Montreal Impact Scouting Report: Fratricide

Tomorrow's match against the Impact marks the beginning of the second dense stretch of games the Sounders will have to play this season. If Seattle manages to make the US Open Cup semifinal by beating the San Jose Earthquakes, they won't have a full week between games until after the July 18 friendly with Chelsea - a run of 10 matches in one month.

Seattle Sounders at Montreal Impact | Three Questions

Saturday's match in Quebec will be the opener of Stade Saputo's MLS era. The Montreal Impact are in many ways similar to the Sounders, not just because of the players, but the number of connections they maintained to their USL & A-League past. They haven't been awful this year. The 3-7-3 record this year isn't in the horrid levels that most expansion teams experience.

Big Clubs Are Interested In Osvaldo Alonso: A Test In Sounders Fans' Faith

Sounder at Heart at related • 0 views

Osvaldo Alonso recently suggested some Premiership teams might be interested in acquiring his services. Unsurprisingly, being as he is a professional soccer player, he is open to this possibility. None of this should really come as news.

The question is: How much concern should this cause us as Seattle Sounders fans, who clearly want our team to have as many highly talented players as is possible?

The Sounders have lost more players this season than any previous MLS off-season. That's without the official losses of Pat Noonan and Nate Jaqua who could still be drafted in Stage Two of the Re-Entry Draft on Monday. But there have been three retirements, the odd departure of Miguel Montano with basically no compensation, the expansion draft loss of James Riley and the trade of Tyson Wahl for allocation money have Seattle with plenty of openings.

"The negotiations with Miguel Montano are going well and we are very confident he comes back."

Nick De Santis, Montreal Impact Sporting Director. The story is in French, but there are these fancy translating tools that should give you the gist of the story. In any case, this is the most concrete thing we've heard about Montano yet.

As the Montral Impact transition from not very good NASL side to expansion MLS team they have invited 25 players to trial and attempt to be on their inaugural roster. Miguel Montano, who the Seattle Sounders had loaned to the Impact, will be staying with them for their trial camp. There are a few other players familar to those that follow the Sounders.

The Seattle Sounders officially announced that Miguel Montano has been loaned to the Montreal Impact for the remainder of the 2011 season. The 20-year-old was in Seattle on a loan from Argentinian side Quilmes.

Montano has shown glimpses of quality at various points during his Sounders career, but has also been prone to mental errors that have helped keep him off the field.

You asked, you shall receive. If you feel like joining the action by following along through Twitter, please feel free to do so here. Among the topics that are probably worth some discussion is the surprise inclusion of one Danny Berrera on the bench. Apparently, he's a UC Santa Barbara product who is considering a move to the pro game and would have to go through the waiver draft.

Sounders Reserves a win away from clinching division

The Rave Green reserves have methodically won their first seven matches (of ten total) and have almost mathematically reached the West Division title. They have won four of those seven in the friendly confines at Starfire, but not always emphatically. In fact, the Sounders have only twice (in seven) managed to defeat another reserve team by more than a single goal.

The Sounders are traveling north of the border this weekend to take on Toronto FC. I'm not going to lie. I expect a big win on Saturday. Toronto, even at home, is one of the easiest match-ups in the league and an opportunity to claw back some points the Sounders left on the table last weekend when the Vancouver Whitecaps came to town.

Coming off a huge win and today being Memorial Day, you can be excused if you didn't realize the Seattle Sounders were playing the Portland Timbers. Of course, it's only the reserves, but if you've got nothing better to do, you can listen to the game here.

Looks like a few familiar names are in the game for the Sounders, including Fredy Montero.

Expect Sounders To Use Yet Another Lineup Vs. FC Dallas

There's been a bit of a lively debate around these parts recently regarding Sigi Schmid's lineup choices. Mainly, people seem to want to see more of the Seattle Sounders' young guys and less of, well, Roger Levesque, I guess. Overall, there seems to be a sense that Schmid has been overly rigid, and relied too heavily upon the the same old cast of characters.

I'm a bit late to the proceedings, but I'm here now. We're 0-0 in the 24th minute. The Sounders have Michael Tetteh playing left mid, Pat Noonan at the target forward spot, Taylor Graham and Jeff Parke at center back, and the rest of the normal characters.

I'll probably only update for big moments and probably some random observations.

2011 MLS SuperDraft first-round pick Justin Meram opened his Columbus Crew account, scoring a late goal to lift the Crew to a 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution in Reserve League action on Monday.

Meram pounced on a rebound inside the box off a Crew free kick and fired into a vacated net in the 88th minute to provide the offense and help the Columbus reserves improve their mark to 2-1-0.

Seattle Sounders Trying To Move On From Steve Zakuani's Injury

There was simply no denying that Seattle Sounders practice was a little different from normal on Monday. The most obvious difference was the absence of Steve Zakuani, always one of the more vocal players on the training pitch. But James Riley, the man who reporters always seem to go to when they are trying assess the mood of the team, admitted that practice was different in more subtle ways too.

Sounders Injury Update: Steve Zakuani, Brad Evans Train, Could Potentially Play

Steve Zakuani and Brad Evans both trained with the team today, and Seattle Sounders coach Sigi Schmid seemed to indicate that both could potentially be ready to play on Tuesday. Of the two, Evans seems to be more likely to be fully fit.

"Obviously they did some work today so now the thing is how they feel tomorrow," Schmid said after practice on Saturday.

Clarifying Miguel Montano's Contract Situation

Today we learned that the Seattle Sounders have chosen not to purchase Miguel Montano's contract from Argentinian side Quilmes. Although it has been pointed out that he is still essentially on trial with the Sounders and could still make the roster, I thought it would be worthwhile to get some some more clarification.

Sounders Reserves Top Earthquakes Reserves on Tetteh Goal

Sounders win! Sounders win! Sure, it was in the Reserve League, but there are standings kept so it counts. Most notable of course will be the Michael Tetteh goal late, at least to those browsing the story, but more important to the future for real League play is who plays, and where.

Would anyone accept a season with a Heritage Cup and Reserve League title?

Without Montero Who Plays at Forward?

Life without Fredy Montero will start this weekend, hopefully only this weekend due to his injury and recovery. Tomorrow the lineup card will be posted, and you'll see who we expect Sounders coach Sigi Schmid to start as his two forwards, but today let's just look at what could happen. First let's look within Sigi's Arrow, second at changes that could be inspired by San Jose Earthquakes stadium and then by just outright let's do something different.

Yesterday we saw the release of the players who will be involved in the 2012 MLS Combine. It was quite the impressive list of 52 players and one that we here at Stumptown Footy will be pouring over as we look for potential candidates for the Timbers #8 pick in the 2012 SuperDraft.

One thing to note is that this is not the full list of players that will be involved in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft.

Sorry for the sudden dearth of news and links yesterday. I'm not sure if everybody took the day off or what, but there was a serious dearth of anything at all relating to the Portland Timbers and very few articles regarding other MLS teams. All in all it was just kind of weird. Today has been a little better, especially since I was able to scrap together two days worth of links, but it's still a little light considering.

Polling for the site 'awards' (no physical award actually given) for Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year weren't really close. It looks like Moment of the Year will see a run-off just like in 2010. Moving into the Young Player of Year the contest may be more about hope than performance. In the past there were a handful of players with large amounts of playing time that would qualify for a U-23 roster.
