excellent Egyptian defence and goalkeeping.

South Africa 2 New Zealand 0
Rustenburg
The home fans finally got a taste of glory in Bafana Bafana's second game of the 2009
Confederations Cup as New Zealand were defeated 2-0.
Once again, New Zealand were disappointingly poor just as they were against Spain and if it's any
consolation they did at least defend a little better.

The match report as seen from a South African football fan perspective...
Tonight Bafana Bafana made me proud to be a South African Soccer supporter. After all the grief we
(South African soccer fans) have to put up with, it was great to see such a positive performance
from the National Team.

Benard Parker uses his anatomy for the good and the bad. What is it with him?
Against Iraq, Bernard Parker was pilloried by fans and the media for unwittingly getting his
foot in the way of Kadisho Dikgacoi's header which prevented a Bafana Bafana win.
In today's match against New Zealand he scored both goals, the second due to a huge slice of
luck as Tsipo Masilela's cross shot hit his right knee and deflected into goal.

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. The clock was ticking this evening as South Africa's Confederations Cup
bid slowly dragged itself to life this evening, with a performance that added little to the widely
held perception that they are likely to be the worst host nation in the history of the World Cup
when the show rolls into town.

Norwegian teams are off on the road to Ullevål after a first round that was like a footballing
equivalent of a Harry Potter-convention: Plenty of belief, but no actual magic to be found.Â
The Norwegian cup is a terrifically democratic competition: No favors are given to the big names
from the Tippeliga as they start on square one along with the rest of the pack.

Round 4 of the Adeccoliga was completed on Tuesday night, and generally speaking there was no
place like home..
HamKam have had an unexpectedly tricky start to their quest for promotion, but
Tromsdalen didn't prove much of an obstacle as Arne Erlandsen's men defeated the
Northerners 3-0.

Step right this way ladies and gentlemen, at least if you need further proof that the Adeccoliga
is a weird and wildly unpredictable competition..Â
Yes, because in the result of the round, if not the season, everyone's favorite Northern minnows
Alta shrugged off their 7-0 televised tonking at the hands of HamKam last week and
went away to much-fancied Moss and gave them, to quote the man, "one hell of a
beating" (the utter lack of famous people hailing from Moss makes it impossible to copy the rest of
Lillelien's legendary rant) .
