U.S. Soccer released the roster of players called up by Jurgen Klinsmann and there are some interesting choices. Both Landon Donovan and Kyle Beckerman are on the roster and are apparently expected to be in camp regardless of whether or not their team makes it to MLS Cup. Reportedly Klinsmann will be releasing that player after the match against France in order to let them return to the United States and prepare.

The Rio Tinto Fortress fell on Saturday. Real Salt Lake have had a tumultuous few months and it culminated in multiple factors over the weekend.
Their game against the Seattle Sounders was played in less than ideal conditions, with rain hammering players and the field being waterlogged. Nick Rimando and Kasey Keller were both called upon to keep their teams from going down in the first half.

It has been a rough season thus far to be on the MLS Dsciplinary Committee. Thus far in the league we've had several brutal tackles that resulted in snapped bones. However, this latest instance brings up a frustrating look at the difficulties of sending a message to the league.

The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee today suspended Chivas USA midfielder Marcos Mondaini for his tackle on Real Salt Lake midfielder Javier Morales in the 38th minute of the game on May 7.

Mondaini received a red card for the challenge, which resulted in Morales suffering two broken bones and torn ligaments in his left ankle.

Two weeks ago I wrote this in reference to Mullan's 10 game suspension:

If MLS cracks down going forward then I'll have no problem with the 10 games. Given the league's track record so far this season and their inconsistency over the history of the league I have no expectation that they will.

Real Salt Lake's MLS Cup title hopes took a bit of a hit after Javier Morales suffered a severe ankle injury, but there's hope that Morales could be back in time for the club's postseason push.

RSL's Argentine playmaker underwent successful ankle surgery and could return to action in October, said Dr.

Chivas USA's Marcos Mondaini slid into Morales from behind and took out the RSL star. Mondaini broke Morales' ankle and the injury required surgery and will knock him out of action for at least four months, possibly the rest of the season.

The case of Marcos Mondaini sidelining Javier Morales with a vicious tackle has prompted comparisons to the Brian Mullan-Steve Zakuani incident, and though the circumstances are different there are important issues to be weighed.

With plenty of games and most of them ending in a draw, the Power Rankings didn't see a whole lotta movement. As expected though Real Salt Lake returned to the top of the mountain but boy did their 1-0 win over Chivas USA come at a price. The loss of Javier Morales will be very tough to overcome, hopefully he pulls through fine and recovers quickly.
