Ready for a quick peek under the covers at the weekend-that-was? Let's try this again with a theme;
today's theme being "winning" in all its forms and permutations. Winning Ugly DC United finally put
a marker in the win column with a 1-0 win...

I trust a fun weekend was had by all as we witnessed MLS's First Kick 2009, Manchester United's
continued unravelling, and the usual suspects torching La Liga in goalfests. How about a little
mood music? Bodies + Problems = Submission You know...div class="feedflare" a

take the Grand Tour, shall we?Over ThereYes, yes, Liverpool's failure to get maximum points at home
to struggling Manchester City means that the race for the Premier League crown is all but secure in
Sir Alex's sack o' trophies yet again (It's still freakin' February, fer chrissakes!

Let's hit the rewind button and see what caught my eye this weekend from around the world of futbol
. . . Done and Dusted? Even though Liverpool managed to ride the late, late Torres-show to victory
yet again, I think you saw this weekend why the race for the Prem is dead. Man United went away to

Considering the warnings the meteorological high priests were spreading, the "big storm"
turned out to be a couple inches of snow. Disappointing, like much of this weekend. Why
disappointing? Glad you asked . . . Camp Curse Continues! Last week, I talked about the disturbing

Magic of the Cup? Fun and games, as always, in the third round of the FA Cup. I caught most of
Hull-Newcastle, which was one of those end-to-end games that somehow end scoreless, and
Preston-Liverpool, where Preston had a nice mix of the physical and the technical, but not quite
enough to overcome the Reds, despite Robbie Keane's terribly wasteful finishing.

At long last, I'm back from my holiday travels. Sadly, I seem to have picked up the plague (or a
near approximation) somewhere along the way, so my posting over the next few days will be of a
necessarily more limited nature. Regardless, I managed to catch some footie this weekend, where all
of the "Yank" headlines were dominated by one man .

Time for our weekly look back at the weekend that was . . . Toon Revival? Newcastle grab a late
winner through the oft-injured Duff after a magical bit of interplay between the Irishman and his
Australian compatriot, Mark Viduka. Dig it up on the YouTubes if the Prem Police haven't
confiscated all the evidence.

Seeing as how we're in the offseason here at FBF, it's about time we brought in some new blood on
trial. First up is the Monday Back-Pass, wherein I take a look back at the weekend's soccer events
and viewing, highlighting what caught my attention. Ready? Away we go . . . Barca-Real The big
enchilada of the weekend without a doubt.
