After seven days of play in the 2011 Women's World Cup there is one obvious trend: Set pieces
and headers result in goals. Including Saturday's four goals, 13 of the tournament total of 29
goals have resulted from a dead ball or a header. That statistic is an astounding 45%.
Anyone well informed in the game of soccer knows that set pieces are dangerous.
British Eurosport's ubiquitous football commentator Tim Caple was doing his level best not to
say there were "no easy games in international football these days." Some clichés are oft-repeated
because of the element of truth therein, but there were certainly no "easy games" in the first
round of matches at this year's Women's World Cup in Germany.
England and Mexico opened up their 2011 Women's World Cup Group stage with a 1-1 draw, with
Monica Ocampo scoring a fantastic long range effort worthy of any World Cup men's
or otherwise.

England Women got their World Cup campaign underway with a slightly disappointing 1-1 draw
against Mexico in Wolfsburg yesterday afternoon going ahead through Fara Williams' looping
21st-minute header before being pegged back just 13 minutes on down the line thanks to a bit of a
special effort from Monica Ocampo.
If you haven't seen Monica Ocampo's goal for Mexico in last night's Women's World Cup match yet,
you're in for a treat!! Has a touch of Zizou and reminds you a little of
Ronaldinho in his prime. Their match against England ended in a 1-1 draw, of
course, but there's still a lot left to play for.
Grant Wahl mentioned in the Gold Cup final that the El Tri male players no longer salute across
their chest while the anthem plays. Not so the women - they still do it.
England have their superstar, Kelly Smith, but what makes them good is now it's not just the Kelly
show, ala Jordan and the Jordanaires.
